Worcester area climbing into lower 40s today. Afternoon. Temperatures will drop a bit. They could drop just low enough to see a couple more snowflakes mixing with rain or sleet mixing with rain. Anchor chaos on orange line as passengers kick out windows to escape a smoking train car. Anchor things were calmer today but all of that happened last night during the commute at morning. Catherine you talked to Boston City Council president this morning. She is not happy about this latest problem on the t. Reporter she said the time is now to make changes to bring the t up to speed and expand service. But i have heard back from a spokesman this morning from nbta saying the cause of the smoke is under investigation. Passenger safety is their top priority. But it was a panicked fill ordeal captured in cell phone video. Smoke filling orange line train as it left Back Bay Station during the evening rush. Hard to breathe and see. It was thick smoke. So it was pretty concerning. And people were coughing. And panicking. Reporter panicking because passengers say as the smoke poured in, doors would not open. Somebody smashed a window kicked it out. We all jumped out of the t through the window. Reporter as for the cause, Officials Say likely a motor open because the train was moving. And did not want passengers to fall on to third rail. This is just latest problem for a Transit System burdened with aging infrastructure. We are beyond the point of urgency for needing to do something not just to fix the rains and get to our current capacity but to expand service. Reporter michele wu is president of the Boston City Council and tweeted about this last night and echos the sentiments of many residents. Too and across the state that need affordable safe transportation to get to work and family and doctor, and et cetera. Reporter t Officials Say 100 million has been spent this year on modern 9 the t with some going toward improving infrastructure and cars on orange and red line. But more changes need to happen soon. Anchor more details now, this is not first time passengers knock out windows to escape an orange line train. This is passenger video from winter. When a panel fell off an original line train and landed on tracks and train ran over it. Causing the train to grind to a halt. And caused smoke to fill state street state station. Another incident on red line operator overshot the Quincy Center station by a full car length. The sudden stop filled the station with smoke. And car doors would not open. And people on the train, and in the station smashed the windows on the train to get out. Anchor 9 05. New report released in taunton rampage revealed the sheriffs deputy that shot and killed the knifewielding suspect was justified. Fox 25 news Michael Henrich live in plymouth. Michael, the deputy that put an end to that violence spoke about reporter well three people just finished speaking with us daniel. First and foremost Rosemary Heath that husband george lost his life in that bertucci restaurant at the silver city gallery, and mall. While trying to defend a pregnant woman that was being stabbed. Second was lora creed. A nurse that was sitting with her husband, off duty Plymouth County sheriffs deputy. And rushed to assist and give medical aid to the stabbing victims in t then of course james creed himself. The sheriffs deputy that we heard from, for first time, about those moments that he said just seemed to slow down and go in slow motion when he did make the decision to fire the single round, that ended arthur darosas life and ended that blood he rampage. Hear from james, and lora, now. Through this whole thing i would never refer to myself as a hero. Always said to rosemary in george selflessly intervened within seconds without knowing what was going on. He was up. And he was wrestling with mr. Darosa before i could even react. So without george things would have been very much worse. We have talked about, you know, if something happens. You know, he helps and i run. I am sorry. But i was not leaving without him. Rosemary and lora insisting that james creed is a hero for his actions that day. And rosemary saying that after her husband george was stabbed. She stopped thinking about the atanger and inning stitactively went to her husband. If james had not acted rosemary important the three of them are to each other. Total strangers that day in may and now closest of friends. Helping each other cope with an absolutely horrific turn of events in all of their lives. The huge crowd showed up in the daylight and stayed into the night share engmemories of the four men and uplifting tales from their lives. And cousins, and their friends, all died when a wrong way driver slammed head on into their car on 495 in middleboro on monday. Their parents shared grief with lose a child. Anchor investigators still do not know why Ballantyne Burson was driving wrong way on 495. But records show she had a history of speeding and once had license suspended and she also died in the crash. Anchor a run away truck caused a lot of damage to Million Dollar home in winchester. It happened on lorranna road yesterday. House is for sale. No one inside at the time. No one was in the truck of park and rolled into the side of the garage. Anchor 25 people under arrest following a massive Drug Trafficking bust in New Hampshire. 20 of those charged in live in massachusetts. Many from lawrence. Suspects were involved in the sale of heroin across state lines. And police from massachusetts, New Hampshire, and the d. E. A. Were among those that took down the operation. And they say busts like these are vital to fighting national tomorrow night crews will begin to reroute traffic around the mass pike tolls. And state wants everyone to be prepared. Beginning friday night like we mentioned. 