♪ ♪ or would they pass that wonder on? ♪ ♪ i wonder how it'd change your point of view ♪ ♪ if i gave one to you? ♪ a double whammy for those struggling to recover from a devastating tornado in oklahoma. now more bad weather is hampering the clean-up process. a series of heavy thunderstorms are backing up the roadways that disaster aid vehicles must use. the high winds are blowing debris everywhere and causing pockets of standing water on the roads. meanwhile the first funeral is being held today for one of the 24 victims killed in moore, oklahoma. 9-year-old antonia candelaria was laid to rest. she and six other kids were killed when the twister hit their grade school head on. it was an ef-5 tornado that hit moore, oklahoma, and 29 years ago, a tornado of the same destrutctive strength hit the small town of barneveld, wisconsin in the southwest part of the state. wgn's robert jordan reported right after the tornado hit back then. he went back to barneveld a few days ago where residents have thoughts for the people of moore, oklahoma. i was there one second and the next time puce seek it it is in ... it day by day and make it through and things happen and improve. june 1984 a monster tornado barneveld wisconsin in the middle of the night killing nine presidents and injuring 200 others. like the tornado in oklahoma it scraped away everything. i was there 29 years ago and which is the devastation. even standing on this hill overlooking where the worst destruction took place, it does not tell the full story. at one moment 30 or 440 houses were there and then they were gone, the tops of trees along with them. the water tower was one of the few structures still standing after the tail blasted through this idyllic village scraping it clean. now 29 years later, barneveld has come back bigger than ever. wisconsin 1984. both cities have felt the awesome apocalyptic forces of nature. we lost everything but not on that scale. everything that we had as a community was flattened. barneveld can serve as a roadmap for oklahoma because they proved that life can eventually return to normal. volunteers were the first to step up. . >> different image and mennonites came and helped and helped for weeks and months. they truly did. rebuilding per? [ engine revs ] boat protection people love. now, that's progressive. call or click today. frank and tough talk from president obama about our country's use of drones in the fight against terrorism. the decision to use force against an individual or groups, even a sworn enemy of the united states, is the hardest thing i do as president. america does not take strikes when the opportunity is to capture a terrorist. ... the white house says the drones have accidentantly killed four americans overseas. the president expressed concern about the civilian casualities. but he also stressed that america must be aware of new dangers in the world, and protect itself against those dangers. this same progress if it gives us, the technology to strike a half a world away also gives us the discipline to restrain that power or risk losing it. the president promised to look into ways to have more transparency when it comes to the use of drones. president obama names the new nominee for u.s. attorney in the northern district of illinois. it's zach fardon, a guy from tennesse who is making a name for himself in the halls of the federal courthouse right here in chicago. wgn's julie unruh is in the newsroom with more on the story. it may be one of the toughest jobs around. it is also one of the most rewarding. just ask any former u.s. prosecutor who ran that office and they will tell you so. zach fardon is no stranger to the u.s. attorney's office. he worked there for almost a decade before moving into the private sector. tonight he tells wgn he is honored to be nominated and looks forward to the senate confirmation process. those that know him consistantly use one word to describe him. integrity. the 46 year old trial lawyer hails from tennesse but zach fardon is rooted in chicago these days. this afternoon president obama nominated him for u.s. attorney in the northern district of illinois, a job his good pal and former trial partner pat collins says zach is perfectly suited to handle. back in 2006, the two together put former governor george ryan in prison along with ryan's good friend larry warner. patrick collins, former asst. us attorney: "his judgment whenever tough calls had to be made... unflappable." , when decisions were to be made i was impressed by his good judgment. and on stoppable. when things got hot, he was pretty unflappable. fardon found himself in the courtroom more recently when ex- governor rod blagojevich was on trial. his role was representing the whistleblower. working cases from both sides of the courtroom may have prepared him for this moment.
