What we believe happened after 9 00 a. M. This morning, two men. We believe they were in fact dressed as women in a stolen s. U. V. Rammed into an n. S. A. Police officer at their gate, at their secure barricade. Gunshots were fired by the police. One of the suspects killed. The other, as we said injured. That person being treat in the shock trauma center. One of the Police Officers also injured. Well have much more on that coming up in a minute from suzanne kennedy. Now, n. S. A. Very secure facilities. This is essentially americas front line against terror. This is where they gather information from cell phones computers, electronic data all around the world. Its a place with multiple perimeters. State police on the far perimeter. N. S. A. Police manning the gates. Its in fort meade. The army is also here. As for a motive we dont know just yet. The f. B. I. Is reporting they do not believe this was in any way related to terror. There have been some reports of certain evidence drugs, guns found in the suspect vehicle. We have not yet been able to confirm that at this point. The bottom line right now, two people in an s. U. V. A stolen vehicle ran into the gate at n. S. A. Police opened fire. One of the suspects killed. One injured. And again, the f. B. I. Is reporting at at that point, they do not believe this is in a way terror related. The f. B. I. Has only put out a vague statement. Suzanne kennedy live in baltimore where the officer is being treated right now. Suzanne . Suzanne jummy, we are on the backside of baltimore shock trauma hospital. And let me show you right behind me, this is where engine 21 the ambulance from Anne Arundel County Fire Department has been here all morning. It left in the last five minutes and it transported the n. S. A. Officer here. We can show you aerial footage from newschopper 7. You can see a male n. S. A. Police officer getting on to the gurney. His right arm is in the sling and the left arm is by his side. The hand appears to be bloody. That victim was conscious. Talking and able to move his head. We talked to a hospital spokesperson here who said because of privacy laws they were not able to confirm that the patient would be transported here from the n. S. A. We know from that footage, that aerial footage that it was ambulance 21 that the n. S. A. Officer was put into and then that ambulance has been here all morning long. We have we of course will stay on top of the situation here at the hospital and bring you the very latest at this story develops. Jummy also new this noon Metro Transit Police say someone threw a brick right through the windshield of a bus. M. P. D. And medics are on the scene at benning road and 19th street northeast. Two passengers on that x2 bus were injured and they were taken to the hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries. Man convicted of having unprotected sex with women knowing that he had h. I. V. Will spend a year and a half behind bars. Daniel cleaves was sentenced in Montgomery County this morning, and our Jeanette Reyes has reaction from that very emotional hearing. Jeanette Daniel Cleaves will serve 18 months behind bars with time served. This comes after an emotional hearing earlier this morning where disturbing details were referred to repeatedly in these Court Documents including the moment when one of the victims found out she was exposed to h. I. V. On multiple occasions. Late last year cleaves had unprotected sex with two women without telling them he was h. I. V. Positive. He says he was taking drugs that made transmission highly unlikely. Court documents detail a text message exchanged between the victims and cleaves. She tells him i cant believe you didnt tell me and says i dont feel like living anymore. He tells her hes truly sorry. Earlier this month, the 28yearold pleaded guilty to two counts of reckless endangerment. Cleaves sobbed loudly this morning as his parents pleaded with the judge to let him off with time served. The judge gave him an 18 month sentence minus 157 days. Dan recognizes most of all that because he felt the same pain that these victims felt hes going to remember that if he ever thinks about doing this again. He denied the choice of these women victims whether or not they wanted to engage in sexual behavior with him. Jeanette the law does not require that cleaves be registeredregister ed as a sex offender. But if more victims come forward, he will face additional charges. Jeanette reyes, abc 7 news. Jummy developing now. We are getting our first account from witnesses of a plane crash near the Orange County airport. It happened this weekend. It happened just after takeoff. Right now, Virginia State police and federal investigators are back at that crash site trying to determine a cause. As mike conneen reports, the crash took the life of a 16yearold pilot from spotsylvania. Students at River Bend High School in fredricksburg were stunned to learn one of their classmates, a student pilot died in a plane crash this weekend much the ntsb says witnesses including the Flight Instructor watched as the 1974 piper single engine plane banked left and crashed into a field sunday morning around 9 45 a. M. Just after takeoff from the Orange County airport. He was the only person on that plane and died at the scene. Im sorry for his parents loss because hes doing something that he loves to do. You know . Mike during morning announcements st the schools principal discussed mccalls death. District leaders say counselors will be available here as long as theyre needed. We have a crisis team that comes out when we have a decision like this occur that comes in to support the school. Not only for students but the staff as well that may be having some grief issues. We try to provide support that we have with those issues. Mike his two brothers go to memorial high. The School District plans to hold a moment of silence at its april 13th board meeting. Well be grieving for a while, so i think they bring in extra councillors. Mike according to f. A. A. Regulation, a 16yearold can fly solo with a student pilots license. The plane was owned by the springfield resident and the cause of the crash is still under investigation but the ntsb says preliminary findings should be released next week. Critics say it allows Business Owners to discriminate against members of the lgbt community. John gonzalez has more on why governor mike pence says hes not backing down. John . John a lot of clarifying going on. Indiana politicians are scrambling this afternoon to deal with the fallout from this new law called the religious freedom restoration act meant to prevent the government from forcing organizations to provide services that run against their religious beliefs. 19 other states have similar legislation. But critics think this indiana law gives the businesses the green light to discriminate against gays and lesbians on religious grounds. The governor mike pence insisted there would be no change to the law but Republican Leaders this afternoon are already working on a fix adding new language to this controversial legislation. We feel the need to step up to the plate today and get this clarified and calm the seas here. John and the backlash is spreading beyond the hoosier state. The apple c. E. O. They have delayed questioning lubitzs family about the crash out of decency and respect for their pain. Authorities are analyzing the psychological state of lubitz to try to figure out what made him crash that plane into a mountain mountainside last week. This news just in within the past few minutes. Prosecutors rested their case against the Boston Marathon bombing suspect dzhokhar tsarnaev. Jurors heard from medical examiners who described the fatal injuries to two people including an 8yearold boy. This marks the end of the first phase of the trial. Three people were killed and more than 260 injured in the bombings. This noon, its still unclear what caused a deadly crash involving a church van in florida overnight. Eight people were killed and 10 others injured. Authorities say that van ran through a stop sign crossed four lanes of traffic on the rural highway and crashed into a canal. The van was heading back to near fort pierce outside of West Palm Beach after a weekend convention in fort meyers. D. C. Native actress henson is apologizing this noon for claims that Glendale Police racially profiled her son while he was visiting the university of southern california. The star of the tv show empire told uptown magazine her sons traffic stop last fall was bogus. New dash cam video showed he failed to stop for a pedestrian in a lighted crosswalk and the officer smelled weed in his car. Very dangerous. I dont want you to hit someone. Ill give you a citation for the marijuana. A computer outage for jet blue is now fixed but delays continue this noon for passengers. This picture shows long lines at Reagan National airport. He spent nearly an hour in line with no progress. Jet blue says they check in passengers and issue handwritten boarding passes. While the problem is now fixed, jet blue says residual delays are expected up and down the east coast.
