I want you to look out to the west and the lefthand side of your screen all the weather that you see severe thunderstorm warnings and a Tornado Warning in Southern Indiana right now so all this energy will be mixing up with a cold front coming up from the north rather and a warm front from the south later in the week. Jamie sullivan is here with more. Hi jamie. Jamie good morning. Good morning. Im used to the morning shift. Good afternoon, alison. Lets start with traffic. Its pretty heavy for you right now heading outbound on 66 were seeing a lot of red and yellow. 29 minutes. Just under 30 is what its going to take you to get from the beltway closer to Fairfax County parkway. As we shift gears, i want to zoom in a little bit and talk about traffic lights malfunctioning so weve got this on seventh street northwest at madison drive northwest. A lot of lights in the area are out. You want to keep this in mind and make sure if you see any of these lights that arent working, treat it as a fourway stop. As we move a little closer to bethesda, i want to talk metro so if you do typically get on at the bethesda metro station, it is temporarily closed. Thats because of the escalator outage. Your alternate Medical Center and they have buses as well. Lets take a live look and i want to show you 66 so where i was showing you some of those delays. We had an earlier accident right in this area near the Fairfax County parkway. Thats now gone but i want to take a look at this backup and give you an idea of how slow this traffic is. Again, it does start near the beltway. And this gives you a really good idea of just traffic kind of inching along. So again a slow go for you this afternoon. Not morning. And we do have pretty typical delays as well. Normal stuff on the beltway. Thats a look at traffic. Back to you guys. Leon thanks, jamie. Alison weatherwise, today started out kind of messy and then it was decent and now we have the rain moving in. Doug probably going to get messy again. This is the pattern that we talked about yesterday. It was so beautiful for opening day. And then the clouds rolling in. We have a chance of showers this evening. Tomorrow, tomorrow night, thursday, thursday night, friday afternoon again. So very busy weather week. Lets get started with a look at the armynavy country club in arlington and a little bright spot in the sky you may see. Theres a sun trying to break through but theres a lot of cloudiness and the farther west you go from washington, thats where youll encounter the rain. And theres fair amount of it well be dealing with here. The clouds during the day have been pretty persistent. Every now and then, glimpse of blue sky that you saw there. You may see that for a couple of minutes. Most of us will be watching west of this line of showers. So far, no lightning strikes reported. There are a couple of heavy downpours between strasburg and front royal and a little farther north, thats going to spread eastward during the evening. So there will be showers that will impact the metro area during parts of the rush hour. Probably 5 45 6 00 in that time frame and well have plenty of opportunities for more showers as we work through the next few days. 70 degrees at Reagan National right now. 71 in charles hill. 75 in hagerstown. A little cooler to the west. Well turn cooler the next couple of days but the cooler areas coming from the west or the north, its going to actually come from the east. Its going to come off the atlantic ocean. Temperatures now on the beaches about 60. Whats going to happen is the cold front will come through the area later tonight. As that happens, it will swing the winds off the ocean and bring in the cooler air. Instead of 70s tomorrow and again on thursday, well be in the 50s. For this evening, youll see the temperatures slowly drop into the 50s. Well have more periods of showers through the overnight hours as well. Well see more showers at times tomorrow afternoon. A little broader look at radar shows theres no shortage to areas of showers developing to the west. Again, as we get through late tonight and tomorrow thats when we see the cold front come south and that will bring more showers and that will be the mechanism here by early tomorrow morning to turn the winds off the ocean. So it will be chilly and cloudy and drab with periods of showers and drizzle. That will be the story until we hit friday. By friday this whole front will come back as a warm front and by friday afternoon, we could approach 80 degrees with partly sunny skies but then a strong cold front could produce pretty widespread showers and thunderstorms. So pretty dramatic changes. 50s next two days. Near 80 friday and if things work out the weekend may be just fine with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s to about 70 degrees on saturday and sunday and that trend continuing into monday as well. Alison looks like a lovely weekend. Doug at least no more snowflakes and temperatures in the 30s. Theyre gone. Alison you know it. Doug theyre gone alison thanks doug.
