Nearby hospital. This all started around 5 30 this evening. We understand a father and son went swimming with wetsuits in the water. They are experienced swimmers, were told. The father and son did not return home. So members of the family became concerned. They came down to the beach, noticed that their bikes were still here. They couldnt find them. So they contacted the police. That launched this massive search, and you agencies out there including coast guard with a jayhawk helicopter searching overhead. The son, he managed to get out on his own. He actually walked up to the command post around 7 20 tonight. But the father, it wassed he was still missing so they were still searching for him for a couple more hours. But around 9 20 this evening, we heard over the radio, the coast guard saw him treading water, the main beach area is and a rescue swimmer was deployed. The rescue swimmer grabbed that man and they were able to bring him here to shore. So were still collecting more information about who the father and son, where theyre from, and the whole circumstances surrounding what happens tonight. But its incredible. The First Responders are obviously thrilled to have an outcome like this, mark and vanessa. Its something that everyone always hopes for but you dont always get, especially on a and the tides are extremely strong. Thats the latest reporting live in ipswich, im ted daniel, fox 25 news. Given the water temperature this time of year, its a miracle this man survived roughly five hours in the water. That wetsuit obviously a livesaver. Temperatures in the water, 59 degrees. So without that wetsuit, that amount of time, youd be in big, big trouble, if not gone. Theres crane beach. The condition is stuff with the unusually high water. And the water is 59. And the pull of the ocean strong evident with the crowded going tide, and the low tide is occurring right now. So the tide has been going out all afternoon. So at 5 30, when that trouble started happening, no surprise the pull of those rip currents was extra strong at that time. When we can expect the fog to lift out of here, coming up. And jason, were following more breaking news this time riding his bike was struck and killed tonight by an suv. Erika richey is live at the scene on main street. I understand police are having a hard time identifying the boy. They, vanessa. Were gonna talk about that in just a minute. But first i want to direct your attention to the suv right here with the brake lights on, the Police Officers are standing near. That is the suv that struck the young boy and just a minute ago investigators were driving it going at the proximate rate of speed it was going at the time of impact. Theres another investigation going on behind the scenes thats working to try to identify this young boy. Were working very closely with School Officials and a cell phone that the boy had to try to get an id, but is so far this is just been really frustrating because, you know, we know theres a family out there that lost their son tonight and we really need to and up to this point we have not been able to make a notification and this has been going on since the boy was hit around 6 45 tonight. It happened in front of Teen Challenge on main street in brockton. The driver who hit him was in this silver suv. Its still on scene because the driver stayed and were told is cooperating with police. Mayor carpenter says hes 18 years old and is currently being evaluated at the hospital. Its too early, he says, to tell Attorneys Office has now taken the lead on this investigation. You can see once again as were back live that the suv is in the middle of the road right now as main street remains shut down while investigators try to figure out, once again, how this happened. But here is why its been so hard for investigators to try to identify the boy, even though he had his cell phone. Its because its locked. So theyre not able to get inside to find his contacts. They were able, though, to identify him by his and so theyve put that out to all the school fishes in brockton to try to get a name on this child. And theyve also been checking in with the dispatch at the Police Department to see if anyone has reported a child around his age, maybe 12 or 13, missing. So far at this hour no one has. So of course were gonna stay here until 11 00 and try to see if theres any identification or progression in this investigation. Fox 25s malini basu is live in walpole where a source tells us police made a quick arrest thanks to the photo one of the girls on the teen bus took. Yeah. They really did. Theyre thankful for that girl, mark. First, here he is. Darryl granton is his name. And investigators tell us he is a level 3 sex offender. They tell us he was following a bus full of girls, and it was thanks to one teenager who pulled out her cell phone and snapped a picture of his car. Reporter its this picture that Walpole Police say helped them catch a level 3 sex offender. Investigators say he was, quote, trying to strike again. Investigators told us darin granton was following a school bus full of girls from the Agricultural High School in walpole. The teens were headed to a volleyball game. At some point the teen pulled exposed himself and then was performing an act on himself. Reporter the quick and smartthinking teenagers not only snapped a photo of grants car but then told the chaperone on board. Immediately the officers that were responding to that scene knew that that was the area of a level 3 sex offender. Reporter police told us they knew exactly who they were looking for. First responders wanted to fly him to boston but couldnt get a helicopter because of the foggy conditions. The woman, who was driving the car, cooperating with police. Yesterday a shooting on dorchester avenue. Our crews saw about a dozen shell casings on the ground here where police