J. And reena. Things are calming down. Police are starting to clear the streets after makeing a few arrests and using teargas to clear the crowds. Tensions again flaring in ferguson. Demonstrators setting a squad car on fire. Police quickly moving in. With the destruction of riots still smoldering, police are dealing with a second straight night of problems. The violence began after a grand jury decided not to indict officer Darren Wilson for killing unarmed teen Michael Brown back in august. For the first time, wilson is publicly sharing what he claims led to the shooting. Hes going to get this gun away from me. Something is going to happen and im going to be dead. I pulled a third time and it finally goes off. Reporter telling George Stephanopoulos that while he is sorry, he would not have done anything differently. The reason i have a clean conscience is because i know i did my job right. Reporter Michael Browns family outraged a grand jury decided not to indict wilson. Their attorney saying the case should have gone to trial. This process is broken. The process should be indicted. Reporter and last night there was a huge response from the National Guard. About 2200 troops out on the streets trying to keep the situation from escalating any more than it already did. It was not as bad as it was the night before. I can imagine. How is the Holiday Weekend and how is that impacting the unrest . Well, as far as the impact on the unrest, we really dont know. People are coming out and protesting. Well see what happens as we get closer to thanksgiving. Its having an impact on some of the big plans in the area. The st. Louis thanksgiving parade, something they do here every year, a big event people look forward to has been canceled, or postponed, until later this season. I had gone to open the door and get out of the car. As i was opening the door i said come here for a minute. Thats when he turned and said what the [ bleep ] are you going to do about it and slammed the door shut an me. Slammed it shut . Yes. I used my door to try to push him back. He just pushed the door shut and stares at me. As i look back, punches start flying. He threw the first punch . Yes. He threw the first one and hit me in the left side of the face. Some of the witnesses have said they saw you trying to pull him into the car. That would be against any training ever taught to Law Enforcement. Then what. I reached out to grab his forearm. I was going to try to move back and get out of the car to where i wasnt trapped. I felt the immense power he had. You tried to grab him but you feel that force . Yes. I see him coming back around with his left hand. Its in the shape like this. It comes through the window. A solid punch. Where is your gun at that point . I keep it on my right hip. I take it up and point it at him. I say get back or im going to shoot you. He grabbed it and set youre too much of a [ bleep ] to shoot me. I can feel his hand trying to come over mine and get inside the trigger guard and try and shoot me with my own gun. Thats when i pulled the trigger for the first time. What happened . It didnt go off. The gun was being jammed by his hand an top of the feirearm. I tried again. I thought this has to work or im going to be dead. Hes going to get this gun away from me and im going to be dead. I pulled a third time and it finally goes off. What happens . He gets even angrier. The aggression increases. He comes back in at me again. I wasnt looking at him. I was like rack it, expecting another hit and put my gun up and fired. Then i go to exit my car. When im getting out, i use my walkie and said, shots fired. Send more cars. I start chasing after Michael Brown. Why not stay in the car. Hes running away. Because hes not my job isnt to just sit and wait. I have to see where this guy goes. You start to follow him and then he stops . He does stop. He turned and faced me. His right hand immediately goes into his waist band and his left hand is a fist at his side and he starts charging me. Some of the eyewitnesses said at that moment he turned around, he turned around and put his hands up. That would be uncorrect, incorrect. No way . No way. So you say he starts to stutter step, starts to come toward you, and i gave myself another mental check. Can i shoot this guy . Legally, can i . And the question i answered myself was, i have to. If i dont, he will kill me if he gets to me. Even though hes 35, 40 feet away . Once hes coming that direction if he hasnt stopped yet, when is he going to stop . After hes coming at me and i decide to shoot, i fired a series of shots, and paused. What did you see . I noticed at least one of them hit him. I dont know where but saw his body flinch a little. After that, i paused and yelled, stop, get on the grond, giving him the opportunity to stop. And he ignored all the commands and just kept running. After he kepts running again, i shot another series shots. At least one of those hit him because i saw the flinch. Hes about 15 feet away. I start back pedaling. He gets to about 8 to 10 feet and starts leaning forward like hes going to tackle me. I fired the gun. Right in the top of his head. Is there anything you could have done differently that would have prevented that killing from taking place . No. Nothing . No. And you are absolutely convinced when you look through your heart and your mind that if Michael Brown were white, this would have gone don in exactly the same way . Yes. No question . No question. The interview that george did took place in a secret location. Hes a man who still probably worries about his own security. But what really struck me is at he is so young. It