morning. we were the first report last week about a woman camping gear and forced to sleep outside of dissent because -- outside of the tent because of a rat infestation. mayor vincent gray has called on the national park service to take action and removed occupy dc protesters from mcpherson square citing health issues and rats. he suggested relocating those protesters to freedom plaza. both of them are on park service land. >> we did not bring the rats with us. >> vincent gray claims that the people are risking hypothermia. >> it's almost like they want the racts here. >> some say the park service is on the making excuses. the city is trying its best to protect the health welfare, and safety of people in and around. the national park service has so far been more interested in making with a brutal storm. the first major winter storm roared in with a vengeance. cold air and blowing snow are making conditions miserable across the midwest. from colorado to kentucky the roads are a mess. in greenfield, wisconsin snowfall brought the evening commute to a standstill. gusty wind causing snow drifts. the weather has been blamed for two deaths in iowa. chicago is under a winter storm warning, expecting a wind chill near zeroth and up to 6 inches of snow. >> we will shovel and opened goes away by monday. >> hundreds of flights were canceled. the weather over the past few months has been unseasonably warm. in chicago, the city usually gets 14 inches of snow by this time of year. this winter only 1.7 inches. arctic air has been kept far north for weeks by the jet stream but it has latest developments with the occupy dc camp at mcpherson square. mayor vincent gray has asked the park police to relocate the protesters to freedom plaza. john gonzalez has more from northwest. >> the protesters have been here since october. it appears th rodent problem has intensified. mayor gray is asking on the park service get them out of mcpherson square because of the rat problem suggesting they relocate to freedom plaza and perhaps we're other protesters have been camping out since the occupy dc movement started several months ago. many of the protesters tell us there are rats but that they have always been here and they don't believe that is the reason the mayor wants them gone. the park service spokesperson says that the protesters do have a right to free speech and they must be protected. they do have a permit the started in october. they still have some time left here. it is interesting to see what will happen next week when the protests may get bigger. the occupy congress protest will be moving in. john gonzalez reporting. >> there will be a wreath laying ceremony to mark 30 years since one of the worst airplane crashes in the region. 78 people died when air florida flight 90 crashed minutes after taking off from what is now reagan national airport during a snowstorm. the plane hit the 14th street bridge before plunging into the potomac. four people died on the
