Fox6s Angelica Sanchez joins us live from the newsroom with more angelica. 41thousand fewer voters showed up to the polls on tuesday. The data provided by the Election Commission shows it was some of milwaukees most impoverished wards that saw the most drastic plunge in voter turn out. The reason why depends on who you ask. Its been three days since tuesdays historic race for the whi newly complied data shows thousands of milwaukeeans skipped out on election day. We were surprised by the decrease executive director Neil Albrecht says about 41thousand fewer voters participated in the 2016 election a drastic drop from 2012. Where we saw the greatest decline in Voter Participation were the same areas of the city where we feared the photo id requirement and some of the other changes to election law. Would have the greatest impact. But Governor Scott walker disputes voter ids played any role in low voter turn ou absolutely no proof to that. We had the highest voter turnout weve had since 1972 in the primary process for both democrats and republicans had contested elections. We had the second highest turnout of any state in the nation. If voter id was a deterrent to voting we wouldnt have had those kind of numbers. He thinks the president ial choices made thousands stay home. The simple reason why people didnt show up was that there wasnt enthusiasm for the president ial candidates particularly for Hillary Clinton in some parts of milwaukee. Albrecht says the numbers paint a different picture and sees a growing disparity in voter turn out. The impact of these laws just as predicted are having the greatest impact on residents in large urban areas in albrecht says he hopes the new data can help the state improve the photo id Public Education campaign.
