Coming up on abc 7 news at noon, new hope for people who suffer from kidney stones. And the new two step process t 7 on your side with this Health Matters report. Its a painful problem but a new treatment is promising some relief for kidney stone sufferers. Liz bonis shows us the two step process. The first tool is this big imaging machine. It is used to treat kidney stones by well its called extra shock wave, it uses sound waves or shock waves to break up kidney stones. The second tool is the newer part of the combination. A smaller inline ultrasound machine. Dr. Phil buffington says it it gives you a second set of eyes to look at the stone. For patients such as alan wilson, this combination is ideal. He came in with his daughter for the treatment of a kidney stone in so much pain ache all over my body almost it hurt so bad. Really, really painful. As this demonstration shows, the patients positioned on the table between the two tools. The ultrasound is then positioned for clear visibility. This gives good odds you can break up the stone with minimal risk to the areas around it. If you think about it, very powerful shock waves on the body and yet, to focus it like a gun on the stone. If you dont hit the stone, you beat up the tissue around the stone. In this case, the procedure can be done in an outpatient setting and also go home the same day. In total time less than 45 minutes, its all done and within a week theyll follow up. Mr. Wilson said he was pain free. Great for me. Im liz bonis, abc 7 news. Sunny skies today but rain headed in for the weekend. Doug hill back with the last look at the forecast next. In a race, its about getting to the finish line. In life, its how you get there that matters most. Like when i found out i had a blood clot in my leg. My doctor said that it could travel to my lungs and become an even bigger problem. So he talked to me about xarelto®. Xarelto® is the first oral prescription blood thinner proven to treat and help prevent dvt and pe that doesnt require regular blood monitoring or changes to your diet. For a prior dvt i took warfarin, which required routine blood testing and dietary restrictions. Not this time. While i was taking xarelto®, i still had to stop racing, but i didnt have to deal with that blood monitoring routine. Dont stop taking xarelto®, rivaroxaban, unless your doctor tells you to. While taking xarelto®, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. Xarelto® may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. Xarelto® can cause serious bleeding, and in rare cases, may be fatal. Get help right away if you develop unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising, or tingling. If you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto®, watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. Do not take xarelto® if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. Tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. Before starting xarelto® tell your doctor about any conditions such as kidney, liver, or bleeding problems. Xarelto® is proven to reduce the risk of dvt and pe, with no regular blood monitoring and no known dietary restrictions. Today is the day to make those outdoor plans. Absolutely. Beautiful today. Tomorrow has problems to start but then rain. Clouds increase tomorrow. Good chance of rain by tomorrow night. Rain likely on saturday. But near 60 degrees. Clearing sunday.
