It appears the car plowed into a pickup truck and went through hitting the house. There is no word yet on any injuries or what may have caused the crash. Sarah now to some breaking news this morning. Fire crews busy at work overnight in worcester after several fires break out. Kris their work there is being made much more difficult because of the freezing temperatures that weve been dealing with the past few days. Nicole, the cold is not just dangerous for crew, but also their equipment. Its freezing up, as well. Nicole it is, kris. Really firefighters say that was the only issue fighting this fire this morning was just with battling these cold temps. As soon as the water hit those homes trying to put out the flame, it was immediately icing over, causing concern for crews who were trying to get that fire out. Now, this happening on crescent street overnight in worcester. You can see just the intense flames burning from this tripledecker. Now, the good news is two of the three apartments here were vacant. One person living on the third floor managed to get out safely, so no injuries to report. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. But as we have been talking about, its these cold temps that are really causing problems for firefighters. As soon as the water hits, its freezing everything over in this neighborhood. Crews from more than a dozen nearby cities and towns had to be called in to help out. First fire broke out on rain bow lane followed by the second on commercial street just about an her later. In both cases the fire chief says people were trying the warm frozen pipes and thats when the fire started. The third fire over on arnold road is still being investigated. I have never had three fires in one might, no, sir. Cold weather, the frozen hydrants, we did well with with that tonight. Pressure was a couple issue, but we adapted and overcame on that. Kris you really need to be careful there. No one was hurt in the three fires. Sarah and this bitter blast isnt just causing problems for the first responders. There was frozen equipment over at Logan Airport, and there were problems along the tracks along the t. Temperatures below zero were tough to handle. Mbta workers lit a section of track along the orange line on fire with kerosene. The unusual measure taken because of the extreme cold. The heat helped straighten out the track. The t ran some trains overnight to help prevent tracks and switches from freezing. Temperatures hovering around zero also caused problems at Logan Airport. Headed to d. C. For a business trip, and i was supposed to be on the 5 15, and last i checked it was delayed until 7 06. Jennifer massport anticipated problems yesterday, especially with equip on the ground. A jetblue spokesperson told 7news fueling operations were impacted because of dangerously low temperatures. It caused hourslong delays for some passengers. Frustrated but its the best you make the best of a bad situation. Jennifer the temperatures digits. The commute today will probably be quiet because of the holiday. Sarah and freezing temperatures caused several pipes to burst over at faneuil hall. Sunday. A number of restaurants were forced to close their doors. Its not known when the pipe Cannon Mountain ski resort in New Hampshire says a mechanical issue caused a tramway to break down, leaving dozens of people stranded in the cold for hours on sunday. This video from a viewer shows rescuers lowering one person to the ground. 48 passengers on board two cars became trapped after the braking system became stuck. Thankfully no one was hurt. Kris also this morning, police are asking for your help finding a missing harvard man. Zachary marr was last seen in boston saturday morning. The 22yearold is from harvard, massachusetts, and was wearing dark jeans and a blue sweatshirt but did not have a jacket on. Anyone with information on where this young man might be, youre asked to call police. A person is recovering after being hit by a car on comm avenue in brighton. Officers say the pedestrian who was hit was transported to brigham and womens last night. The persons condition not known and the accident remains under investigation. Sarah developing this morning, former new york governor Eliot Spitzer is under investigation for allegedly choking a woman inside a hotel room in manhattan, but hes denying the assault claim. Spitzer and the 25yearold woman had a romantic relationship for two years. Spitzers spokesperson says there is no truth to the allegation and is far in charges have been filed. The woman was treated and released from the hospital. Spitzer resigned as governor of new york in 2008 over a prostitution scandal. Kris also developing this reports out now, former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is one of the people on the short list of possible Supreme Court nominees after justin Antonin Scalia died over the weekend. Both of these cities, boston and worcester, it was the cold temperature recorded of any date since back in 1957. So were talking 59 years ago. You have to go back to get colder. Minus 12 in boston and minus 19 in worcester. In fact, its the airport has been recording observations in worcester since 1948. The second coldest recording there. The move to Logan Airport, 1936, the fourth coldest since 1936 in boston. This is as cold as we see it here in southern new england. 6 degrees right now in boston. Minus 2 in worcester. Take a look. Several big fires breaking out. Intense flames ripping through this tripledecker on preston street overnight. The one person who lived there did get out safely. No one was hurt. Crews had to deal with bitter cold and ice, as well, which made it even more difficult. There were two other fires in the city last night, as well, but again new york injuries in any of the three. Firefighters from more than a dozen communities battling these fires here in weymouth. Calls for the three fires came within just two hours last night. Two of those fires were caused by people trying the warm their pipes. The third is still being investigated this morning. No one was hurt in those fires either. People taking the mbta this morning, pay attention. Were hoping this extreme cold wont disrupt train and bus service. Theyve been working to try and prevent that. Overnight to try and prevent the tracks from freezing over and the switches, as well. Arctic temperatures did cause some problems on the railways on sunday. Mbta workers used kerosene to light a section of the