More than 80 families living inside. Now the focus of the massive rescue effort. The bed shook. Everything toppled this woman said. She and her husband made it out on their own. Across the city of 2 million, many did the same. The quake struck when people were sleeping. I was awakened by the violent shaking of the whole building. The quake began before 4 00 a. M. My 7yearold was in a different room. We could hear her crying for us and we could not get out of her beds to walk to her. Reporter the 6. 4 earthquake was strong and shallow. By dawn, its impact clear. Cars crushed under balconies. Dozens hurt. Dozens more trapped. This morning, the biggest rescue effort is here at the wegwan building. Rescuers pulled more than 200 from the rubble. Even family pets. They are still searching for survivors here and across the city. Already, there are questions if builders cut corners on the highrise. We remember New Hampshire as the state that made him the comeback kid. What we forget is he actually lost New Hampshire that night by eight points to paul tsongas. That is how he called himself the comeback kid. That is something to keep in mind.
