[ laughter ] >> the things we throw around back in the weather office. well, time lapse cameras caught just precisely that picture. we had a lot of blue sky out there. and blue sky, we will not have tomorrow. at least part of the day, might see a peek of blue sky, but by the afternoon, expect to see mostly cloudy skies across the chicago area, which raises the spector of perhaps rain and thunderstorms for your july fourth activities. and in fact, national radar imagery suggests that, yes, there are some storms sitting out to our west. to begin with, notice spotty showers down through parts of the southern and central plains, thunderstorms in the northern plains. this actually is leftover stuff from hurricane alex, the remnants now pushing to the north tend to reinforce whatever precip comes down on the chicago area tomorrow as a cool front actually pushing across the northern great plains approaches our area. look at this, bow echo, strong winds being reported in places like nebraska and the dakotas. one tornado touched down with that activity. that's just ahead of the frontal boundary. we're looking at very interesting weather coming up. our computers bring the rain into the chicago area tomorrow afternoon and keep it there intermittently through tomorrow night. so not a very pretty picture. however, it is possible that this particular model may be a little ambitious, so we're crossing our fingers that outdoor activities won't be spoiled. but it doesn't look particularly good at the moment. 87 was our high temperature in chicago today. and temperatures across the region tonight, mostly in the mid to upper 70s across the area. humidity, we didn't have a great deal today. dewpoint temperatures were in the 50s. that's the case tonight, except in some of the far western suburbs, where dewpoint temperatures have, as you see, made it into the low 60s. meanwhile, the winds are softening tomorrow, july 4, clouds will increase, late storms, a good bet, low temperature tomorrow night 70 to 74 and more rain expected. could be some heavy downpours. some indications suggest that monday may be the rainiest day of the next three. 81 to 85-degree temperatures with passing storms. southwest winds fairly strong, in between 10 and 20 miles per hour. seven-day forecast has a chance of storms tuesday and wednesday. temperatures fairly seasonal through that period, except where rain and cloud cover manages to temper the temperatures a little bit, but we'll finish up the seven-day stretch with at least dry conditions and seasonal temperatures in chicago. but the big question, will it rain tomorrow? looks like it. probably afternoon and evening. we'll have to watch that. >> what time? >> oh, come on! >> what exact time? we want to know! >> there's a very good chance we could see some beginning in a scattered fashion after 3:00. but probably the heavier stuff would be during the evening hours. >> [ laughter ] >> i hope you know how to use the grill. >> i do. >> i hope it floats!