tracks right along the orange line on fire in order to straighten the tracks out for sundays service. Sarah now to a deadly fire in fall river when a building goes up in flames. The threestory home caught fire last night, and even though firefighters rushed to the scene, they had a few obstacles standing in their way. Fierce flames ripped through a threestory home on Eastern Avenue in fall river sunday night. Neighbors say they knew something was wrong when they smelled smoke. The whole third floor, you couldnt even see it. It was in flames. Real black dark smoke, and then the windows blew out and flames started shooting. Sarah once firefighters put out the fire, they ford the body of man on the third floor. They believe he lived in the home. The fire chief says its too soon to know what caused the fire. Inside theres extensive damage to the third floor. It will take us a while to sort that out. This fire was difficult with only one truck in the area when the call came in. Fall rivers ladder truck was helping battle another fire in neighboring rhode island. The bitter cold and ice only made things worse. Everything is frozen. Nothing is meant to work in this temperature. Its our gear. You use it, you make due with what you can, but nothing is meant to work in these temperatures. Sarah firefighters say they pull several women from the first floor. Theyre doing okay this morning. At least one firefighter was hurt when he slipped and fell on the ice. Kris also on 7, 200 people left without power and heat in east boston after a sunday manhole fire there. Authorities say the fire may have been caused by a broken transformer. Putnam and bennington streets closed until crews were able to put the fire out. Crews are still working on this issue. The bitter blast also causing a problem in littleton where firefighters responded to an alarm at the high school on sunday. They ford a broken raid rater and poured steaming hot water into two classrooms. Break so they have time to clean it up. Sah happening today, family and friends will say goodbye to the woman killed bay playing the manhole cover last week. A wake for the 35yearold will be held in her hometown in worcester. She was an elementary art schoolteacher in million. She was on her way to school on friday when manhole cover came loose and slammed into her car. Funeral service will be held tomorrow. Kris new this morning the mbta has been looking for ways to cut costs. One item theyre looking to get rid of is latenight service. Now were seeing plans those cuts may be coming soon. Some are taking that as a sign latenight service is about to be eliminated. The t says the decision hasnt been made yet. The mbta held three public could voice their opinions. Latenight Service Started in 2001. It was dropped four years later because ridership was low. It was breakthrough back in 2014. The extend hours along popular bus and subway lines run until about 2 30 a. M. On friday and saturday. Normally the t stops just before 1 00 a. M. The extended hours cost about 14 million a year. The t is trying to close a 242 million budget gap. The t says the decision has not been made yet, but they didnt put that shift on the schedule because it was easier to add it back in rather than to take it away from drivers. It made it more difficult to keel deal. With how are crews doing this well, kris, if you take a look in the street, you can see firefighter hoses are frozen to the ground. Thats to give you an idea of what conditions are like here. This all happening as firefighters were called to this pretson street home overnight for a threealarm fire. Take a look at the video. You can see how intense the flames were shooting out of this tripledecker, and the homes on the street are pretty close together, so firefighters really needed to knock these flames down quick, but the problem the chief says is that they were dealing with frozen equipment. This was actually the third firefighter that they were fighting overnight. They say their equipment was completely frozen by the time they got there and it was the cold temps that were giving the firefighters the only challenge here with this fire. Now, it was a tripledecker. The good news is two of the three apartments were vacant. One man who lived on the first floor managed to get out. He was not hurt, but again, just taking a live look here, you can see firefighters still remain on the scene. Sarah icy Road Conditions are being blamed for a pileup involving 60 cars in indiana. A dozen people are now recovering after suffering minor injuries in that massive crash. Crews closed the highway for about four hours to remove the cars and get injured people to the hospital. This raging fire was at a tripledecker in worcester, one of three fires, in fact, that broke out in the city last night. The icy conditions giving these crews additional troubles. Ism their equipment froze, making it difficult to fight these flames. 7s Nicole Oliverio live on preston street with the latest. Nicole well, sarah, the fire is knocked down, but as you mentioned, it was the cold temps that really gave firefighters a problem. If you take a look in the street, you can see the hoses still laying on the ground. They are actually frozen to the street here, and the assistant chief telling us thats really what crews were dealing work not only at this fire, but the other two they also fought overnight, saying their problems with frozen equipment. S a as soon as the hoses were hitting the house, that creating sheets of ice, even the firefighters uniforms were covered in ice. This fire here on preston street breaking out just around 2 00 a. M. You can see the flames just shooting out of that building. Now, the good news is the one person who was inside managed to get out safely. Were told that two of the three apartments were vacant. So fortunately there were no injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. But again, the real issue this morning is just dealing with the cold temps and trying to get that fire out. Crews from more than a dozen nearby cities and towns had to come in and help out. That first fire was on rainbow lane followed by a second one on commercial street about an hour later. In both cases the fire chief says people were trying to warm their frozen pipes. The third fire was on arnold road. It is still under investigation. Busy night for firefighters in worcester after three different fires broke out. Intense flames ripped through this tripledecker on preston