Catherine you talked to Boston City Council president this morning. She is not happy about this latest problem on the t. Reporter she said the time is now to make changes to bring the t up to speed and expand service. But i have heard back from a spokesman this morning from nbta saying the cause of the smoke is under investigation. Passenger safety is their top priority. But it was a panicked fill ordeal captured in cell phone video. Smoke filling orange line train as it left Back Bay Station during the evening rush. Hard to breathe and see. It was thick smoke. So it was pretty concerning. And people were coughing. And panicking. Reporter panicking because passengers say as the smoke poured in, doors would not open. Somebody smashed a window kicked it out. We all jumped out of the t through the window. Reporter as for the cause, Officials Say likely a motor open because the train was moving. And did not want passengers to fall on to third rail. This is just latest problem for a Transit System burdened with aging infrastructure. We are beyond the point of urgency for needing to do something not just to fix the rains and get to our current capacity but to expand service. Reporter michele wu is president of the Boston City Council and tweeted about this last night and echos the sentiments of many residents. Too and across the state that need affordable safe transportation to get to work and family and doctor, and et cetera. When a panel fell off an original line train and landed on tracks and train ran over it. Causing the train to grind to a halt. And caused smoke to fill state street state station. Another incident on red line operator overshot the Quincy Center station by a full car length. The sudden stop filled the station with smoke. And car doors would not open. And people on the train, and in the station smashed the windows on the train to get out. Anchor 9 05. And rushed to assist and give medical aid to the stabbing victims in t then of course james creed himself. The sheriffs deputy that we heard from, for first time, about those moments that he said just seemed to slow down and go in slow motion when he did make the decision to fire the single round, that ended arthur darosas life and ended that blood he rampage. Hear from james, and lora, now. Through this whole thing i would never refer to myself as a hero. Always said to rosemary in george selflessly intervened within seconds without knowing what was going on. He was up. And he was wrestling with mr. Darosa before i could even react. Uber driver and passenger were inside of this white suv when it crashed into a beacon hill home. And landed in the homes pantry. Now this morning investigators are trying to figure out how it jess, this is feet from the statehouse . Reporter yes, right in the middle of beacon hill daniel near statehouse and near charles street, cambridge street right at the top of the hill. At mirtle and grove streets. Just in the last five minutes we talked to one of the guys that lives here. He said it has a couple of units. He lives in one left of the one hit. But he said he was not here at the time. He got a phone call and came home to see t boarded up. And big mess here left behind by that suv. Now this happened 3 00 in the afternoon yesterday. There was a huge response to this area of beacon hill. And the suv crashed you can see right into the wall and ended up partially in the pantry of the home. It was an uber driver behind the wheel. And he had a passenger with him. Driver told police he was trying to turn left and another car clipped his sending it flying several witnesses say that they did see that car driving very fast right before this happened. People that live here came out to see the commotion after it happened yesterday. One woman told us it is scary to see this happen. In such an area that is so tightly packed with narrow streets. There was a car that was an suv lodged into the brick wall. We are concerned. This is a neighborhood. Lots of pedestrian. Reporter police and fire were here for several hours last night. One of the main concerns is pulling the suv out. Because they were afraid part of the building would collapse but building inspector was on scene. After a couple of hours it was deemed safe. So thats when they pulled out the suv. But of course, as you can see, a lot of work to do. Ahead of the people that live here. Probably several months left of it is all being done. But still have a lot of plans to make. As for the driver of the uber and his passenger, they were both taken to the hospital. And just to be checked out and both are okay this morning.
