A judge is expected to Boston Police can force officers to wear body cameras. Fox 25s crystal haynes is live at Boston Police headquarters. The police union who filed this lawsuit has responded. Wearing the cameras and volunteered for the program several weeks ago. Now, the union says that they are all for the leadership stepping up and making this gesture. But the group, the Community Use of body cameras, they are actually criticizing the union for stirring up the controversy around this issue. Reporter the Boston Police union requested to delay the citys body camera program. Commissioner bill evans announced his chief and seven other command Staff Members have volunteered. You know, those commanders are always on the street. Reporter evans and members of that command staff joined clergy, friends and family of a young man killed wedsd peace walk. Chief william tells me he wore a camera to the City Council Meeting in august and a month later evans was forced to assign 100 cameras in what was supposed to be a volunteer program, prompting the patrolmans union to file a lawsuit in Supreme Court claiming it was a violation of their contract. Union president patrick rose tells me theyre applauding the leadership saying, quote, we believe that the commissioner and his staff have made a positive move forward. With this display of leadership, by doing what other cities have done in wearing body cameras. Its kind of embarrassing that the command staff themselves would have to wear these cameras to engender the reporter the Camera Action Team cofounder tells me they believe this is just grandstanding. In the courtroom on tuesday and wednesday, he mentioned he was a patrol officer, that he was fully supportive of a Pilot Program for body cameras, and yet he himself as an officer did not even volunteer for this program. Wed like to apologize for the the flight. Boylston officers arrested the man for spray painting mail boxes in one neighborhood and ended up finding more than just paint. Tonight a New Hampshire man has been convicted of secretly videotaping women at a bathroom at a Joseph Hennessy placed a small camera on a flower pot inside the womens bathroom at kickstand cafe two years ago. A worker found it had his lawyer says the father of two plans to appeal. Hell be sentenced later this month. Her plea came a day after the babys father ryan barry pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced to 12 years behind bars.
