Part of the sevenday outlook coming up in a couple of minutes. We go to ferguson missouri where theres new chaos to report. Police raided a home and took several people in for questioning. That in connection with last nights shooting of two Police Officers. The unprovoked shooting came amidst protests following the resignation of the towns police chief. This follows the department of justice report that found what are called significant bias in the criminal Justice System working there in the system. Attorney general eric holder was quick to condemn the shooting last night. What happened last night was a pure ambush. This was not someone trying to bring healing to ferguson. This was a punk. A punk. Strong words there. Some encouraging words here. The two officers who were shot last night have been released from the hospital today. But the story, far from over. Lets go now live to Pablo Sandoval in ferguson. You heard what eric holder thinks about. Give us a sense of how things are shaping up here today. At this point, leon i can tell you that yellow tape that was surrounding the crash scene has now been taken down. However, as you mentioned, this story far from over. Im going to step out of the way to give you a live look at the scene outside of the Ferguson Police department. You see basically what we witnessed last november and that is the concrete barriers put up surrounding the Ferguson Police department. In fact, just to the left of where that action happening right now where those two Police Officers were standing at around midnight when the shots rang out. Those shots actually coming from up the hill from where were standing for clearly some security measures being put in place. Main concern is there could be more protests again tonight. Not only Michael Browns family but also Law Enforcement will make sure theyre relatively peaceful. With that in mind are the Police Taking any other special precautions over and above what they did last night . I can tell you that st. Louis county police will be taking care of security tonight. We expect any potential protests here and we do know there will not be a curfew in place so the results here from some of the folks that had an opportunity to speak to are fairly concerned. They want to make sure any protesters that come out do do come out here with obviously good intentions and that those protests remain peaceful. For the mood, really on the surface, it does feel relatively normal. Just a few moments ago we saw a school buses begin to assume their routes even a small group of School Children walking right past the very spot where those two officers were shot. As for the latest we know theyre out of the hospital and they are expected to make full recoveries as the search continues for the person or persons that are responsible. Guys . Expect to keep an eye on it. As you know 24 hours ago people didnt expect what happened last night would happen either. Reporting live from us from ferguson, missouri. Over to you. In a related note here virginia senator tim kaine says whats happening in ferguson and other Police Departments across the country underscores the need to confirm a new attorney general. Senate republicans delayed a confirmation vote on president obamas nominee for the job Loretta Lynch today. Abc 7 spoke to the senator before he made his case on the house floor. These are happening all over the country and it suggests a distance between the police force and the community that we desperately need to pull everybody together and not having an attorney general is a real weakness. Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell said a vote could come on lynchs nomination next week. Advocates for Police Reform are in annapolis pushing for legislation aimed at Law Enforcement accountability. And he would stand there and show me how to do it and salute. Posthumously promoted to Police Officer first class Brennan Rabain was laid to rest in davisonville with full honors. Brad bell abc 7 news. Tolls in hot lanes could be coming to another major Northern Virginia highway. Today, vdot laid out a plan that would make the drastic change inside the beltway on i66. Northern Virginia Bureau chief Jeff Goldberg is live in vienna with a look at how this would work and how people are reacting to this idea. Hey, jeff. Right now many drivers in Northern Virginia are familiar with the hot lanes concept using that e. Z. Pass transponder to get in that separate lane and get where you need to go faster. That could soon be coming inside the beltway. Some worry that could cause big problems well into the future. Asking a driver in Northern Virginia if he or she has ever been stuck in traffic on 66 ive never liked it. Is practically like asking if the sky is blue. Doesnt everybody get stuck in traffic on 66 . Come on. Nothing ever moves. Yeah. You cant go anywhere. Sees an orita commutes on 66 every day and gives a thumbs up to the idea of hot lanes like the tollway currently operating coming inside the beltway. I would to be honest. It would save me a lot of time. You have to get there. Today in fairfax, leaders with vdot laying out a proposal to convert all lanes of i66 inside the beltway to hot lanes during rush hour by 2017. Expanding the narrow 12mile stretch of busy roadway is a major challenge and state transportation secretary aubrey lane believes hot lanes are currently the best solution to a very difficult problem. This appears to be the appropriate path to go through and include the stakeholders and get the benefits for our citizens. But critics worry once the tolling starts it may never stop. Might sound nice to some people now. 20 years from now, whats to stop them from tolling 24 hours a day . Whats the maximum toll going to be . And the plan also calls for widening 66 as part of 66 inside the beltway. But that would not happen for decades. Theres also a plan on the table to widen 66 outside of the beltway but that would mean relocation for many different homeowners and they are not about it. Very passionate and strong words from one of those home owners coming up tonight at 6 15. Live in vienna Jeff Goldberg abc 7 news. Thank you, jeff. Getting a better idea of who is using the i95 express lanes that opened up at the end of last year. About a third of the drivers used the roads to get to or from work, no surprise there. Those who use the lanes say they save 20 minutes on a typical trip. Good news there. Interestingly enough more than 2 3 of those drivers who use the new lanes also use the express lanes on the beltway in Northern Virginia. So we spoke with parents today who say that theyre concerned that powder will make it harder to stop their children from drinking underage. At capitals practice today, they saved the best for last. Thank you so much make a wish for doing this. Kaleb graham got his wish. A chance to suit up and skate with his hero braden holtby. Capitals have been my Favorite Team since theyve been starting to get into hockey. And hes the goalie. Pretty amazing. Pretty special. Kaleb has spent all of his 13 years fighting a life threatening heart condition. I havent really known life without a pacemaker. So kaleb hails from alaska. And hes hooked on hockey. There is that part of me that he would be good at chess club or science. He needs to live as long as he can live. You can let it get you down or tackle and get the best of it. Kaleb got to show off his skills in the crease. And then talked about his goals. Just kind of having fun, you know. Living life. A wish come true. Could see his smile underneath his goalie helmet out there. Just how excited he was. A trip hell never forget. People really care about each other in the Hockey Community and even out there, you know make a wish is amazing. Great day for taylor. Lucky because police say when the car hit the tree in an American Legion parking lot around 3 30 issa was patrolling around the corner. As officer issa approached the scene, he saw the car or at least the front of the car fully in flames. As he got closer it got hotter and hotter and look at all the damage to this tree. Odonnell apparently disoriented didnt move. The flames intensifying, he leapt into action. Which is when he smelled alcohol. I dont know if he would have passed out or been unconscious. I can see from the amount of burning that took place, if he hadnt gotten out, he could have been a goner. Issa says hes not a hero. Odonnell faces a d. W. I. Charge.
