New from overnight two people are dead after a car crash in milwaukee. This happened just after 1 00 this morning, near 32nd and atkinson. Milwaukee police say a man driving an suv lost control and hit a pole. Two women in the car were killed. In the hospital right now with serious injuries. Also new from overnight a juvenile is killed neat 1st and keefe in milwaukee. This happened just before 6 00 last night. According to the milwaukee police, the death is being investigated as a homicide. The victims name and age have not been released. No suspects are in custody. An autopsy will be done monday. 15 years ago today, terrorists hijacked four passenger planes. Two were flown into the world third slammed into the pentagon, and the fourth crashed in an empty field in pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people were killed and more than 600 were hurt. It was the deadliest attack on american soil. You are looking at live pictures of the World Trade Center site and of video of a memorial held last night in pennsylvania. Today, memorials will be held in new york city and around the country, and twin beams of light will illuminate the sky where the towers once stood. President george w. Bush i can hear you. Be a service at all saints cathedral in milwaukee to honor the First Responders on 9 11. As it does every day, the church will ring its bells at noon and 6 00 p. M. To honor the 9 11 victims. Wisn 12 news time is 7 05. In traffic watch 12, a closure to tell you about out near the airport. This is a live look at our department of transportation cameras at i41 94 at grange. The northbound lanes will be closed until 10 00 this morning. Detours are posted. Also in traffic watch 12, trying to keep you safe on the roads. Right now, the wisconsin state patrol is participating in brake safety week. Inspectors throughout the state are working to check braking systems of large trucks and other vehicles. Its all in an effort to prevent crashes on wisconsin highways. During this week last year, state troopers found more than 2200 safety violations. From the roads to the rails throughout the rest of the week, wisconsin Operation Lifesavers and others will be going across the state to provide awareness and educational opportunities. The president and ceo of Operation Lifesaver says there was a 7 increase in trespasser deaths and injuries near train tracks in wisconsin last year. Operation lifesaver says there are five safety steps to take near railroads, cross safely, dont be distracted, never race a train, avoid trespassing and never hunt or fish on tracks or rightsofway. Workers unfurled a giant American Flag over the building this morning, before a Memorial Service is held a little later. President obama will speak at that service. He has declared this entire weekend as National Days of prayer and remembrance. Right now, you can see a tribute to those victims outside the Greenfield Police department. Firefighters have placed nearly 3,000 flags in the grass outside the station near 51st and layton. The flags represent each of the 2996 people who died in the the flags will stay up until monday. And new this morning, a stunning photo of the American Flag hanging outside the kapco headquarters in grafton. Kapcos president took this picture after last nights rain. The Company Posted it on facebook, saying, let us honor the Service Members and First Responders who provide us the gift of freedom. New this morning, a travel advisory for parts of florida because of the zika virus may soon be lifted. In miami, the wynwood neighborhood and miami beach have been hot zones for the zika virus. The center for Disease Control says the warning in the wynwood neighborhood could be lifted as early as september 19. Business owners in that area have asked the city of miami to compensate them for zikas impact. In one county in florida, bees are dying in large numbers and beekeepers blame aerial spraying for the zika virus. Reporter levi ismail has more on the fallout from fighting levi mark zidek had no idea when he built this for neighborhood owls, that bees would call it home. Mark zidek i mean, theres thousands of them all the time that live there. Levi zidek usually has them removed each year, but this time around bees, nowhere to be found. He believes that area helicopters spraying in the area may have been the cause. We depend on the bees, so it is kind of alarming that theyre getting killed off. Levi but lee county Mosquito Control says they havent sprayed the area in at lst dennis lives in alva and has had his property sprayed over. He cant narrow down what caused it, but shortly after, thousands of his bees were dead. Dennis we try to get them to use pesticides that arent as potent. Dont linger as long. Levi naled, a pesticide, has been at the center of the debate despite less than a thumbnails amount used per acre. One that involves two of floridas largest industries. Bees are necessary for the food we eat and tourism is necessary for our number one source of revenue. Levi spraying at night, when bees are likely hiding is one compromise, but some say its not enough. I understand the need for doing something about zika, but at what cost are we doing it . The rally, called 300 strong, was put together by several blackled organizations in the city. Their goal is to unite the community. Thema everyone who attended received a bracelet that said unify. Today marks 15 years since the 9 11 terror attacks. Looking ahead officials in milwaukee will be at a memorial ceremony. Right now, officials in memorial are at a memorial center. It began just a moment ago, at the War Memorial Center. Milwaukee mayor tom barrett and county executive chris abele will be there, and theyre inviting everyone to attend. This is a look at last years event. The ceremony will honor the