was the first time hed ever actually fired his service weapon. And that has been a part of the story as well. Do these officers get enough training to know how to not use deadly force . Is there anything he says absolutely not. He would have done it the exact same way. No way he could have prevented from killing Michael Brown. Is there something that could have been done . Maybe a more experienced officer would have handled it differently. Would he have shot his leg or arm . These guys are making split second decisions. Thats why the courts have given them leeway and theres a different thresh hold for Police Officers because they have to make these life and death decisions like that. This interview doesnt end there. Three pounds of Sweet Potatoes or call them yams if you want to. Then a couple of granny smith apples peeled, cored and also sliced. Your saurs is a quarter cup of maple syrup, couple tablespoons of butter, half a teaspoon of corn starch and good kentucky bourbon. I have some bacon. Im going to brown it up. Im going to take our Sweet Potatoes, our yams and put them into some boiling water. The idea here is to let them par cook for a few minutes. Im going to start by melting our butter. After the butter is melted, go ahead and add our maple syrup. This is where i need to dissolve my cornstarch. Works better when dissolving cornstarch. Dissolve it in the liquid. As soon as you put this in, it will thicken. I can smell the bourbon. Pour your sauce on top and give it a little bit of salt and pepper. Now its time to get this in the oven. Nice and golden. A big interview from George Stephanopoulos. The fallout from the ferguson decision continues. Protesters across the country demanding justice for Michael Brown. Hundreds of people clogged the streets. New york city here. Second straight night. They are angry over the grand jurys decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson. Took over busy roadways, including the fdr. They shut down the entrance to the lincoln tunnel. Crowds were smaller in los angeles on the first night but still managed to block several streets. The demonstrations were relatively peaceful, but police intervened when they moved on to a major freeway. Stopping traffic in both directions. A scary scene in minneapolis. A driver plowed into a crowd of protesters as they blocked an intersection. The car dragged several people before coming to a stop. One woman was taken to the hospital but she was not seriously injured. After a night of rioting and rage, protesters in ferguson were met with beefed up security. Police moved in with teargas and made several arrests. After monday nights violence that left a dozen buildings burned to the ground, the governor tripled the number of National Guard troops to more than 2,000. Darren wilson broke his silence. He spoke exclusively to abcs George Stephanopoulos. Wilson says he had no choice but to shoot brown. And you are absolutely convinced when you look through your heart and your mind that if Michael Brown were white, this would have gone down in exactly the same way . Yes. No question . No question. The brown family came out with a Statement Last night where they said, we are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequences of his actions. What do you think when you hear that . I think those are grieving parents who are mourning the loss of their son. I dont think theres anything i could say. But again, im sorry that their son lost his life. It wasnt the intention of that day. Its what occurred that day. And theres no nothing you can say thats going to make a parent feel better. It sounds like you dont think you were responsible. I did my job that day. Do you feel any remorse . Everyone feels remorse when a life is lost. Like i told you before, i never wanted to take anybodys life. Thats not the good part of the job. Thats the bad part of the job. So, yes, there is remorse. I guess the only final question i have is, whats the most important thing that people need to believe about Darren Wilson . I just did my job. I did what i was paid to do, and that was my job. I just did my job. Hes had time to reflect about what happened. In that time and reflection, he still he seems to have a clear conscience. He said he had no choice but to shoot Michael Brown. Wouldnt do anything differently. And there was no other option that day. A lot of buzz. People are saying could he have shot his arm or leg. People in Law Enforcement will say its extremely difficult when faced with a threat to try and hit someones arm or leg. Split second choice. If you dont put the threat down, hit the arm or the leg, it runs a risk to the people around you. In the split second decision were talking about here, he still says he gave a moment. He took a beat to think, do i legally have the right to shoot this guy . He actually says he gave a moment to have that thought. Thats incredible to think, but there was a lot happening in that moment. But the evidence is out. The interview is out. The stories are out. People will make their own decisions. Michael browns family devastated that officer wilson will not have to stand trial. We saw his mothers emotional reaction to the grand jury decision monday night. Now their attorneys are vowing to push for federal charges against wilson saying the grand jury process was rigged from the start to clear wilson. When i close my eyes and think about him, i smile. I wake up, im sad this process is broken. The process should be indicted. One brown family lawyer said the prosecutor presented some evidence to discredit the process, including testimony from witnesses who didnt see the shooting.
