Drivers who live in Milwaukee County could be paying an extra 60 dollars a year for their cars. County executive chris abele is proposing a new wheel tax the Milwaukee County courthouse with more. The wheel tax is part of chris abeles 2017 Budget Proposal. Which will be made public today. He says it is necessary. To maintain Public Transportation. Abele is proposing a 60 dollar per year Registration Fee. Which works out to an extra five dollars a month. He says its the only option available to the county as state funding has dropp cannot legally raise sales taxes. He says without it there will be cuts to services. The new Registration Fees are expected to bring in about 27 Million Dollars a year for the county. Funding all the countys transportation infrastructure costs, annual bus replacements, county highway and bridge repairs. It will also help preserve the go pass program, allowing seniors and the disabled to ride the bus for free or at a significantly reduced cost. But the proposal is getting some resistance from the county have not raised fairs.
