Jen . Jennifer christa, the commute is just getting under way. This time yesterday there were already issues on the Commuter Rail. Yesterday the states top transportation official was trying to reassure passengers that this winter will not be a repeat of last winter, but for believe. The mbta left explaining itself to passengers. These flyers were handed out at North Station, detailing what commuter line. We apologize to our passengers for any inconvenience that happened this morning. Jennifer keolis, the company that runs the Commuter Rail, says somewhere in andover the last two cars got knocked off the rails yesterday morning. No passengers were on board, no one was hurt, but for much of the day, commuters had to be bussed around the problem spot. Sure, im already an hour late the work, but what are you going to do . Waiting out in the extreme cold, waiting without any word of whats happening, because theres no notifications. Jennifer and there were delays on the red line. State police were called in to investigate after a broken rail was discovered. The cause of the morning derailment in andover is also under investigation. Steel does expand and contract. In extreme temperatures, whether it be hot and cold, that would be factor i think people would be looking at. Jennifer and the states transportation secretary says that broken rail on the red line was also likely because of the cold. Police say she left her eightmonthold baby cold and alone in a car at the wrentham outlets. 7s Nicole Oliverio live with the 911 call made bay witness. Nicole thats right. There was a woman leaving the wrentham outlets. She saw that young child, less than a year old new york that car in a snowsuit but all alone. Theres a baby in a car not attended to crying. Nicole a woman leaving the wrentham outlets spots an eightmonthold alone in a car, the engine off, a parent nowhere to be found. The temperature outside only in that shopper then called 911. How old is the baby . Old, eight months. I dont know. Its tiny. Nicole the woman tells the dispatcher the car is parked in handicapped space outside of the nike store. When officers arrive, they find the babys mother at the car. They looked at mall cameras and believe she was gone for ten minutes. She said she didnt understand she was breaking the law. We said it wasnt so much about the law as judgment. Nicole police dont believe the woman was trying to hurt her child. She just made a bad decision. The child seemed okay at the scene. She seemed a little overheated because she was in a snowsuit. I think mom probably left the baby, just made a terribly bad judgment. I think any parent should know not to leave an eightmonthold unatolded regardless. Nicole now police didnt arrest this mother, but she will be summoned to court facing a officers also say they contacted the department of children and families. Several developments following north koreas announcement that the country successfully conducted a Hydrogen Bomb test. So very important news. Lets go to 7s nancy chen in the control room. Nancy . Nancy christa, good morning to you. The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting later on today to address north koreas claim it successfully tested a Hydrogen Bomb. If confirmed, the test would be a big step forward for north koreas military ambitions. Now, this test could take days to confirm, but u. S. Officials say they are aware of a seismic event in the area of a known Nuclear Test Site there. A Hydrogen Bomb is more powerful than the plutonium weapons north korea used in previous underground nuclear tests. South korea says it finds the claims hard to believe. Given the small size of these seismic waves reported, it believes north korea tested an atomic bomb. Sarah happening turd, the mother of bella bond called to court. Shes sentenced to appear before a judge in just a few hours. Victoria warren is outside the courthouse with more on whats expected at todays hearing. Victoria good morning, sarah. This is her superior Court Arraignment, this coming after the grand jury returned its indictment. So the indictment is against bella bonds mother rachelle bond. It charges her with being an accessory after the fact in her daughters death. It also adds a new charge, larceny, thats because rachelle is accused of continuing to accept public assistance after she new bella was dead. For months bella bond was known the toddlers identity a mystery when her body washed up on deer island in june. Rachelles boyfriend is accused of firstdegree murder and then the pair is accused of dumping the childs body in the water. At District Court arraignment, both entered not guilty pleas. Rachelles superior Court Arraignment is supposed to take place today. Michael mccarthy is tentatively scheduled for his superior Court Arraignment next week. Activity moving from kansas into the midwest later today and tomorrow. But i dont expect any significant storms here over the next few days as quiet weather remains. So we still have this cold snap in place. This will fade away, though, by this afternoon, enjoying more seasonal temperatures, and thats back into the mid to upper 30s if not close to 40 degrees. You know no rain or snow moving in over next few days, although we do increase the cloud cover on friday. And if you look further off to the west of us, you begin to see some rain showers back to the great lakes on friday. Friday night into early saturday morning, there may be a little bit of moisture in here to give us a couple rain or snow showers or even perhaps some patchy freezing rain north and west of 495, however, i dont expect much precipitation on saturday and a lot of us by the afternoon above the freezing mark. Nancy christa, both boys have been in the pediatric icu for the past week. The six and seven year olds recovering as their families wait by their sides. Its not a phone call anyone should ever have to receive. Nancy tears stream down the face