Staying with the commute, we have breaking news from overnight where commuters were left stranded in the dark after a train on its way to kingston suddenly loses power. Riders spent more than an hour there and they were sitting, waiting for help. Sarah pretty fed up when they got off that train. 7s Nicole Oliverio live in kingston with more on the trouble on the tracks. Nicole well, passengers who rode the rails all the way here until kingston didnt get in until close to 1 00 a. M. They were literally left in the dark. They tell us the lights dimmed and they had no idea what was going on, so the mbta hoping for a smoother commute this morning. Now, the t says a mechanical problem caused the severe delay on the Commuter Rail. The train stopped between braintree and South Weymouth station around 10 00. The t posted trains on twitter advising of the delay, but the delay grew and grew to between 70 to 80 minutes. Finally another train arrived to get that train to kingston at 12 45. One man posted this picture on twitter. It shows one of the cars on the disabled train. Another passenger understandably was frustrated. I was on 10 40. Some people were on 9 30. Ridiculous. Its like winter all over again. I know. Nicole but its not winter yet, and were talking about temps nearly 60 degrees. Passengers frustrateed, hoping this isnt a sign of things to come. Also this morning, were learning new details about that the attorney for the trains operator denying allegations that his client rigged the controls. Youre going to tell us more about that . Jennifer christa, his lawyer told the Boston Herald his client is under enormous stress. A doctor told him not to go to that meeting, this as we hear from the man who tried to stop that train. He said, i got abemergency over here. I get up, i went over, i said, what do you got . When he showed me what he had, it was a whole other ballgame. Nicole t supervisor mark mcneill telling how he and another employee came up with a plan to stop a train with 50 passengers on word but no driver. We couldnt allow failure. We knew peoples lives were on stake. They started cutting power to sections of the third rail, reporter as we were killing section, the momentum kept carrying it. Then lee said to me, you want to kill b15. And i said, kill it all. Nicole the train soon came to a stop. A lawyer for David Vasquez says vasquez denies wrapping a cord around the throttle. He ran as fast as he could to the braintree station to say, i have a runaway train. Get that thing. He didnt even realize his leg was hurt. No one was hurt thanks to mcneill, who says in his 33 years at the t hes never faced a situation like this. And ive seen a lot of things. But this is one i hadnt seen before. Nicole that lawyer for the conductor didnt offer an explanation for what did happen, but he also told the Boston Herald that his client was working with old equipment. Christa breaking news from overnight where two people were rushed to the hospital after an armed Home Invasion in brockton. Police are searching for two suspects, both wearing massings at the time. Its not clear if they stole anything from the home, but the victims say the two had guns. No word on the extent of the victims injuries. Sarah more today in the philip chism murder trial. Jurors spent about three hours behind closed doors after closing arguments. Lawyers say chism is guilty but high school. Prosecutors say there is no evidence to prove that. Somebody saw something, they called. It made the difference. Victoria police say the bus company is called nunez transportation. The company is run independently from the school district, but the mayor says that doesnt make them any less responsible for the children. Victoria the boy was alone for 45 minutes, but he was okay. His parents picked him up. The driver is facing a Reckless Endangerment charge. Proper inspection before locking the bus up and he could also lose his job. We could suspend his license for imminent threat, imminent threat because he didnt follow through with what he needed to do. Victoria and the police chief says theyve already contacted the register to get the process started for this driver to lose his license. The driver will be summoned to court to face these charges. Ism also this morning, officers in quincy are asking the public to help find the driver who was involved in a deadly hitandrun accident. 78yearold akiu ngo died on sunday after she was hit by a car on december 3rd. Police say the driver stopped briefly after the accident to check his car and then drove away. People who live in the area are still shocked the driver didnt do anything to help that woman. Thats just not human. You know, how could he live with himself . That just ratchets it up a notch. I dont understand why someone would leave a human being laying in the middle of the road. Sarah new this morn, police in brewster are searching for an armed robber. The man you see here walked into the brewster farms market on sunday pretending to purchase an item. Thats when he pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money and took off with the cash. To call police. Two firefighters are recovering this morning after falling down a flight of stairs while battling flames at a home in roxbury. Officials say the firefighters fell partly because of the amount of clutter in the home. They were taken to a hospital to be checked out and are expected to be okay. Getting back here to kingston. If they were taking it all the way to the end of the line, they arrived at close to 1 00 a. M. Many kept on board and in the dark, not knowing exactly what was going on. Now, the mbta says the delay was due to a mechanical problem. They say it caused a severe delay on the Commuter Rails kingstonplymouth