But i checked on massdots realtime cameras across the state shows that most thoroughfares are at least moving most around 30 to 40 miles an hour. Travelers we spoke with say they knew that today was the busiest simply wanted to be with family as soon as possible. Mark i have a feeling its going to get done, come you know what or high water. Kevin especially the high water. Oh my gosh. Mark thanksgiving, kevin. Lets talk about it. Kevin its going to be a Beautiful Day with sunshine and temperatures in the 40s. You probably want to know about this thanksgiving. We have clouds to our west, starting to go move our way. It is chilly out there tonight, we know that, not freezing cold weve been tracking this since it was born in the rockies, that sound like a commercial. Born in the rockies, and moving into the middle of the country with snow, rain, and ice. Now, its Still Producing snow in the northern reaches of the u. S. , michigan, Upper Peninsula of michigan, and the glove side, as well as into western new york, and pennsylvania. And this is becoming more prominent too. When we first started talking at 4 00 p. M. , theres a little bit of this. Now its widening and the reason is, this storm is moving east. The warm air is riding up over the cold air, so the snow the rain is not moving east, the know is getting more and more. So what we were talking about here is a warm front trying to make its way on in here and not doing a good job of it. So thats my concern for tomorrow. No, its not going to be a big storm, were not going to have a lot of snow or ice around here. Just takes a little bit to cause problems. Thats what i want you to be concerned about. 34 in worcester right now. So you know the temperature is going down below freezing easily, probably before were 10 00 p. M. And 11 00 p. M. Boston, getting close to freezing at the airport tonight, this is the east boston temperature. Now in the back bay, it will be freezing overnight. 32 degrees. 28 out there in the suburbs and 20s off to the north and west. Look at this. Low to mid 20s. So when anybody precipitation falls in that kind of an air mass, it has to be something frozen or freezing. If its frozen, its a snowflake, if its freezing, its a raindrop that freezes on contact. The way the as it first moves in, in the morning, it would be snowflakes over the interior. Youre not seeing it in the futurecast data. Sometimes the computer models dont pick up in the light precipitation activity, but when you have warm air moving up above and a little kicker in the atmosphere, which were going to have, sliding on through, thats the warm front, youre going to get light precipitation, there will be flurries here and there will be some drizzle, the closer into the coastline you get. Now, southeastern massachusetts, it will be warm enough that its just going to be raindrops, but north and west, youll have some some of the higher elevations, thats about it, but my bigger concern is with temperatures being so cold in the morning, anything that falls can make it slippery in a couple of spots. Just be aware of it as youre traveling especially going off to the north and west along route 2 out to Worcester County and the berkshires through the mass pike. By the evening, thats when the rain starts to arrive in more earnest. There will be showers around here, even a steadier batch of rain. This too, north and west of 495, we have to watch for those temperatures, which will only make it to the upper 40 degrees for highs, to actually fall back through the 30s and well have to watch for spotty ice. Going northward, ski area getting more snow. Around freezing in morning with the slight risk of some flurries or some freezing precipitation through the 30s in the afternoon, but getting to the 40s mostly for high temperatures, those 30s were kind of around that, so getting to 30s by lunchtime and dropping into the 30s by dinnertime. 40s, but only upper 30s back there for your high temperature. Sevenday forecast shows the weekend. New information coming in on that. Ill put that together for you as we talk through evening. Mark someone could be extra thankful tomorrow. Tonights Powerball Jackpot is worth 250 million. The lump such cash is 22 million. One lucky winner took home 487 million in july in manchester. You can plan out your night and it was a survey done about 12 of people plan to black friday shop, starting at midnight. Then youre got your 1 00 a. M. M. , 22 percenters, those are the people that like to sleep in. Shopping on line has become such a big thing we wanted to give you an idea of when people are shopping on line. Thanksgiving, 47 of people say if theyre shopping on line over the course of the holiday weekend, theyre going to do it maybe people need to get away from inlaws for a few minutes, although i love mine. That womans car struck two other cars. We will hear more in a report at 6 00 p. M. Vanessa were also watching the weather closely tonight. Things could change dramatically by morning. Mark fox 25 Storm Tracker chief meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz is here, and some wintery weather is on the way. Kevin town, thats a different question. Lets explore that. Temperatures on the chilly side for this time of year, they will continue to slide under the clear skies, through the 30s and eventually into the went and therein lies the problem. You see, theres a storm to our west moving toward us. Much of this is going to move to the north. You see this