Secure. Good Thursday morning at 7 o 5. In the new center here's what's trending in c.h. News footage a school board goes full bore on the budget tonight no special session on transportation at least not until after Christmas a great experience the works on a settlement over multifamily housing we also have traffic and weather together all the 10s but 1st our top story tight budget lots of work to do that's what Gretta superintendent of schools Dr Tony Jones says as the Board of Education tonight will take a deep dive into the $167000000.00 package. It increases spending by 2.33 percent and Jones says the board is going to you know work to get that along obviously with that myself and staff to 2 percent which was the guidance from the Beattie and so that means we need to reduce about half a $1000000.00 out of the budget and we're going to talk about that on Thursday night how best to approach that talks about some of the areas that will explore to reduce There are some accounting adjustments that I'm recommending that are inside the budget there are some I don't miss that are trying to have as least impact let me put it that way to the classroom as we can and will discuss on Thursday night and again it's trying to find a half $1000000.00 out of the budget professional development for staff was among the items put off from last year to reduce costs and Jones says it gets more difficult each year to find areas to reduce the increase but the salaries are increasing higher than the 2 percent expected increased then every year you're reducing something out of the budget and you can't restore everything because if every year you're reducing If you're going to the store or something you're just reducing something else professional development is one of those areas where you know we're very fortunate in Greenwich we do have a professional development budget that allows us to bring in high quality people to work with our teachers we are able to attend professional development so it's not an area this year that we are able to restore what was cut last year to a speedy begins at 7 o'clock at cause Cobb school will get a recap from school board chairman Peter Bernstein tomorrow morning at 730 the board meets next Wednesday night to approve a final budget to send on to the Board of Estimate taxation w g c h u said time is 7007 it appears the state lawmakers will not hold a special session on highway tolls until January at the earliest Governor Mitt Lamont has been calling for lawmakers to hold the session before Christmas to approve a transportation package that would include a joint introduction of electronic tolls for states on for trucks on state highways . The go along makers say the only possible December session would be to vote on a bipartisan measure to settling a lawsuit over the state hospital tax the governor also saying he may withhold some state funding until they get this plan done with electronic tolling Meanwhile state lawmakers from Greenwich will be gathering at town hall this morning at 8 o'clock for the annual legislative breakfast put on by the Greenwich United Way and we'll speak with say Representative Liddy floor among those in attendance She'll join me at 750 just before going in there also state Senator Alexander purchasing and state representative Steve investors will be there as well as Fred Camillo who is a former state lawmaker state representative and now the 1st selectman tell you g c h you said time is 7 o 8 the greatest planning and zoning commission has approved a settlement with the developer over an application on Millbank Ave and have a buyer place director of planning and zoning Katie Deluca tells us if you remember several years ago they're doing the commission change the rules they are take down to no longer permit multifamily only thing go to family there is a couple of projects that came in under the wire and when I'm no bank was one of those 5 a lot which were going to be confounded dated one large apartment building and parking underneath on the corner of have a mayor and no bank. Lucas says p n c a denied the application at that time they were very concerned about the math and having one large building like that and they weren't happy with the project and the applicant then quit going appeal that denial and we've been working for the last year or so. With the applicant to try to come up with a plan that works for the commission and the applicant could also be up to it Lucas says that has been achieved she talks about what will then happen there are more units than had been originally proposed there's 30 now but it is a separate building the floor area is the famous It had been previously and there's a connection between the keep building it is a one story lobby that you really won't be able to see based on the way that the parking fee of the state works in the proposed landscape and the proposed settlement now goes to a hearing before a judge next Thursday December 12th at 11 30 am at Hartford Superior Court Lucas says there was some comment about the settlement at the last meeting which will be submitted to the judge for the hearing w g c h u said or time 710. Well certainly Connecticut and it looked like they had agreed on you know the scope of the work just agree on their method of funding and unfortunately those talks quickly broke down and people retreated to their corners and we think you have come full circle back to just the toy truck only tolling. Had been abandoned earlier for lack of support we truly think that the parties need to get back together and come up with a bipartisan solution that will have enough votes to actually