Train the entire way. Correct. Thats correct. The reporter eyes on the run away redline train that took off unmanned from the braintree station thursday morning. The dispatchers along the nine minute duration of this particular incidents made the decision to clear any and all northbound trains that were along the braintree branch. We went inside the mbtas command center with c. O. O. , he said dispatchers decided within minutes to direct all lead trains to keep on going, making no stops until they passed the j. F. K. Station. The next nearest train had only a tenminute lead time. However, the fact that this train was not making any station stops had the decision been made to, by the dispatcher to not express those change, that window would have diminished. At the same time the control center sequentially killed power to the third rail, ultimately halting the run away train at j. F. K. The operator identified by sources as David Vasquez had reached multiple safety protocols before ultimately leaving that train unmanned. Of those breached safety procedures that led to this incidents a passenger on board gave us an exclusive photo of the operators cab. We start the knocking on the conductors door trying to communicate to him, there was no response. The train was able to move on its own because vasquez a placed it into a bypass mode to try to avoid a switch issue at the braintree station. The move prompting immediate changes from the state. Where no longer allowing the use of that bypass procedure unless a second senior mbta official is physically present at the time the procedure is executed. The reporter but the mbta acknowledges that operators are faced with the need for that bypass procedure. Multiple times a day. So having to wait for a senior official to get down there to let it happen, means passengers will also likely be facing some delays there. Records we pulled from the registry of Motor Vehicles showed David Vasquez was cited eight times for speeding between 1984 and 2000. Vasquez has been found at fault in two accidents. And the mbta saysette redline car involved in this incidents was the oldest in its fleet. It was built around 1970, and then rebuilt in 1985. Despite that, the mbta says these older cars are the most reliable of all the redline cars. And all 25 of the older cars are still in service. Vanessa the mbta has said it did not have a way to communicate with passengers as the run away train rolled down the tracks for nine long minutes. Fox 25 investigates looked into the Technology Used by other major transit systems around the country. Eric rasmussen is in our control room now with what he found. The technology is out there. Fox 25 contacted subway systems from new york to san francisco, and in some cases, there is a way for passengers to hear the conductor of their particular train. Hard to understand . Maybe. But passengers hearing about that run away redline train. How could they let a train leave the station without a conductor on it. The reporter say something, any kind of announcements about what was going on would have been better than nothing, as a train with no con buckettor ran through three stops conductor ran through three steps. Even on a normal day, some say communication is limited. They dont really announce anything. The train coming and leaving, and thats about it. The reporter the t confirms, there is no way for its control center to remotely make announcements to passengers. Buff the metro in washington, d. C. Told fox 25 investigates, its trains can switch into something called p. A. Mode, to deliver emergency information. In fact, entire trains are controlled remotely with the doors. In san francisco, dispatchers can also make announcements, on bart trains, but a conductor has to be on board to throw the switch. Theres no question that i think we need to communicate more quickly and more effectively. But braintree member joe sullivan warns the flow of information in an emergency has to be managed carefully. One of the problems about providing information is that you dont want to provide misinformation. You want to be concerned about making sure that the information accurate. Army Officials Say Corporal Andrew aimesbury died after a live Fire Training exercise, the 21yearold was a native of stratford, and went to dover senior high school. Corporal amesbury which was at fort stewart in georgia when he was critically injured, but its unclear exactly what happened. The commander of aimesburys battalion releasing a statement that reads in part, Corporal Andrew aimesbury was ran exceptional ranger leader and an extraordinary man, he was universally liked throughout the battalion for his competence as a warrior and his caring nature. Well, ted, an officer here with the Revere Police Department Tells me that michael deloan was arrested in quincy quickly brought here to the Police Department for questioning and to be held here until his arraignment on monday. Now, our cameras were there at the scene, at 71 waite street earlier today as investigators continued to do their work and police tell us, that deleon, who is from lynn, is charged with the murders of 35yearold Christie Johnson and 66yearold peter pitari. They were both shot inside this multifamily last night, along 38yearold man, who is seriously injured, but expected to survive. Now, neighbors tell fox 25 they heard a scuffle in the apartment, before someone pulled the fire alarm, and while they were walking down stairs, they found a man bleeding and saying that his girlfriend was inside, now, speaking with the Revere Police department and the suffolk d. A. s office, they are not yet ready to release any information as to what led up to this triple shooting, but perhaps, well learn more on monday as deleon is set to be arraigned in chelsea district court. Tonight investigators are trying to find out what happened leading up to the moment of impact. Fox 25s stephanie quinu spoke to the homeowners daughter who heard the violent crash and admits, it will be hard to shake that from her memory. Tracey griswold told us after she ran out of her familys home right here, she found a childs toy right on the ground, right next to the car where it came from, and take a look, that car crashed right through her familys living room wall, just feet away from where she was standing. I just turned and heard that awful sound. It just i cant i cant get it out of my head, and yet i cant describe it. It was just awful. This stretch of roadway, we do see a good share of accidents, but you know, nothing this corner, no. Police are now looking to see if weather conditions contributed to the crash. For griswold, she says her heart breaks for this family, having to deal with such a devastating loss during the holidays. Police say a man was driving under the influence when his car crashed into another car. A body was thrown from one of the cars was found in this mans backyard. Swampscott superintendent tells the globe that High School Principal edward rosemarek is not suspected of any improper behavior with students, for misconduct. Parents say a lack of qualified inhome nurses has forced them to quit their jobs, so they can care for their children. If theyre not paying nurses, because they cant find them, i think the shortterm goal is to at least pay the parents and take that financial burden and stress off of what is already a physically and emotionally draining experience. Todays concert is a chance for sophie to play as an inspiration to others going through similar difficulties. Its really amazing for us to see her now.
