two people to the hospital. courtney robinson is live on the scene with late-breaking details, joining us on the phone. >> i can tell you right now there are two people, a man and a woman in a hospital in critical condition. they were the only two people inside at the time of this explosion. they were in bed during the explosion. according to montgomery county fire and in masems chief it caused damage to neighboring houses. this was on the 11,000 block of ashley drive in kensington. there's 3 35 feet up in the trees. this happened just after 3:00 in the morning shaking neighbors awake. the neighbors described what they saw. >> it was a massive explosion. the house shook. we thought it was a tree at first because we have trees falling on houses. that was expected. after we looked outside and saw houses and your people yelling and running and we saw fire. >> shocking images we are seeing in kensington at this hour. there's still no word on the cause. montgomery county a chilly outside compared with yesterday. >> the cold front moved through earlier this morning and we're feeling the difference in temperatures. widespread rain across the region right now. it's one of those mornings where i keep the radar screen on the wider view because it's raining pretty much everywhere across the area. that's true about lunchtime and then you will notice the rain tapering off. showers are moving from the southwest to northeast slowly. a few gaps in the showers. that's intermittent especially in parts of the metro area. anticipate showers off and on throughout the morning. a sense of an inch already in some areas. a little lower in calverhigher accumulations in calvert county. we will get about a half-inch in most spots and about to an inch in some other spots. the cold front is pushing north. the back edge along the west virginia and virginia border will slowly creep eastward today. by 2:00 p.m. it will be over the eastern shore and completely out of our area. high pressure off to our west will move east and give us sunshine tomorrow. we will get sunshine throughout the day tomorrow. a good soaking for the lawn and garden today. then sometime tomorrow. breezy outside today and tomorrow. you'll notice the gusty wind. morning rain today. we are in the 40's in some spots. near 50 in others. temperatures will rise to about 60 degrees with a montgomery county. an overnight explosion and fire destroyed a house in rockville. two people were hurt in the blast. courtney robinson is like the scene with the latest details and she's joining us on the phone. what have you learned about this news? >> i am looking at this and the damage is absolutely breathtaking. there are the two people, a man and woman in a hospital in critical condition. they were taken to a local burn units. beirut were the only people inside atomic explosion. -- they were the only people inside at the time of the explosion. fire crews found them in bed. i am watching investigators right now sorting through this degree. this caused significant damage to neighboring houses. the explosion was fired by a large fireball, according to neighbors. they were concerned it would spread to their houses as well. there is debris 50 yards away from where this house once stood upon the 11000 block of ashley drive in rockville. parts of date home are 50 feet away -- parts of the home are 50 feet away. it shook neighbors a way around 3:00 a.m. >> there was a massive explosion. the house shook. we thought it was a tree at first. we have problems with trees falling on the houses. so that was expected. after we looked outside, we saw the houses and some people yelling and running. we saw fire. >> ask for the cause of this explosion, there is still no complex relationship between the u.s. and pakistan and how this could play out with funding and especially at a time when budgets are tough locally and people don't want to spend as much on foreign embellished on some of the facts perhaps. there was a female that was one of his wives that he used as a human shield. there are questions on whether he was armed or not. it does not matter what the