piece thats sticking out here, that one right there, thats the warm front and thats pushing toward new england. And on the eastern nose of this, thats all snow, and this snow rather than going staying just a little snow and changing over to rain, it just keeps growing. And thats because the warm air is not making its way northward or eastward either. We are going to be in the cold air as the precipitation arrives in the morning. Temperatures right now are in the 30s to near 40, even 41 in norwood. These will be falling and well be tracking that. It is going to be light precipitation. Flurries or even some freezing drizzle. And thats something were going to talk more about in just a few minutes. The good thing problems resulting from the weather on roadways. Heather hegedus has been tracking that for us this evening. Vanessa what a difference a day makes, kevin, because last night when julie was here, we were tacking about massive traffic backups because of not only rush hour, but thanksgiving holiday, early commuters, but tonight, a much different story. If you can wait until after 8 00 p. M. , things are really good and tomorrow night and tomorrow afternoon, great time to head out to your loved ones. You can see a ton of green on 5 30 p. M. On a week night, but i think a lot of people got to leave work early today. The one area where you see some red, the expressway and areas heading right out of boston, but as soon as you head up, north or south, youre in the green. Here a live look at the zakim, heres the traffic going north here out of the city right here, the brake lights that you can see, those cars are moving and theyre plenty of distance between those cars, so thats a great sign things are moving along. Here are your live drive times. A lot of green again. Tobin bridge to 128, sustain minutes. Right uptotheminute. You see the green, thats good. Leverett connector to 125, 20 minutes as well. Vanessa now turning things over to the weather. Fox 25 Storm Tracker chief meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz, tomorrow looking messy. Kevin a little daisy, just a little bit. This is it never going to be a big storm. Weve been talking about it all week long. It is a big storm to the well. Theres rain and snow from this snow, been snowing a lot from minnesota to wisconsin and michigan. Youre going to see the snow here. There was a little bit of snow 4 00 p. M. , but now, theres quite a bit more and you think why is it changing to reign the rain staying where it was, but the snow area continues to grow and there is called overrunning. Warm air goes over the top of cold air, produces clouds and precipitation and if it stays cold all the way to ground level, its snow. The rain would come in, if the lower parts of the atmosphere were warming. Because the snowflakes would melt on the way down, thats not happening. Thats my concern here for tomorrow. 40 boston, 30s in the suburbs, of boston as well. And heres where were going tonight. In to the 20s, low 30s, freezing in boston, low 20s, in southern new hampshire, southern vermont and into Worcester County and western massachusetts. So futurecast shows the clouds coming in and not much in the way of precipitation in the morning, but we know that futurecast doesnt always show the light of the precipitation in these situations. We also know etc. Going to be cold. So anything that falls out of these clouds during the morning, is going to fall the north and west, much like youre seeing up here. I just dont believe, i dont buy the computer model prognosis thats only going to be up here. This front is going to be draped right to our south, so its going to produce some light precipitation in southern new england. Wouldnt be shocked to see some grassy surfaces getting a coating, especially out on Worcester County and beyond in to southern new hampshire. As far as drizzle, most likely just at the coastline or in southeastern massachusetts. But we just see this all time when you have a situation like supplant it. Doesnt happen very easily. So were going to be tracking this closely in the morning to watch for any slippery spots of course, meteorologist shiri spear will be all over it first thing in the morning. Who have to the west, more potent part of the system working its wave on in. It will bring more prominent showers during evening, snow to the north and west with rain in southeastern massachusetts, but here too, im not convinced the cold air is scoured off of the massachusetts turnpike. Well have to watch for spots of ice, late tomorrow night and first thing friday morning for black friday shoppers. Maybe some breaks of sun, to start to work it during the day on friday, behind that batch of rain, but the going to be a tough go. High temperatures tomorrow, youll see here, only getting into the 40s. Somerville the outliar there at 50 degrees and back in Worcester County, upper 30s in some of the colder spots, so that just tells you how chilly were going to start and how much warmer were not going to get tomorrow afternoon. Heres the sevenday forecast, i threat heading our way and theres some rain and snow showers painted on in there and the problem, is its going to be a system coming off the coastline, so on black friday, some breaks of sun and temperatures generally in the 40s, things arent looking so bad for that. We need to tackle the weekend storm threat just ahead. Mark Young Musician in illinois is relearning how to blame the cello with a brand new arm.
