The child was left all day wednesday in a vehicle of a parking lot of an apartment complex annandale. What happened . Suzanne this is the community where the mother lived with the three children. Yesterday she asked a man who Police Describe as her boyfriend to take her three children ages ten, 15, two 10, 15, 2 to school and daycare. The two older children made it. The young girl, the baby girl did not. Authorities are telling us this is what happened yesterday. The toddler was left in the vehicle from 8 00 until 3 00 in the afternoon. At the time the temperature was rising and eventually got into the low 70s. It wasnt until the 31yearold went to pick up the childrens mother at her job at Pentagon City when he realized what had happened. He gets to arlington and getting out of the car. Looks in the backseat, realizes the child is there. Goes to attend to her and realizes she is unresponsive. Immediately calls 911. Suzanne this is a large apartmentc knocking on all of doors. We did not find the family. Nor did we find anyone who knew of the circumstances. Despite the fact that the baby girl had been sitting in a car in this exact parking lot where i am right now for the majority of the day yesterday. No charges filed but up to the Commonwealth Attorney once the investigation is over to determine whether or not the 31yearold man will be held criminally responsible. Arlington county police are trying to figure out if two cases of children being approached by strangers are related. The incident happened three weeks apart in different sections of the county. Alison the latest incident happened tuesday, a couple of days ago in the 5200 block of north 30th street near Yorktown High School if you are familiar with the area. Police say a ma pickup truck tried to lure three children into his vehicle. So the kids were outside. They were playing hide and seek when it happened. Police say they were between 8 and 11 yars old and they were able to run away and get help. Police just a vague description at this point of who approached an 11yearold boy and a 9yearold girl in south arlington. That was earlier this month. Those kids were out on a playground. The one behind the Arbor Heights apartment on 8th street south. In that case the children also describe the suspect as driving a dark colored older model pickup truck. The command post for the search is a big meadows camp ground about four miles from where we are standing now. 80 people part of the search crew today including two kit rescue teams and a helicopter crew. Since this search began, crews covered 15 square miles from the area we are now to the vehicle was discovered. She called in sick to work last wednesday and was reported missing friday after not showing up for a scheduled shift. Few answers in the search which is centered here in the park.