were looking for ave. Police tell us the man who was shot is at Boston Medical Center with lifethreatening injuries. They have not made any arrests. Developing tonight, Andover Police are still looking for help tracking down a man they say exposed himself near a school. The students at st. Agusta Elementary School were at recess when they saw the man on monday. They told their parents who then let the principal know about the incident and she called police. He exposed himself. He that he was speaking, turned around and exposed himself at least a second time. Officers who were at the scene of last wiebes shootout had just gone through the program a week before and they say what they learned kept their two i want to thank the team up at mass general. Reporter Boston Police commissioner bill evans thanks the mgh medical Team Including dr. King. That name sounded familiar to us. Police sources confirm to fox 25 that it is indeed dr. David king, the same doctor who saved lives after the marathon bombings in 2013. Who had just finished the mara performed surgery to bombing victims. And its the same doctor who operated on at least one of the boston Police Officers gunned down answering a domestic call last week. He had trauma to the leg. The great care thats begin to both officers. The doctor list him among other things as a marathoner, iron man, triathlete, surgeon, harvard professor and deployed he started working at mass general in 2008. Some of that training helped treat marathon victims in 2013. All of our patience has benefited, the Lessons Learned from the past decade. Reporter one of the lessons is the tourniquet used on the battlefield to save lives. Dr. King has reintroduced it through a program that trains teachers, School Nurses and includes a group of boston Police Officers who took his program a week before the east boston shooting. They credit that training with keeping their brother officers alive until they got to the way she applied it just came off training. Just this past thursday. So you talk about a coincidence really paying off. And it did pay off. Both officers, who were in extremely critical condition, were upgraded yesterday to stable. As the Police Commissioner said its due in large part to the team at mass general, especially dr. David king. And i know the doctor doesnt want to take all the credit here. Certainly there are a lot of but there are people who reached tout you to say you know what, he does work miracles. The doctor wants the team to be recognized, and we do recognize everyone. But this guy is outstanding. We showed this story on facebook and he said he was shot point blank in the chest and during surgery his heart stopped twice. The doctor reached in and squeezed his heart to get it to start again and saved this mans life. This guy is something special. He is incredible and just think how many lives he has touched. And going forward, as well, gun the extreme ways he goes about doing things and saving lives. Its incredible and hes so talented. Hopefully well hear from him tomorrow. Lets turn to the weather now. Now the fronts moving northward and the temperatures are warmer in beverly than theyve been all day, and its way after dark. You still see where that cool air is, nashua, lawrence, all of these areas still stuck in that pocket of cool misty air. Its come back up. Boston 10 miles, just fine. Portsmith thats where we have a dense fog advisory. Be extra cautious the next couple of hours if you plan on heading out. We do have some dense fog over the next few hours to worry about there. And our visibilitys improving in worcester, of course, but they could start to drop again overnight, in those windprotected areas and the cape and the islands im more concerned about some fog returning for you by sunrise tomorrow. So theres the warm front right this is the front that was supposed to come in very quickly today and blow a south and southwest wind across and warm us all up. But a lot of us got caught in the soup. We did break that record as expected in hartford, connecticut, 84 degrees where they were earlier today. So as you wake up in the morning, youll see numbers in the middle 60s. Its gonna be on the mild side. Well have that gusty south and southwest wind still kicking for us. Itll be a mild start to our there overnight i think is gonna be into southwest New Hampshire, and then by afternoon tomorrow, its mainly south of the pike where we see a slight chance of a shower. Thats not the big story. The bigger story is we all warm up. Look at wind direction. It is going to be offshore. We have an approaching front thats gonna be weak. It will gradually slide through but it will keep those winds moving in an offshore direction. Were not gonna see that ocean cooling like we had today. In fact, 80 in plymouth. Offshore wind. Th gonna feel like summer with upper 70s and the Greater Boston area. Mirror comes the front. Again, not much rain with it but im leaving 20 on the forecast. Store surveillance captures the moment a stranger tries to grab a toddler from her moms shopping cart. It happened in houston. The mother says she turned her head while shopping daughter. Luckily the little girl was strapped into that shopping cart cover. The mom says his words were disturbing to say the least. I was trying to take you while your mother wasnt looking. And it was just such a strange thing to say. The man in the video has been not identified or charged. A similar attempted back in august after Surveillance Video showed him grabbing a young boy here and tried to lead him out the stores back exit. The boys father confronted the man. 47yearold Steven Obrien took off but was arrested and charged with kidnapping. A hitandrun driver nearly runs over a little girl. The crash killed the family dog and left the other family pet wearing a neck brace. It would have made a big difference.
