The doctor in new york city testing positive for the deadly virus after returning from west africa. A 33yearold doctor treating ebola patients in guinea. One of the countries devastated by the disease. He is now in isolation at a manhattan hospital. His girlfriend quarantined. The doctor rode the subway, took a car service here in new york just the night before he fell ill. Abcs linsey davis has more on how this all unfolded. Reporter inside this ambulance rushing to Bellevue Hospital, 33yearold craig spencer. A Doctors Without Borders physician suffering from a fever and gastrointestinal symptoms. A confirmed case of ebola right in the heart of new york city. I know its a frightening situation, but the more facts you know, the less frightening this situation is. Reporter dr. Spencer had been in guinea, one of three hot zone countries. Last thursday he flew home connecting through brussels before arriving at jfk airport. Hed been monitoring his temperature and reported his fever. Police officers in masks, neighbors anxious. A local councilman trying to calm fears. Frankly, people in the neighborhood are scared, and some of them are panicked. I had one gentleman who wouldnt even shake my hand because he was scared. Reporter the Health Department says a team of disease detectives immediately began to actively trace all of the patients contacts to identify anyone who may be at potential risk. The patient is now in isolation.