of ashley st. Cyr at Umass Medical Center while her son sits in a nearby room. Its the longest five days of our lives. No parent or grandparent should see their kids go through what weve seen our kids go to. Nancy the kids hopped on by adults. They were out for a drive in fitchburg. He has a very, very limited memory. My son loves to go out on the four wheeler with his dad. I have taken him out. They shouldnt have been out at night. Nancy both boys were injured. St. Cyrs son has a compound fracture to his head. His friend has a severe head injury. It was so severe that when rescuers survived arrived he wasnt breathing. The fathers of one of the boys lost a leg. Were hoping for the best and praying for the best. Nancy another man was also injured in the accident, but he has since been released from the hospital. Two cars of a Commuter Rail train ended up off the rails yesterday morning in andover. No passengers were on board, but for most of the day passengers there were huge delays. A broken rail on the red line also caused delays for passengers, as well. And the mother of bella bond headed back the court today after a grand jury indicted her in the death of her toddler. Rachelle bond is set to be arraigned this morning. Shes charged with being an accessory after the fact to her daughters killing, and shes also charged with larceny for allegedly continuing to accept public assistance after she knew bella had been killed. Sarah flames rip apart a home in spencer with a woman and her baby inside. That mother says a mystery woman rushed in and helped them get out to safety. She is talking now to just one station. 7s nancy chen is here now with more on her story. Nancy in. Nancy sarah, there are two different families inside who had no idea there was a fire. They say its because of this woman, a complete stranger, that they made it out alive. A thing at that point was so engulfed, you couldnt even recognize there was a barn there. Nancy an intense pyre raged inside this spencer barn, home even knew they were in danger. All of a sudden i heard someone run into my house saying, get out of the house, get out of the house. Nancy chantelle ricards mom and 11monthold were asleep and a stranger had just barged into their Cherry Street home. Shocked. I grab my daughter out of her crib, ran into my moms room, woke her up. I said, mom, get out of the house. The house is on fire. We ran out and saw the whole garage up in flames. It was really scary, to be honest. Nancy this man got this home video after he saw the fireball across the street. My concern was getting my elderly. Nancy firefighters from three Different Companies battled the flames. The chief says the fire marshal suspicious. Our main focus was to try and save the house. The barn was already fully involved when we pulled up. So we knew we werent going to save that. Nancy for hours the barn smoaldered as the family of six on the second floor and the family of five first floor reunited. Im happy to know theyre all okay and theyre still here with thats all i could really ask for. Nancy and ricard just grateful for the mysterious stranger who saved their lives. Thank god she stopped because we would have never known. Nancy a firefighter at the scene did have some burns on his face, but otherwise everyone was okay. At the newsdesk, nancy chen, 7news today in new england. Christa happening right now, a Boston Police officer is recovering after another driver crashed into his cruiser. It happened last night on blue hill and woodrow avenue. Boston police say the officer was transported to the hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries and crews later towed away his cruiser. Sarah a woman fighting back when she says man tried to rob her. The 65yearold woman says man followed her home and when he tried to grab her, she shot him in the chest. She has a permit, though to, carry a concealed weapon. She says she only shot him once and then ran inside and called 911. She didnt want to show her face on camera. I only defended myself. I had ever right to do that, i waited until the last possible minute before i actually pulled the weapon, until he went to grab me. Thats when i pulled my weapon. Sarah the 23yearold man was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. The woman said that was the very first time she ever shot that gun. Happening now, police are searching for two thieves caught on camera using stolen credit cards at a target in norwood. Police released this video. You can see one of the men riding around on a motorized scooter with a new tv in the basket. Officials say the two men stole the credit cards by breaking into lockers at gems in norwood, dedham and stoughton. These are surveillance stills from the robberies. Christa to say the Fitchburg Fire Department was swimming into action, what a shot that is right there. Great pictures of First Responders jumping into frigid swans. They say the lake started to freeze and then the swans were section to swim in, and not only is that boring, it actually is a threat to them because predators can get to them that way. So the fire chief says this really is a good way for firefighters to practice saving human lives by working on the swans there. Sarah got to do what you got to do. All right. Theres going to be an area of low pressure thats going to be riding just to the west of us. Its a warm storm track for us, so that precip chance of 90 is likely a soaking rain in here on sunday with a southeasterly wind pulling in some mild ocean air. Lets go to 7s victoria warren. Shes on the seaboard. Vicki, what can you tell us right now . I can tell you this fire is still very intense. Theyre just pouring water on it. Were on essex street in saugus literally where essex street meets route 1. Thats why theyve got that exit on route 1 northbound closed right now because theres just so many fire trucks and so many emergency vehicles here. Hour ago now. And we can tell