Clouds moving in. Our scan shows all the precipitation off to the south. The leading edge of moisture moving into spots like roanoke and charlottesville now and i think by the time we get into the latter half of the evening commute, well start to see some of that precipitation make its way into our area. So a Winter Weather advisory remains in effect for d. C. And the metro area until noon saturday. However, the National Weather service has just upgraded Washington County in maryland berkeley jefferson, frederick counties in virginia until noon a winter storm warning in effect and those are the areas that are going to see higher snow accumulations and the storm watch weather 7 team will be pulling together our fans and weve updated this snow total map a bit. Were seeing more of a shift in the snow totals farther northwest. Here in d. C. I think its going to be very wet. Mainly rain. Now, we will have the potential of a little sleet and maybe wet snow mixing in. But the ground temperatures are also still above freezing. So most of it is just going to melt. But as you get farther northwest, especially into western maryland and into the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, thats where accumulations may get upwards of two to four inches. Timing this out for you, i think by 6 00 p. M. Well start to see some moisture moving in. Mainly rain and mainly mixing with a little bit of sleet. By 9 00 p. M. That mixed bag of precipitation. More and more, its looking likely this will be more of a rain event. Temperatures overnight, though getting a little closer to freezing so we may have to deal with a bit more of freezing rain. The Florida Republican also hired a new finance director who will initially work for his Political Action committee. Ok. Well turning to the weather now. Whats the latest . Weve got so much going on. There really is. Let me first start off with our live stormwatch 7 doppler to show you whats going on in our immediate area at this moment. And right now, things are very quiet. In fact if you look outside, i was just looking outside the belfort furniture weather center, we have high, thin clouds. Overall, its dry. Nothing happening over the next several hours. Its not going to be until about 6 00, 7 00, you may already be home from work by that time but, you know thats when well start to see the precipitation starting. Temperatures right now are above freezing. Were at 41 degrees at reagan national. 37 in gaithersburg as well as manassas. 38 in martinsburg, West Virginia so temperatures above freezing as the precipitation starts we might see those temperatures lower a bit. Right now so just some of those high clouds and youll notice off to the bottom left corner of your screen you can start to see a little bit of that moisture starting to work its way in and its all part of this large weather complex that will be con shift to the east and really continue to get more organized off shore. So were going to be seeing this moisture moving in from southwest to northeast. And thats why the National Weather service has issued a Winter Weather advisory in effect for the entire d. C. Metro until noon tomorrow and the areas in pink under a winter storm warning and that is where theres a higher likelihood that well see accumulating snow. Our futurecast does a pretty good job of depicting the start time. This is us at 5 00. Still with mainly cloudy a few of that precipitation starting off to our west. Looking at this map, you say oh my gosh, theres so many colors. The green indicating where well have a good bit of rain. This is at 8 00. Think about your friday night plans, youre going to dinner etc. As you get farther to the north, when you see this purple thats where you see a little bit of freezing rain, sleet moving in and the blue indicating the snow. As we go through the overnight hours, a lot of yellows. Some heavier rain bands moving in. Im feeling more and more confident that this is going to be more of a rain event but still mixing in with a little bit of sleet. Its one of those mixed bag precipitation types but as far as any accumulating snow thats going to be much more likely farther towards the west. Waking up tomorrow morning, still a little bit of this rain sleet, snow mix. And then everything kind of taking its way off to the east coast. By about the lunch hour, by 2 00, 3 00, its all done and over with. What can you expect as far as snowfall accumulations . Its not going to be a lot. Especially in the d. C. Metro area. Weve adjusted our snow totals so mainly rain southern maryland, even in d. C. Proper. However, you move into montgomery county, maybe getting close to an inch. But think about it. Even if you get some of those wet snowflakes and more of that rain, it will melt all of that snow and then farther towards the west into western maryland as you get into spots like winchester and petersburg, that is where well see more of the bulls eye of that accumulating snow. If youre looking to make a snowman or something, these are the areas where otherwise, its just going to be kind of a mess. So overnight tonight, regardless, even if it is just rain, be extra cautious on the roadways. Temperatures will be right around freezing. Im also a little concerned there may be some freezing rain. We dry out through the afternoon saturday. Most of sunday is dry. Overnight sunday into monday, our next system moves in. There may be delays and closings monday morning. Fortunately, temperatures right now are above freezing so anything that falls should be wet. But just be extra cautious on the roads this friday night. This will continue during the first half of the day on saturday, i think, wrapping up by noon. Accumulations will be greatest farther northwest in the d. C.
