Road. What happened in that house that you see behind me another one right here and several more just down the road beyond that forest. Now, we should tell you that shotgun pellet holes can be seen on one of the houses. The shooter shattered a window. One on white oak road. One on cherry lane drive. One man slept through the shooting but his son who lives with him did not. He said he heard this pow and he said he thought it was a truck backfiring. The bullets went all the way through the house and got lodged in the window in the very back of the house. Now, this bedroom right here, i can tell you the man who lived here told me a few minutes ago his daughter usually sleeps in this room but she wasnt here and thank goodness for that, she certainly could have been hurt. You know from the outset as weve been covering this story, weve been waiting to hear these calls because they always tell part of the story of what went on. And as we play them for you here youve got to consider that there was just two minutes separating the two that were going to call. The first call from the pyle family home at the alarm company, told the operator that he has not been able to reach the residents. I see it is calling with a fire alarm. It was a businesslike call. Were getting basement smoke detector. That was at 3 22 a. M. Just two minutes later, 3 24 a neighbor calls. Her tone and description of the situation are far different. In just those few moments, the blaze had grown out of control. I mean the whole house is on fire. As the operator assures her help is on the way, she describes flames shooting at the castlelike house. I mean theyre the whole house is engulfed. Is anybody inside . I have no idea. She had no idea. Of course, we know the terrible answer to that question now. There were six people inside. Six people who perished in this home back here. As weve been working this story, weve talked with some experts today about how you can protect yourself from a fire when you hear its going to grow so rapidly and well have those answers coming up at 5 00. A neighbor called from a smokefilled home to pull out a 62yearold woman to safety. Others on the scene went in and rescued her 93yearold father. This happened in the 6200 block of seminole place not far from where greenbelt road meets kenilworth avenue. Stephen tschida has the story. At 9 00 this morning, two men driving past saw this house engulfed in flames flames bursting from those windows there. They also looked for the front door. Thats where they saw this 93yearold man struggling to get out. They raced through the door and got him out. From deep inside the house they heard screams for help. One of them crawled on his knees through the flames and smoke to pull that woman to safety. I went in and i heard the ladies were screaming for help. And i couldnt even see her and i called her on the floor and said get on the floor and crawl to me. The woman was unconscious. She revived once she got out of the home and into the fresh air. We understand that she is going to be released from the hospital. Her 93yearold father will spend the night in the hospital for observation. About 10 minutes ago, i got off the phone with mark brady from the Prince Georges CountyFire Department and he says the cause of the fire is a discarded cigarette in bedding. Reporting live stephen tschida, abc 7 news. Thank you stephen. Chaotic scene in boston this morning as passengers rushed in to escape a train filling up with smoke. Its a controversial plan because a lot of parents for elementary and middle School Students say they dont necessarily want a weapon in the school. Theyre worried that accidents could happen with that weapon. So its causing lots of controversy. But here in Prince Georges County, all high schools actually do have an armed officer in every school. We spoke to the head of Prince Georges County schools security and he told us that the big difference is they have the resources in their schools to have Prince Georges CountyPolice Appoint an armed officer to be at the front door of every school. Now, here in Prince Georges County in the wake of sandy hook, they went ahead with plans that every school door is locked. It is an Armed Security entrance and they have panic buttons throughout the school for the teachers and many Washington Area schools have done that as well. Thats right. As Autria Godfrey shows us counterfeit money orders are the new way that con men are costing you money. Got a call. Hey, what are you doing . Excuse me whats going on . The money order which you have deposited, they are fake. This used car dealership owner is understandably angry. Two customers used counterfeit money orders to pay for a couple of cars. We just took those as a payment. They bought two cars from us and we were happy and confident. We didnt think any problems. Ahmed said the suspects shopped his car lot and found an acura and Jeep Cherokee that they liked. They put down a deposit of 9,000 in money orders for both cars. Total sale price 12,000. So far, never had any problems with the postal money order so postal money order was considered just like the cash. Take the cars home that night and they would be back the next morning to complete the transaction. The suspects never returned to the car dealership so ahmed was on the hook for the full 12,000 lot. Parcel inspectors say using fraudulent money orders to make car purchases is a growing problem but it is easy to distinguish from the real thing. For example, on a fake there is no metallic security thread woven in or simply printed on the wrong side. Also, real money orders have a water mark of Benjamin Franklin on the far left side. On a counterfeit one, the water mark is printed on the paper. For ahmed, hes learned a hard lesson. Probably been a little bit more research into it and the way they were exactly there. Both of the cars stolen in this case were recovered and returned to ahmed but both suspects remain on the run. Autria godfrey, abc 7 news. A d. C.