victims and First Responders who died from the attacks. Governor walker is also honoring the victims of the 9 11 attacks. He is that State Capitol in just a few hours. Last year, walker attended the memorial event here in milwaukee. From the white house to wall street people across the country are gathering to mourn the september 11 attacks, to remember and to heal. Abcs Marci Gonzalez has the details. Marci today, from the raw, emotional images seared into the collective memory, to the faces and stories of the 2996 lives lost. This morning, a somber heartbreak and horror of 15 years ago today. The impact of the september 11 terror attacks still piercing through the haunting recollections. As we crawled in deeper, squeezing through tiny openings and into a smokefilled environment, we came to the understanding that we were going to die in that pile. In late july, a federal judge ruled he was no longer a danger to himself or to others. Happening now protests across the country, over a pipeline in protesters gathered in chicago yesterday. Because of widespread protests, the federal government has temporarily stopped construction for that oil pipeline. Three federal agencies asked the Company Behind the pipeline to put work on hold, while the government reconsiders the pipeline. Theyre asking for input from the Standing Rock sioux tribe, who have led the protests in north dakota. This is a momentary victory it does not kill the entire pipeline, but at least were protecting the river for the time being. And so thats something to celebrate. Thema an expert in indian law says this move is unprecedented, and its a significant setback for the Company Building the pipeline. Its that time of the year. We join their coverage now, for a moment of silence at the site of the twin towers. 9 11, america remembers. Now reporting, George Stephanopoulos. George we are coming on the air german for the victims of those attacks. In german for the thousands who have sacrificed their lives in bills will toll across the country during the victims of that fateful day. One bell will toll to mark the moment. George family the names of the victims, and david wright is in the shadow of that tower right now. We also saw Hillary Clinton, donald trump, and many other dignitaries gather this morning. This is mostly about the families. David george, this is a scene of remembrance and resolve. And families of First Responders, First Responders themselves and political leaders, Hillary Clinton and donald trump here for this moment of remembrance. The first of six moments of silence that we will have today. Two four each of the planes that hit, two for when the towers came down, one for pennsylvania and one for the pentagon. This chapel served as a sanctuary for First Responders in the immediate aftermath of 9 11, its hard to believe, its 15 years ago today that these tragic events took place. George im joined by the former commissioner of the new York City Police department. Thank you for joining us, commissioner kelly. You were commissioner in 1993 when the World Trade Center was first hit and again in 2002 many years after that, as new york recovered from those attacks. That traumatic day hit so many it still has an effect in the department, and certainly in the fire department. 343 Fire Departments fire officers. The department were spotted a robust way to address the challenge responded in a robust way to address the challenges that faced the bloomberg demonstration. We devoted over 1000 Police Officers to counterterrorism efforts. We deployed individuals overseas, to act as tripwires and listening posts in new york city. And thank god, no major attack as happened in new york city, and also, with the exception of the lone wolf attacks in orlando in san bernardino. George that is a different kind of threat, 15 years later. Its so much harder to defend against. Much more difficult. They developed a certain tradecraft to keep their actions secret. Unfortunately. The big complex plan such as 9 11 is something we are much safer against, guarding against. The Intelligence Community has very much focused on the issue, local police are engaged in the fight. We are monitoring the communications of terrorists much more effectively. And we do see their footprint in the middle east. Business owners in that area have asked the city of miami to compensate them for zikas impact. In one county in florida, bees are dying in large numbers and beekeepers blame aerial spraying for the zika virus reporter levi ismail has more on the fallout from fighting mosquitoes. Levi mark zidek had no idea when he built this for neighborhood owls, that bees would call it home. Mark zidek i mean, theres thousands of them all the time that live there. Levi zidek usually has them removed each year, but this time around bees, nowhere to be found. He believes that area helicopters spraying in the area we depend on the bees, so it is kind of alarming that theyre getting killed off. Levi but lee county Mosquito Control says they havent sprayed the area in at least a month. Dennis lives in alva and has had his property sprayed over. He cant narrow down what caused it, but shortly after, thousands of his bees were dead. Dennis we try to get them to use pesticides that arent as potent. Dont linger as long. Levi naled, a pesticide, has been at the center of the debate despite less than a thumbnails amount used per acre. It has to be managed carefully. Levi its a delicate balance one that involves two of floridas largest industries. Bees are necessary for the food we eat and tourism is necessary for our number one source of revenue. Levi spraying at night, when bees are likely hiding is one compromise, but some say its not enough. I understand the need for doing something about zika, but thema that was levi ismail reporting.
