Milwaukee police chief ed flynn and mayor tom barrett say the response from the Faith Community has played a major role in keeping the sherman park neighborhood peaceful. Prayer vigils and barbecues took place. Near the bp gas station that was torched. Still. Milwaukee police kept a large number of foot officers available and ready for rapid deployment. This all started saturday after a deadly officer involved shooting. 23yearold Sylville Smith was shot and killed after he ran away from an officer during a traffic stop. Police say he had a gun in his hand on saturday and sunday night. Protesters burned and looted businesses. Causing police to dozens of shots fired were reported. And several officers were injured by protesters throwing things like bricks and glass bottles. The protests prompted Governor Scott walker to activate the national guard. But they were not deployed to the city. Its a much different story overnight. Some arrests were made last night. But it was a relatively quiet night. Our Deandra Corinthios is live. During our interview, smith says shes skeptical of the ongoing investigation, adding that if body camera footage shows her brother holding a gun, she still wont believe the officer was justified in firing his weapon.
