[gunfire] an afghan official says that the attackers were heavily armed. they were able to bridge to a security check points before opening fire on the hotel. afghan police arrest to the scene and firefights broke outlasting almost five hours. officials say the attackers are dead this morning. between 60 and 70 guests were staying at the hotel at the time of the attack. this morning, more than a dozen have been killed or wounded. the hotel is popular among westerners and afghan political leaders. during the attack, they were at the hotel and have a conference on the transition of power from courtney robinson is live at the cemetery with details. >> the fibbi and the army's criminal investigation command had been investigating armand jean national cemetery for six months. this morning according to "the washington post", we understand that a grand jury has subpoenaed both witnesses and records from arlington national cemetery looking into food to about burial issues and if there was any contract fraud or falsification of records. a year ago the army inspector general did finished an investigation that revealed hundreds of graves of accounted for, that included 100 graves said to be occupied that were then found empty. that same investigation revealed mismanagement by the cemetery higher ups. the cemetery superintendent and deputy superintendent left the cemetery. the cemetery uses paper records. any attempt to go to computer records, there were contracts that were out to the tune of $8 million. that is being investigated as well. we know that congress and -- has asked that cemetery workers look to account for all of the graves that are here at arlington national cemetery. as to whether any criminal charges will be filed, it's not known at this time. looking now at the hallowed barrel grounds is now ground zero for an fbi investigation. >> we're talking about arlington national cemetery. there's a scandal over bodies buried in the wrong graves. federal authorities are looking into allegations of fraud. courtney robinson is live at the cemetery this morning with details. >> this is another black mark for arlington national cemetery. the fbi and the army's criminal investigation command have been investigating. we now understand that witnesses have been subpoenaed looking into who knew about the real issues or falsification of records. you may recall that one year ago, the inspector general released a final report of the investigation showing there were more than 100 graves that were occupied or emptied. there were a number of other issues involved in that including gravestones being used in a creek. according to sources officials believe some $8 million was wasted as the cemetery tried to transition from paper records into a computer system. there are a number of things this investigation is looking into. no word on any criminal charges yet. cemetery workers are looking into accounting for the 330,000 graves at arlington national the blaze to rest. it has caused the evacuation of the town of los alamos, about 11,000 people. the danger is not over. now the fear is plutonium- tainted dust. a tiny airborne particle of plutonium