you that its a singlefamily home. At this point it looks like theres not much left of this bidding, completely destroyed by the threealarm fire. We can tell you there were some reports at one point of firefighters inside the building that had gotten into a little firefighters were pulled from the building. It seems that that situation is under control. There are still visible flames, and they continue to just pour water on it. Way too early to know how many people may have been inside when this fire broke out, how they were able to get out or if this was even an occupied building. Were waiting on all of that information right now. But again, its a threealarm fire in saugus right on essex street right where essex street meets route 1. Hundreds of passengers endured delays yesterday, both on the Commuter Rail and the subway, as well. Yesterday at this time, there were already delays on the haverhill line of the Commuter Rail. A train derailed in andover early yesterday morning, and no passengers were on board. No one was hurt. But commuters had to be bussed around that derailed train for much of the day. The states transportation secretary says the cold likely caused the issue with the track there and also to be red line in savin hill where the track was broken. Trains were delayed on the red line, as well. Remember the state has invested some 90 million to winterize the t since last winter. Theyre asking riders to be patient. Over a critical gap in time in the moments following the terror attack in San Bernardino. Says it cannot account for 18 minutes on the day of the shooting, a mystery agents are trying hard to solve. Agents want to know if the couple talked to anyone, met someone or did anything else. They just want to know what they did, whatever it turns out to be. Meantime, a friend of farook is expected to be arraigned this morning. Enrique marquez is accused of buying two of the assault weapons used in the attack. Hes charged with providing Material Support to terrorist, buying the two rifles as well as defrauding immigration authorities by entering into a sham marriage with a russian woman who is a relative of farook. Major League Baseball players have filed defamation lawsuit against Al Jazeera America for airing a documentary that claims they used drugs. Ryan howard and nationals First Base Ryan Zimmerman filing separate lawsuits against the tv yesterday. In this documentary aired on Al Jazeera America last month, footage showed a former pharmacy intern linking howard zimmerman, Peyton Manning and other athletes to the use of performanceenhancing drugs. The documentary alleges manning received Human Growth Hormone in 2011 as he recovered from a neck injury while he was still with the nap us will colts. Through his wife. Victoria i can tell you this singlefamily home you see behind me pretty much destroyed it went the three alarms. Saugus firefighters just pouring water on this building on essex street in saugus right where essex street meets route 1. Thats why they have an exit on route 1 northbound shut down because of all of the fire trucks, all of the hose lines theyve had to run and the vehicles. This fire broke out about an alarms. Were trying to get more information. It sounds like at one point there were firefighters inside of the billing that ran into some trouble, but those firefighters were pulled out of the building and at this point empty. Its a singlefamily home. What we dont know at this point, were people home last night sleeping when this fire broke out . And where are they right now . Well try to get an update from the fire chief in a little while to get some of that information, situation. Theyre still working on putting the flames out. It seems that every time. You know, hundreds of passengers endured delays yesterday. The states top transportation official is trying to reassure passengers that this winter will but there are already issues. To passengers. North station, detailing what went wrong on the haverhill commuter line. We apologize to our passengers for any inconvenience that happened this morning. Company that runs the Commuter Rail, says somewhere in andover the last two cars of the train got knocked off the rails yesterday morning. No passengers were on board, no one was hurt, but for much of the day, commuters had to be sure, im already an hour late the work, but what are you going to do . Waiting out in the extreme cold, waiting without any word of whats happening, because theres no notifications. Jennifer and there were delays on the red line. State police were called in to investigate after a broken rail was discovered. The cause of the morning derailment in andover is also under investigation. Christa this morning a local mother is facing charge, accused of leaving her baby girl out in the cold locked in a car at wrentham outlets. Lets go live to wrentham right now. Heres 7s Nicole Oliverio. Nicole, you also have more on the 911 call for help here. Nicole thats right, christa. This shopper saw this little baby and didnt know what to do, so she called 911. Police tell us that by the time they got here, that little baby was okay but taken to norwood hospital just to be checked out. Theres a baby in a car not attended to crying. Nicole a woman leaving the wrentham outlets spots an eightmonthold alone in a car, the engine off, a parent nowhere to be found. The temperature outside only in that shopper then called 911. How old is the baby . I dont know, like six months old, eight months. I dont know. Its tiny. Nicole the woman tells the dispatcher the car is parked in handicapped space outside of the nike store. When officers arrive, they find the babys mother at the car. Police looked at mall cameras and believe she was gone for ten minutes. She said she didnt understand she was breaking the law. We explained it wasnt so much about the law as it was about judgment. Nicole police say there was a language barrier with the 27yearold mom from rhode island. They dont believe she was trying the hurt her child. She just made a bad decision. The child seemed okay at the scene. She actually seemed a little overheated because she was in a snowsuit. I think mom left the baby and probably made a terriblebly bad judgment. I think any parent should know not to leave an eightmonthold old alone regardless. Nationing charges of child endangerment. The United Nations has called an emergency meeting after north korea claims it conducted a test of a powerful Hydrogen Bomb. s nancy chen is following this story. North koreas claims about a hydrogen still have not been confirmed, but whatever this event was, it triggered a 5. 