Moments ago Maryland State Police identified those killed and confirmed the two survivors have now been released from the hospital. There is an investigation into w a plane and helicopter collided in mid air. Alison, both aircraft remain here on the scene and will be here overnight as the ntsb continues to investigate. Just announced the victims on the helicopter are, kristoffer parsons, 29 years old of westminster, maryland. William jenkins, 47yearold of morrison, colorado. 35yearold brendan mcfawn of cumberland, maryland. The survivors, home tonight, scott graeves of brookville, maryland and 75yearold Gilbert Porter of sandy spring, maryland. It is not a hot air balloon. It is an aircraft with a parachute. Thursday afternoon a small single engine plane was only a half mile from landing at Frederick Municipal Airport when it collided mid air with a helicopter. I heard the bang and i looked up and it was right there. Witnesses say the aircraft were both flying very low around 100 feet when it happened. Went out that way toward the monocacy boulevard he says the parachute deployed allowing it to land on a stand of trees. One of the pilots is in a tree right now. State police say the two men on the plane walked away from the crash one uninjured and the other with just a laceration. Were advised that another craft just went down. The helicopter quickly plunged to the ground. What polar couldnt believe was what he saw inside the helicopter seconds after the mid air collision. They were still alive because i could see their faces. They were grabbing on to whatever they could, i guess the window portion of this side of the chopper. Three people were found dead at the Helicopter Crash site. The faa says that aircraft was involved in a Training Exercise hen 2010 down. You cant imagine. You see a helicopter and its recommended that bad. Pretty shocking. The cause of the crash of course remains under investigation but i can tell you the lead investigator for the National Transportation safety board told me tonight that planes parachute sure did its job. Back here at home now this just in from fairfax county. A major decision from the school board. It passed a measure pushing back the start time for high School Students. Theres been a lot of debate about this issue but in the end the decision was nearly unanimous. Tom, how are parents responding . So far most of the parents ive talked to are very happy about this. Let me break this down for you. Right now a lot of high schools start around 7 20. Thats going to be pushed all the way up to between 8 00 and 8 10 in the morning. That said, most middle School Students are actually going to have to go to school earlier, around 7 30 for them. Elementary schools will stay the same. Those that do change time, it wont be more than ten minutes. Again, this is something most parents at least weve talked to so far, seem to support. Tonight elation from parents and students who say Later High School start times were a long time coming. After ten years of fighting for this i am very happy for all the kids in fairfax county. Robin shulen says the current start times have been difficult for her teen at south lake high. The way the kids body clocks are they just arent ready to get up in the morning and have a hard time falling asleep at night. Erin coopers family has fought for this since she was in second grade. She is now a senior at oakton high and says the start times have been rough. I would say i come home four to five days a week, take a nap after school, get up, do my home work, and go right back to bed. The new start times take effect next year though the vast majority of those who came out in favor of the measure that passed tonight, not everyone does. For the sake of your teachers, students, and parents, please no vote for the late start. A High School Counselor said this will put teens on the road at the height of rush hour plus it will make Extracurricular Activities go too late and hurt teens and teachers ability to work parttime jobs after school. Across the potomac in montgomery county, this has been a big issue as well, but far it hasnt happened in large part over concerns over how much it will cost. Here in fairfax it is said it will cost about 5 million because they have to buy new buses to make it work. Tom, thank you.
