And im vanessa welch. As weve been reporting all week early forecast models show the potential for matthew impact our entire coast, including our area. Lets get right over to chief meteorologist kevin lemanowicz. Kevin. Yeah, this time of night we watch for the latest from the National Hurricane center to come in, it just came in seconds ago. Guantanamo bay was here. This one just to the east of cuba 8 00 tonight, category iv landfall from this storm as it came hurricane at last check. Swinging it up toward the carolinas, this is where it gets a little dicey because some of these computer models swing it back southward, others continuing off northward, but farther out, which brings us a little more safety and thinking. But its still several days away. Lets check out the latest observation just in. Its down to 130 Miles Per Hour hurricane, down from 140 earlier this evening. Still forecast a track into the bahamas, staying a category iv. Then a category ivle all the way up it nassau and the bahamas approaching freeport. Poe oh shreveport. Theres florida. Police intact can gear plate tonight they found the man they were looking for. Fox 25s ted daniel is live where homeowners could only watch and wait to see what happened. Ted. Vanessa, a busy and actionpacked night with the most recent development happening shortly before we came on the air. The man that theyve been looking for all night accused of shooting at two Undercover Police officers, captured over on south street, not far from where the shootout took place. It was echoing, like i said we just got in really quick. Just to avoid if there were any stray bullets. I was very nervous because it sounded that close. Reporter multiple shots on newburgh street near roslindale near belgrade avenue late this afternoon. Police say 25yearold Eric Gonzalez and another man opened fire on two undercover officers, assigned to a task force weapons. I think it originated out of a house on that street and played out on the street. We think we were down with two dealing with two dangerous individuals and were very lucky no one got hurt. Reporter the other suspect was captured shortly after the shootout, but initially rosato gonzalez got away. A massive search was launched for him in roslindale near the west roxbury line. The s. W. A. T. Team, k9 s and a state Police Helicopter circling above. Nothing like this ever reporter dozens of residents forced away for hours until the search ended before they were allowed to return to their homes. This 8yearold girl in tears because she wasnt able to check on her dad. Ive been nervous. I got here, she cry, cry. I apologized for some of them, you know, for the streets being blocked and some access being denied. But we just wanted to make sure was safe before we opened up the area. So this is belgrade avenue behind me. Where the police have blocked off that newburgh street. And they continue to block off the street at this hour because they are waiting for a search warrant for the home where the confrontation with police initially started. Thats gonna happen within the next couple of hours. As f other man arrested, they are both charged with assault with intent to kill a police officer. Reporting live in roslindale tonight, im ted daniel, fox 25 news. Landscapers break from warwick to a tragic turn in wellesey today. Were told a man was working at a home this afternoon when he borrowed the canoe and took it into a pond. He fell, a coworker saw and called 911. Searching for three hours, divers pulled the 35yearold from the water. Tonight for the first time and only time, the vicepresident ial candidates faced off in a debate. It may not have had the star power of last weeks president ial faceoff between Hillary Clinton and donald trump, but senator tim kaine and governor mike pence, they both got their shots in, often speaking over each other. You are hired president and Hillary Clinton or you want to trump. I appreciate your hired, your fired thing, youve used that a whole lot and i think your running mate did a lot of predone lines. If you want the hat of society where people are respected and respect laws, you cant have somebody at the top who demeans Everybody Group that he talks about. Again, i cannot believe that governor pence will defend the insultdriven campaign that donald trump has run. If donald trump had said all the things that he said he said fraction of the insults that Hillary Clinton leveled when she said that half of our supporters were a basket of deplorables. We want to bring in our expert now, political historian and author tom wayland. Tom, thanks for joining us. Who won tonight . I think on optics pence did. But in terms of rhetorical points, i think kaine did. Overall there was a higher caliber debate tonight than there was during the first president ial debate. Both of t their moments tonight. Do you think one campaign is going to be able could capitalize on tonights debate moving forward . Probably not. And thats the problem with vicepresident ial debates, they dont really move the needle Public Relations wise, though i think kaine did a good job of linking the taxes to the trumps, dare i say patriotism, which i think really in some ways was a low blow but effective. What about pence going after him for Hillary Clinton and National Security . Right. That was his strong point, forces agreement saying that she did not renegotiate it and thus created the rise of isis, and that really hit home. I think among established republicans, that might be who are thinking of voting for hillary, that might give them pause. Did any of them hurt their running mate tonight . I think neither of them did, but in a sense both of them did because they were better than their running mates. They were the adults in the room tonight, and thats gonna be a problem. Tom, one question before you go, its been a tough week for trump, did pence help change the narrative here . Not necessarily, except that pence is saying to the establishment republicans, look, ill keep a tight rein on donald trump, if you read between the lines, i know how to push the buttons, believers of government. Donald will put forward the idea. So it was an odd kind of argument, but i think itll effective. All right, political historian and author tom wayland, thank for being with us tonight and well get more at 11 30. A lot more at 11 30. Livetweeted, donald trump praised governor pences performance at one point Kym Tim Kaine is so angry, our mike pence looks great. Kaine cant defend all those lies. The man shot the other guy because he robbed his house. Reporter the man who was killed just moved here from florida to live with his brother. He wasnt living in lawrence, hes not from lawrence. Hes not a troublesome person, so if theyre saying that he robbed somebody, hes not a troublesome person. Reporter fox 25 was there as detectives worked into the night gathering evidence. This cone here is where you can see the track go east or west. Equal probability of both. On the western fringe, thats right into florida and notice how close the storm wants to come to florida. Its been trending westward every time we get computer model runs as this continues to be looking at a landfall somewhere between miami and melbourne in florida. Lets hope that changes. But its been the trend. I dont expect much change from here on out. East and back up the coast toward the carolinas. This turn will be predicated whether or not its already been inland or not. Because you know tropical systems will weaken, get torn apart when they move inland. If it stays overnight water, it will make its turn toward the carolinas and become a category ii storm as it just passes the outer banks of north carolina, weaken to a category 1. This is what the National Hurricane center does. It sees a trend thats really turning this storm, it will walk it back, meaning the storm is coming up here and if the trend continues in the computer models, theyll walk it back a little but the more. Coming up in the next halfhour, our political historian tom way lam shows us what tonights debate means as far as the race for the white house is concerned. But for parents like stacey brady, she doesnt believe there should be any wiggle room when it comes to Patient Safety and their l its like the person that comes in, theyre not trained as a nurse so should not be acting as one. Right now these proposals are only in the public hearing stages but already the nurses have started a petition thats garnered more than 10,000 signatures, asking governor baker to stop this proposal.
