This is 66 working your way through centreville. Typical afternoon for us. A little bit of sun glare, too. Thats a look at traffic. Back to you. Leon thanks jamie. If you want to buy a car you know how it is. Most of us go to two to three dealers and see who has the best price. Alison thats right. John matarese shows us when shopping around is not a good idea so you dont waste your money. John sometimes trying to save some money can cost you in the long run. Case in point. The woman who was trying to get the lowest rate on a car loan it turns out her check of multiple dealers may have backfired. When she needed to buy a used car, Valerie Thompson decided to shop around to find a dealer with the best loan rate. Actually applied at four different dealerships. John great idea at the time. Bad idea in the long run. I started receiving letters from these different banks and financing places where my credit had been pulled. John she checked her Credit Report and was stunned. Four car lots had together applied for 27 different loans. One of them actually ran my credit eight times. John she believes the 27 inquiries have lowered her credit score 20 points. In the business this is known as shotgunning. When a dealer applies to multiple lenders for the best rate. Its legal. Experience says it counts shotgunning as a single inquiry as long as it happens within a 14day period. But it can be a problem when you apply at multiple dealers or in that 14day window. I wrote to the Credit Bureau to get the inquiries taken off. They sent me a letter saying i needed to talk to the dealership because the dealership said that i needed to contact the bank. The bank sent me back to the dealership. John she just wants it all taken off. You agree to shotgunning when you sign a car dealers loan application. So you may not want to apply for loans at multiple dealerships. That way you dont waste your money. Im john matarese, abc 7 news. Alison heres the question for you.
