chrysler to recall older model jeep grand cherokees and jeep liberties saying the defect present unreasonable risk because the peoplen the vehicles and striking vehicles have burned to death in rear impact crashes. the problem according to the government is the fuel tank location. right behind the rear axel. and slightly below the bumper. chrysler moved the tank in later models it says for design reasons. gentlem waging a campaign against the jeep, after a horrific smashup. a tractor-trailer rammed into a jeep charity stopped in traffic. the jeep slammed into the car carrying embry and her dad. i said dad i am okay. but those people -- >> reporter: there was a small fire growing in the back of the jeep. >> he ran over. doors were jammed. busted the window out. with his hands. >> reporter: her father pulled out an 18-year-old but could not rescue the badly injured mother or friend. the fire spread too fast. >> something has to be done. it can't be done soon enough. >> reporter: chrysler is refusing the recall insisting the government's 3 year-long investigation is based on an incomplete analysis. the automaker says the vehicles are safe and are not defective. >> we except forcing sarah. >> unfortunately there are 40 very seriously ill pennsylvanians over the age of 12 also waiting for a lung transplant. and three other children in the philadelphia hospital, at >> i didn't offer any services. >> when he said you were a paid adviser to his legal team, what did you supply in return for that? >> i just answered a few questions from this legal team, not from braun. >> reporter: bosch is expected to say he provided banned drugs to players. in the case of a-rod injected the ailing yankee slugger himself. rather than seek standard 50-game suspensions for first time offenders however one source familiar with the mlb investigation said commissioner's office is considering 100 game suspensions for some players including a-rod braun, arguing they violated twice, once when they dealt with bosch another when they allegedly lied to major league baseball about it. the players are sure to fight suspension with the support of the players' union meaning they may end up facing bosch in person in an arbitration hearing. >> that was t.j. quinn. under baseball's labor rules, no suspensions will be announced unless a player accepts his or he exhausts all appeals processes. appeals could take several months. >> wow. bit of a nightmare. an understatement. the steroid era, felt like it was finally going away. though in this case, things like hgh, technically not a steroid. it is back out there now. >> i have a funny feeling this is not the last we have heard of this. because this happened for, from what we are hearing, it happened for an extended period of time. we don't know how massive it is. so every once in a while we get little stories like this that resurfacing, popping up, somebody else breaks an exclusive story like this. here we are again one more time. >> if in fact some one like a-rod is suspended for 100 games. he makes a fortune. i don't have numbers off the top of my head. that would be millions of dollars missing, millions and millions. >> kidding, there is just over 100 games in the season. >> according to the terms of the man cooperating, tony bosch getting a pretty good deal here. all the charges dropped against him. he gets personal security for himself. not bad. >> should be very interesting. keep you posted on this one. all right, ohio state university president gordon gee retiring after coming under fire for mocking notre dame and catholics and poking fun at the academic quality of other schools. gee said the controversy was part of the reason he is stepping down july 1st. asked why the retirement announcement seemed so abrupt, he said he was quirky as -- and hated long transitions. >> james holmes will undergo mental evaluation now that is a judge accepted his insanity plea. former grad student faces 160 counts of murder/attempted murder. prosecutors want the death penalty. the results of the mental evaluation could be a decisive factors for jurors once the case goes to trial. >> for the first time hearing the voice of the surviving boston marathon bombing suspect. in a conversation from jail, the 19-year-old told his mother that money has been pouring in from supporters. abc's marci gonzalez has details. >> reporter: the surviving suspect in the boston marathon bombings on the phone, heard for the first time speaking from the prison hospital in massachusetts where he is being held. reported loo -- reportedly banned from discuss ing accusations he and his deceased older brother tamerlan, posted two bombs killing 3 and injuries hundred of others. dzhokhar tsarnaev instead focuses on comforting his mother. from their home in russia she replays his conversation. >> translator: you are not in pain?
