the background. that's because they had a hefty hefty round of severe thunderstorms. this is what we have going on right now. the good news, the severe thunderstorm warning for charles county has now canceled out. now we're just left with a severe thunderstorm watch. and a good chunk of it has been canceled, especially out to the west of the d.c. metro. areas shaded in pink, prince george's county charles, calvert st. mary's you have the severe thunderstorm watch until 8:00 this evening. i believe this will probably get canceled before then. of course, we will take a look at the forecast in more detail. this is all part of a cold front that's going to bring us relief from the heat and humidity we had for the past several days. caroline? >> thanks, steve. keep us posted. now to our other top story, today new pictures of gabriel giffords were released showing the congresswoman smiling and looking healthy. the new mihmages comes as it was announced giffords will soon be released from the hospital. >> hi, caroline of the the family decided to release the photos because of what they say was intense interest from the public in her appearance. in fact there have even ben rumors of a bounty for the first photos of gifford so the spokesman today released them to help protect her privacy. a glowing gabrielle giffords smiled from the front of her face book page in one of two photos released of the arizona congresswoman sunday morning. with cropped hair and signature smile the indentation on her left temple the only reminder she was clinging to life five months ago from a gunshot wound to the head. though physically making rapid process, those closest to the congresswoman say the road ahead is a long one. >> i got to talk to her wednesday on the phone for the first time. we had a wonderful conversation. very spoke to me in full sentences initiated those sentences, instead of just responding. she's marking remarkable progress. so proud of her. she's working so hard. she has a long way to government you can see how beautiful she is. >> the photos were taken several weeks ago outsigh memorial herman hospital in houston where she continues intense rehabilitation. they're the first glimpse the public has gotten since she was shot at close range during a meet and green with constituents in tucson january 8 where six others died. and the reaction from the public has been overwhelming. within minutes of the posting her facebook page exploded with i love yous and you're beautiful. taking a look for the first time today, people here echoed those thoughts. >> words fail to describe the power of that actually. you know, it was -- it's really something, that she was able to come out of the crisis like that the way she has. >> she looks good considering, like i said, she was shot in the head. >> i think she looks absolutely marvelous considering all she's been through and her life and all of that and all the best to her. >> there seems to be more good news from the arizona democrat. a report out this morning has her aide saying it's likely she will leave the toust rehab facility by the end of the month. still unclear whether or not she will ever be able surrounds congressman anthony weiner tonight as the website tmz.com released new photos showing the new york democrat shirtless. more of congressman weiner escolleagues are saying it's time for him to step down. summer is following it live for us. >> the photos were posted on the website this morning, adding fuel to the scandal. more exposed and more shocking, tmz posted 11 new scandalous photos smrks too revealing to show. self-portraits of congressman weiner taken in the mirror of the house of representatives gym. it's unclear when the photos were taken but tmz reports they were sent to at least one woman. with the additional photos, additional and stronger calls for the congressman to go. >> this is getting beyond ridiculous. i feel so sorry for her family most of all but we have to get thipped us. it's a distraction. yes, he should resign. >> if i were here, i would resign from the congress try to rebuild my life and move on. >> i don't see how he can proceed and effectively represent his constituents. >> in new york today, those constituents were protesting outside his district office. angry voices from the ones who put the congressman in office. so far the congressman has remained defiant, announcing yesterday he will not resign but will get treatment instead. congressman weiner won't be back at work this week. he will take a leave of absence while he gets that treatment. it's unclear tonight whether that will be enough to allow him to return to office. >> thanks. and tomorrow the house of representatives will be back in session for the first time since the scandal broke. mr. weiner is still undergoing treatment at an undisclosed location. d.c. police say they have found the body of a missing swimmer. crews recovered the body this morning after an all-tight search. the woman disappeared around 10:00 last night near the capital yacht club in southwest washington. police have not yet released her name. we have an update tonight on the two officers that were attacked in the heart of chinatown. one of the two officers has been released from the hospital. this attack happened yesterday in the 600 block of eighth street. witness says a homeless man attacked the officers with a pipe. the other officer, who was still in the hospital, is suffering from nonlife threatening injuries. the suspect was arrested. no word yet on charges. still to come here on abc 7 news, a virginia college student is killed. tonight the death investigation is under way. major security breach at the i.m.f. who was suspected in this cyber attack? >> and you have seen roadside solicitors with big, plastic buckets. they operate just feet from the side of the road. it is a big debate >> still no arrest in 21-year-old christopher cummings who was killed friday morning in an apparent home invasion in another rupp. he graduated from forest park high school in 2009. investigators say it appears he was the victim of a random attack. campus police are helping norfolk police with their investigation. and days after his top staff abandonned him, former house speaker newt gingrich is trying to get his presidential campaign back on track. he will deliver a major foreign policy address in los angeles tonight. he will be speaking to the republican jewish coalition. it will be gingrich's first speech since 16 of his top staffers quit last week. gingrich admits he's starting over. the hackers who broke into and international monetary funds apparently worked for a foreign government. the hackers got access to a large amount of data. the attack occurred before former i.m.f. chief khan was arrested for sexual assault in new york. the f.b.i. is now helping in this investigation. still to come on abc7 news -- it's that time of year. people issue is more than just a street debate. lawmakers have tried and failed to pass an outright ban here. to require collection permits, even the idea of finding drivers to give donations. >> if it were where the storms moved from annapolis now drifting off towards the south and to the east. another cluster of storms across king george county into extreme southern charles county. that's why charles county has the severe thunderstorm warning until 7:15. most of you won't see anything at all. everything well to the south. this is what we have in terms of the high temperatures today. once again up to 90. 71 for the morning low. record 95 set become back in 2002. 77 cooled down quite a bit at the airport. due point level in the lower 7 ozz. 69 at woodbridge. over .6 of an inch of rain. pretty much the same in buoy with the temperature of 70. 20-degree drop from a high of 90 and it's 78 in the district where just a touch of rain. not a whole lot downtown. 90 degrees -- excuse me 79 in