line. The train stopped between the bin tree and South Weymouth night. The t posted alerts advising people to expect a delay, but then that delay kept growing to between 70 and 80 minutes. Finally another train was brought in to help get that one here to kingston, finally arriving at 12 45 a. M. One man on the train posted this picture on twitter, just one of the cars on the disabled train. Another passenger understandably frustrated saying it was ridiculous. It felt like winter all over again. But were not even experiencing anything close to winterlike temperatures or types of weather, so commuters hoping this isnt a sign of things to oliverio, 7news today in new england. Sarah a local District Attorney is looking into a new report. This found teachers at an Elementary School in holyoke abused special needs students. A Disability Advocacy Organization released its findings last week, and among them they say that teachers threw students to the ground and restrained them in a lyingdown position. It was something that was unknown to folks in law enforcement, including myself. When i became aware of this, it obviously raised some red flags and was very troubling. Christa the district Attorney Says the Disability Group is a legitimate organization, but, of course, theyre not law enforcement, and thats why he has launched his own investigation into that. It looks like the mbta is geg ready to end latenight bus and Subway Service next year. According to the globe, the fiscal board overseeing the mbta asked staff to start the process of canceling services. This comes as officials try to to make the project of updating the mbta cheaper. Sarah bill cosby has filed a defamation suit against seven massachusetts women who have accused him of sexually assaulting them. The comedian filed a lawsuit on monday. It says the womens claims have damaged cosbys reputation and alleges the women made false statements about him for financial purposes. Jennifer christa, his lawyer tells the Boston Herald that his client is under enormous stress right now and a doctor told him not to go to that disciplinary hearing, this as we hear from the man who tried to stop the train. Jurors spent about three hours behind closed doors on monday after both sides gave closing arguments. Now, a neighbor was the one that was walking by and saw this child asleep inside the locked bus. Luckily that neighbor quickly lawrence. Observed approximately a fiveyearold child, male, left alone on the bus. Was asleep. No bus driver was around. Neighbor tipped off police. Someone saw something and tipped off police and that made the difference. Victoria police say the bus company is called nunez transportation. The company is run independently from the school district, but the mayor says that doesnt make them any less responsible for the children. The victims name has not been released yet. Police are still trying to figure out why she was on the track. Christa confusion there because the mother of the victim thought the judge gave Luis Melendez bail, but he actually ordered him held without bail. Melendez is accused of stabbing 31yearold cherise hill earlier this month. Police say she was attacked outside a gas station in worcester. Melendez is charged with murder. Sarah a mail man is being praised for stopping two teens from allegedly breaking into a home in methuen. Police say a 19 year old and a 17 year old tried using a hatchet to break into the familys home around noon last tuesday. At that time the mail man arrived to drop off a package. Breaking news from overnight involving the Commuter Rail passengers stranded for hours on board a train. It didnt even reach its destination until nearly 1 00 a. M. Sarah this is the latest headache for commuters. 7s Nicole Oliverio live in kingston with more on this story. Nicole . Nicole you can imagine how passengers. They say the train got dark, and dark having no idea what was going on when they were on that Commuter Rail last night. The mbta blames those severe delays on mechanical problems. The mbta saying it was the commuter line trail, the kingston plymouth line that got stuck between braintree and South Weymouth station around 10 00. The mbta posted alerts on twitter advising people that the train would be delayed, but that delay kept growing and growing to between 70 and 80 minutes. Now another train was finally brought in to help get that one here to kingston, which arrived at 12 45 a. M. Now one man who was on the train posted this picture to social media. It shows one of the cars on the disabled train. Another passenger we spoke with when she made it off expressed her frustration saying it feels like winter all over again, but keep in mind were talking about temps in the 60s right now and this train was only stuck a few hours ago some a far cry from last winter, but passengers say they hope its in the a sign for things to come. Jennifer right now there is no explanation for what did happen, but that conductors lawyer tells the Boston Herald that his client denies wrapping a cord around the throttle before stripping off. Conductor David Vasquez missed a hearing with t officials yesterday. His lawyer says vasquez is under enormous stress and his doctor told him to miss the meeting. A red line train left the braintree station last thursday with 50 passengers on board, but vazquez had stepped off. He was clipped by the train. His lawyer tells the herald, he ran as fast as he could to the braintree station to say, i have a runaway train, get that thing. He didnt even realize his leg was bleeding. T supervisor mark mcneill, who was honored by the governor he cut power to sections of the third rail and told the strain up ahead not to stop. We were killing sections underneath train behind.
