Has been invalidated today, and there is a lot of pain. The immigration activist group voces de la frontera gathered families today trying to understand. It is very hard, and it is terrifying that this is happening. This is actually happening. Valeria ruiz has spent weeks trying to get more people to the polls in high latino areas in hopes, she says of keeping , families from being separated by deportations. Her own parents illegally brought the family to the when she was a young child and , shes been protected from deportation by an Obama Administration program. Now, that policy is up in the air. Im scared. I dont know if i will be safe from deportation. My future was determined from one day to another, my future changed. My life is changing. I dont know what will happen. Voces de la frontera is meetings in the weeks ahead to analyze the Election Results and to talk with residents here about what might lie ahead. Joyce thank you. Stunned. Thrilled disappointed. Americans are feeling a wide range of postelection emotions. We asked some local voters how they feel about the results. Its alright. I thought it was pretty unbelile win. So many wanted to carry over obamas policies and thought she would be a natural carryon. Plus, she is establishment, so i think that is the reason. I am very excited, hopeful. Its alright. I mean everybody gonna survive it, aint the end of the world. Joyce tonight were dissecting , the numbers. It looks like a 20year low for voter turnout in wisconsin. Based on preliminary results 66 that is about 3 less than what the state Elections Commission had predicted. If the number holds, it will be the lowest turnout since 1996, when turnout was 58 . Kathy perhaps so many are surprised at the results because all the polls had clinton beating trump right up until election day. The final marquette law poll showed her with a six point lead in wisconsin, but the actual results trump winning 48 to , swing. Wisn 12 news terry sater talked with the poll director about what did you find out . What happened. What did you find out . So much was made of early voting leading up to election day. It turns out that turnout was lower than expected and that took wisconsins bestknown pollster by surprise. Well, first of all, i was wrong. A tough admission for Charles Franklin who runs the Marquette University law school poll. He says pollsters nationwide are trying to figure out a polling groups in the electorate right . Did you get men and women in their right proportions . Did you get highly educated . Less educated . Young and old and that sort of thing . In the final days, the polls showed a shift but not the , surprise that became a reality. Did likely voters actually vote . The other thing is whether people vote the way they tell you at the time you interview them. In just one week, we are going to win the great state of wisconsin. We are goingwi white house. Donald trump made visits to eau claire and the twin cities in the final week of campaigning. Voters moved toward trump and senator ron johnson in a big way by five to six points. , i think what we saw was the green bay area really come through for republicans generally but we also saw the , north and west and the minneapolis suburbs shift to trump over our last poll. And franklin says trump had suburbs. Republican women were voting 10 Percentage Points less for trump in our final poll. But in the eggs and whole voted , two or three points more for trump than republican men did. Thats a real surprise and a real sharp shift in just over eight days. The cubs won the world series. Thats it. Franklin says pollsters will be studying the stories behind the polling and what went wr for months to come, trying to avoid an election miss in the future. Kathy so with the polls way off, how did trump win wisconsin . Joyce up front host and wisn 12 political analyst mike gousha is with patrick. Youve been taking a closer look at the final numbers from yesterdays election. What jumps out at you . First, turnout was down compared to four years ago, and than the republican nominee donald trump. The final vote shows trump winning by less than 1 . He received 1,409,282 votes. Hillary clinton got 1,381,923. Thats a difference of more than 27,000 votes. And that makes this next number especially significant. In milwaukee county, a democratic stronghold, clinton received more than 440,000 votes yesterday. Compare that to 2012, when barack obama got more than 492,000. Thats nearly 52,000 fewer votes. Of three votes in the county, a turnout similar to 2012 could have had a major impact on the race. In case youre wondering, turnout was also down in the states largest republican county, waukesha. The difference there was roughly 10,000. When you get right down to it, trump got about the same number of votes in wisconsin that mitt romney got in 2012. , that was enough to cost her the state of wisconsin. Patrick those projections were expecting 3. 1 million to vote. It turned out about 2. 9 million. That may turn out to be more of a convenience for people rather than a new trend. Patrick we will talk about the senate race coming up. Well talk again coming up at 6 30. Joyce meanwhile, pr spending his day at trump tower. The lobby is currently closed to the general public. In an interview today, johnson told upfront host mike gousha that it was a change election. How do you explain what we saw in wisconsin and around the country . People have been looking for real change. And i think they look at secretary clinton and senator feingold people who have been in many respects created some of these programs that werent working, created the mess they , were really looking for change agents.