pass I mean at this point Erick it seems as if the Republicans are saying listen we're not pledge supporting any plan that has tolls so as long as that's part of the mix there's not going to be a bipartisan solution is that is that a correct analysis I think it's a great read Tony and I perhaps truly I think if you know other sources of funding written Saturday you know they put forward a plan that borrows heavily from the states rainy day fund I think they are looking for a solution that does not include. That they would like to get behind now the governor has come out and said that he's not going to release money promised to cities and towns until a transportation financing plan is is said well what's your take on that development . That you know that that's certainly an aggressive play and that's not seem to be January but you know if they came together in they got everyone got on board it couldn't very quickly so let's hope that that is what happens at the end of the Day Now you've talked about a bipartisan plan but there is their support they are among Democrats who have the majority to just push through a plan if they support the governor's plan that's the question and I'm not sure that even very know that at this point time again you know lawmakers said no one has actually asked them we are going to be voting on this issue now you know there has been caucuses during the regular legislative session so I'm sure the leaders have a pretty good idea where everyone wants but it would be it wouldn't be in their. Interest to schedule a vote on tolls without actually knowing how that vote is going to come out 1st so you know I think that those caucuses are going to have some soul searching before they without any Republican support and then you know c.b.s. Has talked about a bipartisan plan but better to c.b.i. Support tolling in any way shape or form. You know how. Can chili but there's a lot of caviar there you know. There's got to be something done about this lack of trust in government issues you know just last year the voters overwhelmingly kinetic overwhelmingly supported especially transportation walk locks and it was just not diverting funds that were meant for transportation purposes and yet. Just that it's very last here right after. The voters of Connecticut have spoken so clearly on the issues so you know I just don't know. Until that trust issue is really dealt with whether. You know how they're going to get to the parents and how they're going to get the support of Connecticut people. To. Go back on their promises when it comes to taxes and. Connecticut residents and businesses in that state it's going to be a tough one for us we're certainly going to tell you rate it wouldn't be so right now I can't say whether we would support it or not but you know that trust issue is something that's going to have to be all right Erica always good to talk to you thanks very much and we'll see has things develop as we get toward the end of the year thank you very much and have yourself a 3 great day. Not with told I don't believe that I know our caucus is resolute in against any form of tunnels I don't know about the Senate Republicans and the Democrats in both houses are totally empty and I don't even believe they've taken a vote count and there are other ways to do it and ways to fund it as needed and to me I really know and believe that we need to improve our infrastructure for the good of everyone but there is no plan there is no timetable there is no priority list that's where you have to start find out what is necessary and then you figure out how to fund it it doesn't have to be done all at once either you're painting a gloomy picture though as to whether anything is going to get done a special session or even next session. Well I think something will get done but I think we're going to have to just go back to the drawing board and I think we have to go back and truly being committed to work together collegially and to really listen because you can't start out with no tolls truck only tolls bridge only tolls 153 gantries I don't know 11 gantry I mean you just can't do that people's heads are spinning and it's hurting the entire process all right let's talk about a couple of Benson or you get a get go into the tree lighting tomorrow night a town to morrow night yes that 4 o'clock that is such a wonderful tradition celebrates of all ages. And it will be here and. That tree is beautiful and then on Saturday we're going to celebrate not celebrating commemorating Pearl Harbor Day and that will be it were 30 and of them are going on a tree on a public safety complex and I am so pleased because it's very cold during that phone liberation and and it just takes away from the attendance and the enjoyment and the limited bit when we're standing outside reason so I am so pleased that they sought to move it indoors or something very large a kind of Ok great so that we 430 Saturday tree lighting is what time again on sat on for 4 o'clock I think they throw the switch for 30 but hot chocolate and cocoa and everything comes out it for what I would get for a representative horn I guess you're not joining me during January I know I'm going to be with family and out of state but Representative Metzger's my wonderful colleague has agreed to do double double duty so he will take my Thursday call in and then he'll do it on the phone when like all right fair test of so we'll talk to you in February in the meantime have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Martin Luther King Day you know what I would rather our holidays president say we are going to lie I mean I pray.
