Tim is live in the newsroom with a look at whats happening this morning. Tim. Tim a sheriffs spokesperson says about 4000 protesters are involved in what they are calling a riot. Law enforcement and protesters faced off overnight. Demonstrators reportedly have been trying to cross a bridge in Morton County and officials are trying to stop them. There are reports that police are using Water Cannons and tear gas to control the protesters. A gym in a nearby town opened up to protesters to help them stay warm as temperatures dipped into the 20s overnight. Protests in north dakota have been going on for months over an oil pipeline thats under construction. Protesters say it could poison the water supply for the Standing Rock sioux reservation. Police tell wisn 12 news that it all started with a traffic stop. Instead of stopping the car sped away. Police say the car swerved into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle and a light pole. A passenger in the car that fled from police was killed. Police say an 18yearold girl was driving the car. Three people in the car that was hit are also injured. Theyre all expected to survive. Tim elliott is here with us with a closer look. Tim. Tim the first shooting happened in texas, another in missouri. Saint louis police are searching for the person who shot an officer in the face. He survived. Police say the officer was sitting in traffic last night when a car pulled up next to him and shot twice. Description of the suspect. And in texas, a san antonio officer was killed yesterday morning. The detective was writing a traffic ticket just outside police headquarters. Officials say another car pulled up behind his cruiser and fired two bullets at the detective. San Antonio Police say they have the suspects car on camera. Melinda new this morning, protests against president elect donald trump continue in Washington State and in canada. This weekend protesters gathered at a park in tacoma and in seattle. Hundreds of people came out to show their displeasure with trump. And in canada, at least one thousand people marched against trump near the Trump International hotel in toronto. Ben new this morning, a mom in seattle has started a movement giving kids a voice in the political process. She started a Facebook Page where kids can write letters to president elect donald trump. The mission to talk to trump openly and kindly. The mom says she was inspired when her son called trump mean. I will say if they are mean talk to them and maybe you can help them be kind. So that was the idea and we decided to write the president ben that idea has gone viral. Thousands of people are participating on facebook. Writing their own letters to trump and asking thim to be kinder. A new york state senator organized a rally with one of the beasty boys.
