Richland and lexington county were particularly hard hit, and weve been working all around the state to try to restore outages as theyve come up. Jones says the company has rerouted crews from other counties. She says some from sumter will be headed here thursday morning. What youre looking at is a lot of single incidents at different homes, so some of those outages will take some more time to repair than, for instance, a large incident customers back on at one time. That was chad mills reporting. Jones says thats why sce g trims limbs throughout the year to reduce the damage in windy situations like were seeing right now. It was a close call for one taxi driver yesterday afternoon due to those winds about. While driving down millwood avenue in columbia a large tree limb windshield. The driver said he thinks the high winds caused the branch to fall. He says hes lucky he walked away. Because that branch left his cab a wreck. After crews cleared the scene, the car had to be towed away. The storm system is being blamed for the death of one man in Darlington County. The county coroner says the man, identified as michael gaines, senior died after being hit by a Falling Tree Branch while he was walking on gilchrist road in darlington. Someone nearby called 911 right after gaineses was hit and pinned to the ground by the branch. Right before the incident, the tree broke and i guess he didnt know which way to run and the tree fell on him. Stopped along the road near his home to remove storm debris from the roadway when he was hit. Several cities and towns across the south will still be cleaning up after two stormy days in the including the victim in Darlington County. 4 people were killed in virginia which saw significant damage last night from tornadoes. A woman whose house was ruined in last falls floods now has a newly renovated home. Jennifer gneiser walked into her newly renovated house in pine glen yesterday. A National DisasterRecovery Organization with local partners called the rebuild together Initiative Came together to fix it up. Jennifer says shes been apart from her two teenage sons as crews worked on the house. I can instill now in my children a sense of giving and that we can move forward as a family with that sense of giving and repay it that way. Jennifers home is one of 12 homes that the rebuild together initiative is working to restore in the state employees could be in for some bigger paychecks. The House Budget Writing Committee approved a new 7 and a half billion dollar spending plan wednesday. Under the plan, income taxes would be cut and most state employees would get a 1percent pay raise. Millions of dollars going to k through 12 education also includes a 2percent costofliving pay bump for teachers. 250million dollars would also be allocated for roadwork, the committee hopes to wrap up its work today. The full house and senate must approve the plan before the budget takes effect on july 1st. A new initiative by public and private groups across South Carolina will work to stop cyber hackers. Governor nikki haley attended the official launch of the sc Cyber Program at usc wednesday. The goal is to secure the states Cyber Infrastructure by training government workers, business people, and Small Business owners about security techniques. Right now, about 23 hundred people in South Carolina work in the Cyber Security field. New this morning a boil water advisory has been issued for People Living along nursery hill road in lexington county. The affected area is between woodvalley drive and westcott road. A 10inch Water Line Break was reported in that area last night. A wis viewer sent in this picture of water flowing on the roadway there. If you live in the area and are currently under the advisory, you will need to boil your water for a full minute before drinking or cooking until further notice. As of a couple of hours ago, several blocks around bull street had their power restored after going several hours without it. However, an entire block radius in every direction is blocked from laurel and marion street this morning after a traffic light collapsed from yesterdays high winds. Take a look. There are downed tree limbs near the traffic light and one side of it is hanging very close to the ground. One will be able to get near it until crews make repairs. But thats just some of the damage we saw yesterday. There were broken tree limbs that smashed into cars, a homes fence flattened, power lines down and street signs in disarray in other parts of richland county. Crews have been busy since working to get things back in order. Especially sce g trying to get power restored to customers who lost it when those high winds of single incidents at different homes, so some of those outages will take some more time to repair than, for instance, a large incident where you can get a lot of customers back on at one time. You can see on your screen that crews have been working diligently to get power restored, and few are left at this point. New this morning columbia fire crews responded to a house fire richland county. Right now information is limited, but we have heard that people inside the home were able to make it out safely. This is in the Woodfield Park subdivision right behind richland northeast high school. Well be checking in with columbia investigators to learn more on what started that fire. David longstreet believes solicitor donnie myers has lost his moral authority to prosecute cases involving drunk driving. Cases like the one that resulted in a conviction against the man who drove drunk crash that killed his 6year old daughter emma, in 2012. Solicitor myers was arrested monday on a dui charge after a crash. Longstreet says the county cant take any more of a chief prosecutor with a track record of alcohol related offenses.