23 crews from boston, to the new york border will be working simultaneously to dismantle toll booths and then actually start demolition sunday. Anchor police marble head patrolling a bike woman said a man exposed himself and tried to grab her behind the tower school after 11 00 a. M. Has rattleed that quiet north shore community. Woman told police that she was walking on that section of trail. When a man wearing a mask rode up on the bike. Tried to grab her. Then exposed himself. Police say the woman immediately backed away. Began to shout for help. The suspect took off. Other people on the trail heard her calls for help. Immediately called 911. Used a police dog to search for any sign of the suspect. You think in marble head we would not have that problem but it is something happening everywhere. And you have to be concerned about it. Anchor police say that suspect was wearing a black or gray ski hat and mask that pulled up to about his nose. About 57 with thin build. And riding a mountain bike. And it lowers that feels like temperature by a couple of degrees. So we have mostly cloudy skies in boston area through the morning hours. Notice temperatures work the way into upper 40s. Riders are returning to the trains this morning after the evening commute saw passengers jumping through broken windows to escape from smoke filled cars. The scare has city leaders calling for a revamp of the old trains and rails. Catherine parrotta is live at the Back Bay Station this morn catherine . Reporter nbta said this whole incident is still under investigation. They say passengers safety remains their priority. But it did cause a panicked filled situation. Look at the cell phone video t captured everything unfolded. Smoke there in the station. Also on orange line train that was starting to leave Back Bay Station. Before 5 00 last night. Passengers said the door would not open on the train. Caused by motor over heating and doors would not open because train was moving and did not want passengers falling on to third rail. Michele wu Council President tweeted about. We spoke to her and this is what she said. This is another string of disappointments in the last year. Last two years. Time and again riders are saying forcefully we need Public Transportation. And it seems tha it more and more difficult to provide that for them. T recently announced it revamped Spending Plans with goal of spending 950 million it this year and 1. 3 billion next five years on longterm projects. One projects replacing orange line trains. And spokesman told herald some of the 101 million spent this year is on improvements to red and orange lines. Anchor new surveillance showed a man Police Believe tried to kidnap a young girl in roxbury, we have surveillance from a Convenience Store near you can see the suspect following the 13yearold girl on the way to school tuesday morning. She told police he grabbed her by the arm, covered her mouth. Middle schooler fought off the stranger. Ran away. Police are still looking for this man. He was driving a white suv. Anchor a group of dorchester residents hope the attention of state and local leaders drive out seven registered sex offenders living inside of the same building. Fox 25 news first broke the story last week. Apartment building on milton. People that live in the neighborhood spoke with senator linda forry. Uber driver and passenger were inside of this white suv when it crashed into a beacon hill home. And landed in the homes pantry. Now this morning investigators are trying to figure out how it jess, this is feet from the statehouse . Reporter yes, right in the middle of beacon hill daniel near statehouse and near charles street, cambridge street right at the top of the hill. At mirtle and grove streets. Just in the last five minutes we talked to one of the guys that lives here. He said it has a couple of units. He lives in one left of the one hit. But he said he was not here at the time. He got a phone call and came home to see t boarded up. And big mess here left behind by that suv. Now this happened 3 00 in the afternoon yesterday. There was a huge response to this area of beacon hill. And the suv crashed you can see right into the wall and ended up partially in the pantry of the home. It was an uber driver behind the wheel. And he had a passenger with him. Driver told police he was trying to turn left and another car clipped his sending it flying several witnesses say that they did see that car driving very fast right before this happened. People that live here came out to see the commotion after it happened yesterday. One woman told us it is scary to see this happen. In such an area that is so tightly packed with narrow streets. There was a car that was an suv lodged into the brick wall. We are concerned. This is a neighborhood. Lots of pedestrian. Reporter police and fire were here for several hours last night. One of the main concerns is pulling the suv out. Because they were afraid part of the building would collapse but building inspector was on scene. After a couple of hours it was deemed safe. So thats when they pulled out the suv. But of course, as you can see, a lot of work to do. Ahead of the people that live here. Probably several months left of it is all being done. But still have a lot of plans to make. As for the driver of the uber and his passenger, they were both taken to the hospital. And just to be checked out and both are okay this morning. Her family said that they were fearing the worst when an off hiding under a neighbors boat you see here. This morning 75yearold catherine lucer is being treated at the lowell hospital. At 99 pounds lucer is currently not eating but getting iv fluids in the hospital. Family saying that she will be in the hospital for some time. As a team of doctors and nurse evaluate her. You may remember i talked with Dracut Police yesterday and they told me they were urging people to check their sheds and rvs and anything on their property. Lucer was found tucked away property. She was carrying around a bowl and a spoon when she went missing. One off duty firefighter Justin George spotted the bowl. Carrying a bowl. Thats the bowl. Happened to be right down street from my house. And hopped a couple of fences and we found her. Anchor lucer suffers from parkinsons and ter lee members are at the bedside as she tries to talk and answer questions. If you mention ice cream she lifts her brow like she knew what they were talking about. Anchor family members boycotted a Memorial Service for a connecticut woman that lost at sea. This is Nathan Carmen leaving the service for his mom yesterday. No bun has seen linda since the two set sail last month. Nathan rescued off the coast of nathans father was there but lindas Three Sisters did not attend. I wish very much my whole family could have come together. To pray for my mom. Police say only way to stop the hack is shut down the phone all the way and wait few minutes before powering it back on.
