He is accused of sharing inappropriate images with a student. Officers say the 21yearold was taking explicit pictures of himself and ed ising them to a teenager. Today that teacher faced a judge. Lets go live to Jennifer Eagan outside the courthouse in dudley. That teacher arrived to face a judge earlier. Reporter christa, he was raigned earlier this morning, too. Police say the student was in this teachers classroom and that this all started over facebook. Prosecutors say the 22yearold Joseph Zuniga himself to one of his students two separate times. Police say it began last fall when the former english teacher friended a 16yearold student on facebook. Then used messenger to send the graphic pictures to the boy. A teacher is put in a position of trust. Its sickening to even hear allegations like this. Reporter zuniga sent other graphic images to the boy last year and sent the pictures again this past august. To the best of our knowledge, the student had never communicated back to the teacher. Never said anything. Just remained silent. There was never a response. Reporter School Resource officer overheard students talking about the pictures in the hallway. Officials in southbridge moved quickly and fired him. After his arraignment today, he posted bail. He hid his face and his family shelled him as he left court the judge set conditions for zunigas bail. They include staying away from Southbridge High School, the and not using social media. Jadiann more news today. The trial of a danvers teenager accused of raping and killing his teacher is now on hold. The judge will decide if Phillip Chism should undergo a psychological evaluation which could last up to 20 days. Jury selection has been suspended for now. This week, a psychologist says she saw the 16 yearly banging his head on the floor and he refused to come out of his cell on wednesday. Chism is accused of killing a High School Teacher back in 2013. He faces life in prison if convicted. Christa three people from westport are behind bars now, charged in a horrible case of animal cruelty. Police say their home was filled with fleas and animal waste. Officials came across two deceased dogs. One in a trash bag. The other in a closet. Along with the dead lizard. A 17yearold is also facing the same charges in the case. Jadiann dozens of families are back in their homes after a gas line ruptured and forced them toe advantage wait in medfield. Reporter hey, jadiann, governor baker said he knows are controversial. He says they are the right thing to do. Especially in mind of the fact state have tripled over the past few years. The governor came to the podium on crutches and he outlined a couple of the provisions. If passed, the bill would empower doctors and other medical professionals to involuntary last. Involuntarily commit addicts for up to 72 hours if they are a danger to themselves or others. Only judges can commit people with addiction issues as it stands now. Baker also thinks doctors should prescribe firsttime patients a 72hour smile of painkillers no more. Im a health care guy. I have lots of friends and lots of colleagues in the health care world. I am astonished by the casual nature and the casual attitude they find when i talk to them. About these medications and that has got to change. Reporter the bill calls for a number of changes. Including education for Public School coaches and parents. It would end the practice of sending female addicts to the womens prison at mci framingham. He says there is funding in place to change that practice which has been going on for 28 years. The governor set up a panel to study these issues. Reporter you can see mickey mouse curtains and colorful toys in the worcester apartment home. It is where 22yearold Chantal Nguyen lived with her fiveyearold son. He seemed pretty happy. Staff at the school noticed he was bruising and limping. They called an ambulance to take him to a local hospital. The department of children and families was notified and took custody of the boy who according to court paperwork had significant trauma to his entire body, including his head, face, arms, legs, buttocks and lower back. When police confronted the mom, they say she admitted she saw the pruzs but couldnt tell them. She never reported it. While this neighbor says he never heard or saw anything suspicious, other witnesses told detectives the boy had bruises at different times. And was in severe pain from these injuries. He could not walk and had to be carried up and down the stairs. The mother blamed her male roommate for causing the black and blue marks. But because she allowed the roommate to be around the child and babysit and didnt protect her son, they arrested the mom for allowing her child to get hurt. Kimberly bookman, 7 news.
