officials are still deciding whether releasing photos of his body would provoke more anti-american sentiment. >> they're also concerned about growing outrage in pakistan. >> on top of that, we learned that former president bush will not join president obama tomorrow here in new york at ground zero. the white house is also revising and correcting details about what actually happened inside bin laden's compound. >> emily schmidt begins our coverage. good morning, emily. >> reporter: good morning. the cia director said obama made, quote, a very gutsy decision to send the navy s.e.a.l.s in, without knowing he was there. when the navy s.e.a.l.s stormed the compound, intelligence says it was 60% to 80% sure that it was the right place. >> the reality was, that we could have gone in there and not found bin laden at all. >> reporter: so, those in the white house situation room watched. then, waited about 20 minutes while the s.e.a.l.s were inside and out of view. the vice president says it was breathtaking. >> it was a staggering undertaking. and there was no one else, i believe, other than a group of american warriors who could do it. >> reporter: the white house now says osama bin laden did not have a weapon. but says his wife rushed a u.s. team member. she was shot in the leg and survived. the administration is deciding whether to release photos of bin laden's body. >> it's fair to say it's a gruesome photograph. >> reporter: the debate is whether the release is inflammatory or convincing. >> it has to be released to make sure we get rid of any conspiracy theorists that we didn't take care of bin laden. >> reporter: the dvds and computers are back in washington. >> the first thing they're looking for is attack plans. we know in the past, bin laden went over attack plans, including the 9/11 plan. >> reporter: the associated press is reporting that the navy s.e.a.l.s who killed bin laden are back in washington for debriefing. their success so public. yet, they're identities remain private. >> isn't that interesting? and also, emily, president obama heads to ground zero tomorrow to meet with family members of the 9/11 victims. why did president bush turn down an invitation to join him? >> reporter: the indication we got, was that the former president is choosing to stay out of the spotlight in his post-presidency. what's going to be interesting today is if the white house decides to release the photographs of bin laden's body before president obama goes to ground zero, where so many others were killed. >> emily schmidt, live in washington. thanks a lot, emily. and the events are giving president obama a boost in his approval rates. a "washington post"/pew poll taken after the killing of osama bin laden, puts president obama's approval rating up to 56%. 69% approve of the way he's handling terrorism. that's the highest rating he's had since taking office. there's grewing outrage against pakistan. was our ally involved in harboring osama bin laden. >> leon panetta said, quote, either they're involved or incompetent. jim sciutto is in the capital. and joins us by phone. what is the government saying now? >> reporter: well, the headlines today illustrate the real anger from pakistani officials. one of them saying, pakistan, upset about being kept in the dark. another saying, unauthorized raid must not serve as precedent. and you hear that in the streets, as well. we were speaking to pakistanis this morning. they, like their government, view this has a violation. but many say it was a successful raid. and it was right to catch and kill osama bin laden. but they're proud of the military here. and they wonder why the u.s. didn't ask for its help. >> jim, even though we've been having our own reactions to hearing this news, we've now been seeing people crying in public over the death of bin laden. also, anti-american protests. can we expect those to grow? corpse. >> lots of folks want to see it. on top of that, former president george w. bush has declined an invitation to attend an observance at new york's ground zero. the raid on bin laden's compound produced a treasure trove of information. we're told that u.s. officials may begin to get a readout on some of that as soon as today. >> our nick schifrin takes a look at what else was found inside. >> reporter: when you take a very close look at the video, it offers tantalizing hints about how the world's most-wanted man lived. look at this medicine shelf. most likely in bin laden's own room. we froze it and enhanced it. that's petroleum jelly on the left. eye drops right next to it. this one, an antiseptic cream for cuts. it is only a quick glimpse of one part of the house. but there appeared to be no serious medicines, despite years of rumors of bin laden's poor health. outside the house, we found evidence of what the bin ladens ate. two cans of imported olive oil. two cans of local sunflower oil. and in the pantry, it's hard to see but brightening the video reveals enough food to sustain a family for weeks, including dozens of eggs. bin laden never had to leave, always protected by 15-foot-high walls. outside those walls, the compound became a tourist attraction. hundreds of kids came out. some found remnants of the u.s. helicopter that was left behind and scuttled. with these fields to my left, you really get a sense of how imposing this boundary wall is, which is much higher than any of the walls around it. these people around this neighborhood have an anecdote, that whenever the children in this neighborhood were playing with balls and when one of the balls went over one of these walls, it was never returned. sometimes the kids were paid money and told to go away. but in the end, those walls here in the city failed to contain their secret, that the world's most wanted man was living inside. nick schifrin, abc news, abbottabad, pakistan. meanwhile, neighbors say the pakistanis who helped hide bin laden, were keeping the compound supplied with coke and pepsi. and reports that marijuana was being grown right outside bin laden's walls. police in a small, wisconsin town are being praised about their bravery after a dramatic shoot-out all caught on tape. watch as a suspect, calmly leaves his truck and opens fire on police. the police return fire. and the suspect gets back in his moving vehicle. he was later found dead. now, to another run-in with the law in gainesville, florida. a ten-foot alligator that wanderered into someone's yard didn't take kindly to the officers trying to capture it. the gator chomped down on the car and refused to let go, until they put the car in reverse. only one sports story to talk about this
