A Cheryl Fiandaca uncovers it taking years to get them replaced. I thought i was going to die. I thought my daughter was going to die. Thats what frightened me the most. Trapped in a car covered with a live wires. She had just second to get her 3yearold daughter car seat before the car blew up. It literally blew up. All that was left of it was the frame. It happened . In june of 2013. She was driving on eerie sfreet in dorchester when this utility pole came crashing down on to her car. The transformers hit hood which immediately caught fire. In inside the car were young daughter and three others including another child. I cant believe we even made it out of there. Daughter. This was the first time the utility pole at this corner came down. Three years later, a second pole at the same location also fell. Poles have become an issue. An issue to point that, you know peoples lives are at stake here. City of salem electrician john says cities and towns notify the Utility Companies about dangerous or damaged poles that need to be replaced. And says the wait can long. So how long have you waiting for are them to fix this . This almost two years. Do we squawk loud enough they come down and fix it. But if we dont yell at them to keep on their back they are not coming. An major concern. Many times the fix is temporary. And that creates another problem. Massachusetts department of Public Utilities is agency that keeps track of the damaged poles that are attached to newer ones becoming whats called double but seven news has learned there are more than 30,000 of them on the agencys list. And hundreds of those have been on it for more than ten years. Including this one in east boston that was put in place in 2004. To be quite honest a little embarrassing. State representative ted says these poles are a problem because theres no enforcement or penalty for Utility Companies that are slow to fix them. This is not rocket science. When a old pole. Fifths a problem, you should figure out way to deal with that. It seems like it has to be crisis situation. Thats because for years, the Massachusetts Legislature has been trying to pass bills that would force the Utility Companies to replace the double poles within a matter of months or face fines. But the bills never got passed. But none of that matters. Who says at dangerous pole nearly destroyed her life. Against the Power Companies responsible for maintaining the pole. They are just not doing anything to prevent this from happening again to somebody else. What would have happened if we would have died . We contacted the Utility Companies that own the poles. They say replacing poles is complicated because the wires on the poles belong to several different Power Companies. And coordinating transfer to new poles takes time. In newsroom, im Cheryl Fiandaca. Then does begin to curve northeast so that is just southeast of wilmington, North Carolina saturday with the winds at about 105 Miles Per Hour. And so, at this point, then it does put northeast on watch. And i put this together to show two primary computer models this yellow line right here. This track, if it were to verify would grab some tropical european model which is a vastly superior computer model, thats a track farther south alcs. This scenario, probably nothing. Not even any rain or wind whatsoever. The challenge is there will be cool front dropping out great lakes states timing of that cool front which will determine which track ends up being the one that verifies. We just dont know that. We probably wont know that until some Time Thursday afternoon or evening. Thats where is this cool front through dakotas.
