After testing positive for enterovirus, bryan and his family now waiting for test results to see if its evd 68, that particular strain linked to four deaths and spreading around the country. Of the 63 with the highest levels of stress, 16 eventually developed alzheimers. In the more laidback group, half that number, 8 women, developed the disease. They are just looking at the association between neuroticism and alzheimers. Its not causation. We need more studies to look at particular risk factors. This american was part of an nbc news crew working in liberia. Hes now being flown back to the u. S. Also this morning, new details from a dallas medical center. The liberian man with ebola initially told an emergency room nurse he had no contact with anyone who was ill when he was in liberia. Weve learned thats not the truth. United airlines notifying passengers on the flight with that ebola patient. They had to contact federal health officials. Abcs cecilia vega with the latest. Reporter nside this apartment in dallas, a family in quarantine. Relatives of the first person ever diagnosed with ebola in the United States ordered by law not to leave. And we know theyve tried. A Police Officer now posted outside. Food and supplies delivered. Even the walkways hosed down. Nobody is supposed to go inside the apartment. They are in their apartment. They cannot come out. Reporter disease detectives now in a race to answer one question how many people could one person have infected . Their investigation starts here with Thomas Eric Duncan in isolation at this dallas hospital. The cdc now tracking 100 people he may have come into contact with. First, the doctors and nurses who treated him. Then, the three paramedics who brought him in by ambulance. That web expanding to anyone duncan encountered, even briefly, including eight children. Anyone who visited that apartment. Those at highest risk, his relatives now quarantined inside. About a dozen people will have their temperatures monitored for 21 days. And if any one of them exhibits symptoms, the chain begins again. This time retracing all of their contacts. That web being closely watched inside this Emergency Operations center in dallas. This is an emergency message from the city of dallas. Reporter warnings going out by phone to more than 11,000 residents. While this may be concerning, there is no ongoing danger to your health. Reporter three children who came in contact with duncan sent home from school. A community on edge. Until it all the way dies down, i think every parent is going to be worried. Reporter especially here in this apartment. The sheet hes slept on while sick and contagious still inside in plastic bags. No one has come to collect them. Another disturbing piece of information liberian officials telling us that when Thomas Eric Duncan left that country, he filled out a form saying hed not been in contact with any ebola victims. The big thing to focus on if you have not come physically in contact with someone who has ebola, you are probably okay. The concern obviously in dallas is who was he around . That sort of concern. But people are theres no reason to hit the panic button. Most people across america will be okay. But this is obviously great concern in dallas. This is scary given what weve been seeing in other parts of the world. I say other parts of the world. One part in particular, in the western part of africa. But this is just, frankly, so new to us. This is scary. And the death rate if someone gets ebola. You cant help. We freak out a little bit when things like this happen. This is so foreign this is a first for the United States. Someone here in the United States has been diagnosed with ebola. Well keep an eye on this. Another Health Emergency going on developing this morning. Rising number of cases of paralysis linked to this enterovirus 68. Its been hitting kids especially hard. Thats bryan sotelo, an 11yearold. Hes been in a hospital in dallas as well since july. Now too weak to even speak. Barely able to move his right arm. Doctors are testing to see if he has the same virus thats been linked to dozens of cases of paralysis across the country. There are different severities. Some may affect one, two, three and four limbs. But the virus does stop on its own at some point. Doctors say its too early to know whether the children stricken with paralysis will get back the use of their limbs. Seven states are reporting 28 cases. That number doubling in just a day. A new york teenager is dead after colliding with an opponent during a High School Football game making him the third High School Player to die in the past week. Hugs and tears after a student died following a punishing hit on the football field. High School JuniorTom Cutinella appears to have suffered a head injury and collapsed.