street. The one person who lived inside did get out safely. So thats the important part. Crews also had to deal with the bitter cold and ice, as well, which made it even tougher. In fact, firefighters from more battle three different house fires in weymouth, as well. The calls came within just two hours last night. The fire chief says two of the fires were caused by people who were trying the warm up their pipes, and it lit a fire. The third is still under investigation this morning. And listen up, people who are taking the mbta this morning, they are hoping that extreme cold will not disrupt train and bus service. The t says that the trains rain overnight in order to help prevent the tracks and switches from freezing over. Arctic temperatures did cause some problems on the orange line and red lines on sunday. Cold weather also caused numerous flights to be delayed at Logan Airport. Sarah the bitterly cold conditions hampered firefighters efforts to douse a fire in fall river where man was found dead on the third floor. Fire equipment froze and one firefighter slipped on the ice. Fierce flames ripped throw a threestory home on Eastern Avenue in fall river sunday night. Neighbors say they knew smelled smoke. The whole third floor, you couldnt even see it. It was in flames. Real black dark smoke, and then the windows blew out and flames started shooting. Sarah once firefighters put out the fire, they found the body of a man on the third floor. They believe he lived in the home. The fire chief says its too soon to know what caused the fire. Inside theres extensive damage to the third floor. It will take us a while to sort that out. Sarah at first fighting this fire was difficult with only one truck in the area when the call came in. Fall rivers ladder truck was helping battle another fire in neighboring rhode island. The bitter cold and ice only made things worse. Everything is frozen. Nothing is meant to work in this temperature. Its our gear. You use it, you make due with what you can, but nothing is meant to work in these temperatures. Sarah firefighters say they pulled several women from first floor. Theyre doing okay this morning. At least one firefighter was hurt when he slipped and fell on the ice. Kris more than 100 people still left without heat in boston after manhole fire. There Authorities Say the fire on sunday may have been caused you see the smoke coming out of the manhole. There putnam and bennington streets closed until crews were able to put that fire out. Crews are still working on fixing that issue. And the arctic temperatures causing trouble at Littleton High school. The firefighters there had to respond to smoke alarms at the school, but it wasnt smoke. It was steam, a radiator pipe failed, releasing steaming hot water into two different classrooms. It is not affecting students yet because school is on winter break this week giving them a chance to get things fixed and cleaned up. So riders could voice their opinions. Late night Service Started back in 2001. It was dropped four years later because ridership was low. It was brought back in 2014. The extended hours along popular bus and subway lines run until saturday. Normally the t stops just before 1 00 a. M. The extended hours cost acted 14 million a year and the t is trying to close a budget gap of 242 million. The t again says the decision hasnt been made yet. Nicole, were they able to get the fires out . Sarah they were able to get the fires out, but as you mentioned, that frozen equipment. Heres one of the hoses. It is completely frozen. Take a look behind me. You can see not only did flames gut this home, but its now caked and coated in ice as firefighters still trying to make sure they got out all of the hot spots. You can see the damage to the triple deck and see the ice form on this house. The fire broke out just before 2 00 a. M. Here on preston street, quickly went to three alarm, an you can see flames shooting out of every window of this tripledecker. Now, the good news is two of the three apartments were vacant. Only one person was living on he managed to get out and he was not hurt. Firefighters say their only challenge this morning was dealing with the cold. That was really a problem. This was the third fire that worcester firefighters fought overnight. By then they say their equipment was rose frozen. One fire broke out on rainbow lane around 4 00 followed by another on commercial street an hour later. The fire chief says they were caused by people trying the warm their pipes. The third fire on arnold road is still under investigation. No one was hurt in any of these fires. Man is dead after flames tear through a multifamily home in fall river. Firefighters say the thirdfloor was engulfed in flames which is where they found the victims body last night. They believe he was trapped. Crews also pulled several women from the first floor. They werent hurt. One firefighter was injured, though, after slipping on ice. A bitter past of cold air is causing some trouble on the tracks for the mbta. The bitter cold has caused problems for the t in the past, as you probably remember. Well, the mbta took steps to try and prevent that from happening today. Overnight they kept trains from all four subway lines in tunnels and underground. That helped shead them from temperatures in the Single Digits and kept any equipment from freezing up. Yesterday along the orange line, workers lit a section of the track on fire with kerosene actually. That heat helped workers realign that part of the track. The cold weather also caused yesterday. Massport says they anticipated problems, especially with equipment on the ground. A jetblue spokesperson told 7news that fueling operations were impacted because of dangerously low temperatures. Some passengers were delayed for hours. There now back to the t. The mbta also kept working switches overnight to prevent those from freezing up. So far it looks like things are running okay. Sarah Cannon Mountain ski resort in New Hampshire says a mechanical issue caused a tramway to break down, leaving dozens of people stranded in the cold for hours on sunday. Scalia was staying at a ranch in texas when he was found dead in his room saturday. He died of natural causes. President obama has said he intends to nominate someone before his term is up. Debate over scalias replacement is now dominating the campaign trail. Senate majority leader Mitch Mcconnell says the next president should be responsible for appointing that justice.
