After scarbrough pushed down a student with special needs. Caleb says that student. 15year old christian suarez, really started the whole conflict by refusing to move to the front of the bus. The bus driver came back towards christian and told him to go up front with him. So christian acted like he was going to. He stood up and then he threw his book at him. It was like a notebook. But caleb says the driver went too far. The bus driver turned around and said dont throw stuff at me. And then christian yells a profanity at him. And after that the bus driver says dont talk to me that way and he ripped him out of his seat and like hit him across the face. Thats when caleb stood up for the other boy. I like didnt think it was right. I was scared but like i knew what should be done and nobody else seemed to be doing it at the time. So i told the bus driver to stop and he told me he said youre next. But caleb stood his ground after he told me to sit down he just flipped everybody off and walked up to the front of the bus and kept driving. A lot of people are saying caleb is kind of a hero for standing up to the bus driver like that. Ive gotten that a lot in school. Do you think you are . Yeah, i guess. Why . Well, theres Different Things that describe heroes. Theyre not just the people like in movies. Theyre like people that have moral values and stuff. Like so i guess i just stood up for what i believed in. Robert scarbrough is charged with assault and child endangerment. And it was a disaster. As nearly 1100 hogs died. Being overcome by Hydrogen Sulfide gas. Only 99 hogs survived. 64316 in the manure hauling process , as we pump it out of there, out of the pits, that gas is created and usually its vented off and with ventilation with the fans. hoksbergen has lost a few hogs in the past. But nothing of this magnitude. 064257 and we certainly try to follow all protocols, keeping all fans running and ventilation take care of it and things to prevent this but it can still sneak up on you. In fact, so many hogs died that hoksbergen had to take them to this nearby landfill. 061942 we took our equipment and we and we dug a trench about 12 foot deep, 10 feet wide and 150 feet long. We lined it with 2 2 1 2 feet of wood fiber that we got from a local producer and then we layered the hogs in there and then put trash on top of it and then soil on top of that to cover everything it took nearly 3 days for the folks at the land fill to bury the hogs and they are buried well. 063007 06 30 10 the nearly 1100 hogs are six feet under me right now meanwhile Carroll Hoksbergen doesnt want what happened to him to happen to other farmers and he has some advice. The fall of the ash. 094600 theyre gonna leave quite a void in our cities. 101513 its very sad. 101521 i dont really think people in iowa understand just how bad its gonna be. 101440 its hard to be the bearer of bad news. its news that reeks of irony giant trees which have stood through the biggest storms will soon fall to the smallest foe. 095655 the borer will start working from the top of the experts estimate the Emerald Ash Borer is at least three years into its assault on central iowa and that casualties are coming soon. 103820 everywhere we drive in central iowa and probably anywhere in iowa, were gonna see a lot of dead trees. the effect on our landscape could pale in comparison to that on our city budgets. In public spaces alone, there are 26million ash trees in iowa. 094922 if we said conservatively on the average its gonna coast 500 per tree to remove, you know when you do the math on that, 26,000,000 times 500. Thats 13 billion just for removal. And that doesnt say anything about the cost of replacement, which removal. And that doesnt say anything about the cost of replacement, which would be another billion or two. as that sinks in, consider this most of our ash trees were planted in the 60s and 70s as a response to another invasive pest dutch elm disease. 104517 it killed thousands and thousands of trees in every small town in the midwest. the ash seemed to be the perfect replacement. Fastgrowing, tough, tolerant of urban environments. And cheap. Suburbs like clive planted them by the thousands. But its the many small towns like ellsworth where ashes make up nearly 50 of the canopy, which now find themselves in the worst spot. 101652 it could bankrupt small communities when they have to deal with these dead and dying ash trees. treatments work but require a long term commitment. Many ashes will likely be left to die, creating bigger hazards as their heavy branches turn brittle. 104346 its going to be a problem. Its a problem today, and its going to be worse. arborists and foresters worry about disposing of the ash trees, but also about what will take their place. There are already 3 times as many maples in iowa as there are ashes. Adding more could spell disaster should they 101947 there are going to be future bugs and future pathogens that hit our trees. 095247 you could be looking at eab times three, ten, fifteen, twenty years down the road. we might avoid a repeat of history by taking full notice of what exactly is happening today the loss of an iowa native. 102750 this will go away. 102248 and then you have that empty hole and you think my favorite tree used to be there. 095454 an individual tree i can live with; the whole species, thats pretty damn tough. there is time for one last look. To secure in our minds and hard drives. The memory of the times when they held against the wind. And shaded our children. When they secured the banks of our waters. And their leaves danced down our streets. A time when they stood over golden and alive. Until the fall of the ash. Andy fales, channel 13 news. Experts caution that putting off dealing with an ash tree will only add to the eventual cost. Treatments can only be applied to mostlyhealthy trees, and dead or dying ones are more expensive to remove. It wasnt enough to have 15,000 kids with School Choice in florida, he wanted to have 100,000 kids. If he didnt like a project, it was going to be vetoed. It didnt matter if you were a republican.