1 magnitude earthquake. If confirmed the test would be a big step forward for north koreas military ambitions. So far u. S. North korea says the bomb is a weapon that can be used to defend itself against the United States and its other enemies. So fire crews can get all of scene. We also know coincidentally there is an accident at essex street on the southbound side, as well. So the fire has been going now since 4 45 a. M. So now theyre in the hospital. One of the boys fathers is fighting for his life. The young boys are very badly injured. Sarah nancy chen joins us now with more on this story. Nancy sarah and christa, this is a tragic story. Obviously both boys have been in the pediatric icu for the past week. The six and seven year olds now recovering as their families wait by their sides. Its not a phone call anyone should ever have to receive. Nancy tears stream down the face of ashley st. Cyr at Umass Medical Center while her son sits in a nearby room. Its the longest five days of our lives. No parent or grandparent should see their kids go through what weve seen them go through. Nancy on new years eve, of an atv driven by two adults. They were out for a drive in fitchburg. He has a very, very limited memory. My son loves to go out on the four wheeler with his dad. I have taken him out. They shouldnt have been out at night. Nancy both boys were injured. St. Cyrs son has a compound fracture to his leg. His friend has a severe head injury. It was so severe that when rescuers arrived, he wasnt breathing. The fathers of one of the boys also lost a leg. Hes on lifer support. He has another surgery tomorrow. Were hoping for the best and praying for the best. Nancy another man has been injured in the accident. He has since been released from the hospital. Police are investigating how this crash happened. Upper 30s to mere 40 merrimack valley, off to the north shore. Mid30s across southern New Hampshire. Upper 30s through the worcester hills and, yes, a lot of sunshine throughout the day. Causing some traffic problems right now. Lets get right to 7s victoria warren live with the latest. Vicki . Victoria this fire still burning right now. You can see whats left of this home behind me as firefighters continue to pour water. This is a Single Family home in essex street meets route 1. They had to shut off an exit ramp is they could get fire trucks and hoses and run water lines to try to get as much water as possible on this home. What weve learned is that a woman lived inside of this home. She lived here by herself when the fire broke out. There happened to be other family members here at the time. And they helped get her out to safety. So as far as the ox pants of the home go, all out, all accounted for, all safe at this hour. We also know that saugus firefighters when they first arrived on the scene went into the home and at least one firefighter ran into some trouble with his oxygen tank. All firefighters were ordered out of the home, and one firefighter had to jump out a firstfloor window to safety. But again, all firefighters also accounted for. So this was again a threealarm fire. Very intense. And it looks like theyre going to be working on this for several hours and first, of course, they need to put this fire out. Then they can start thinking `about what may have caused this fire. Shortly before 5 00 a. M. And again, one woman lived in the home by herself, and i have been told that she is accounted for and she is safe this morning. Live in saugus, victoria warren, 7news today in new england. Danielle well, the accident just cleared in the southbound side of route 1. But the backup is still to lynnfield tunnel some if youre taking route one this morn, give yourself some extra time, the northbound side of route 1, as victoria mentioned, that exit is still closed, the off ramp at essex street. We still have that backup. Thats to the lynnfield tunnel southbound. North of town, we still have a few more incidents to tell you about, and in andover, we have an accident blocking the shoulder at 495 southbound right where it meets route 93. Then in lowell, another accident blocking the left lane. This is route 3 southbound at the lowell connector. So keep that in mind if youre getting ready the head out the door from the braintree split northbound. That drive is up to 25 minutes this morning. Route 24, harrison boulevard up well. That stretch on 128 southbound to the braintree split crawling there, too. The pike starting to slow down in framingham and then youre stopandgo into boston. The 65yearold woman says the man followed her home and when he tried to grab her, she shot him in the chest. She has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. She says she only shot him once and then ran inside and called 911. She didnt want to show her face on camera. I only defended myself. I had every right to do that, every right. And i waited until the last actually pulled the weapon, until he went to grab me, thats when i pulled my weapon. Sarah the 23yearold man was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. The woman said that was the very first time she ever shot that gun. Christa right now police are searching for two thieves caught on camera using stolen credit cards at target in norwood.
