He was seen on surveillance camera near the bombing site in new yorks chelsea neighborhood where 29 people were hurt. He was born in afghanistan but later became a u. S. Citizen. Officials say they found a backpack full of explosives at his apartment in elizabeth, new jersey not far from the spot where they discovered explosives in a trash can. Rahami was capturete getting injured in a shootout with police. Hes now facing five charges of attempted murder of a Law Enforcement officer connected to the standoff. The white house is stepping up efforts to address the crisis as the president has named this a week for action and awareness. Our daughter courtney isnt coming home, but we can do a lot to save others lives. The griffins lost their 20 year old daughter courtney to a Prescription Drug overdose in 2014. Sadly for people touched by this, theyre all too aware of the devastating impact. Attorney general Loretta Lynch says the Justice Department is stepping up efforts to reinforce prevention and treatment strategies as well as enforcement. To pull out all their best practices, pull out all their stops now to make sure we all have a strategy to deal with this issue. This week the Justice Department will provide additional funding to help states improve Prescription Drug monitoring programs and the attorney general is directing state prosecutors to share across state lines information on doctors who overprescribe.
