Now, the state department of Health Confirms Central Florida has its first case of zika virus in Osceola County. The department of health is updating the website each day of any confirmed cases. There are 14 in the state with Miamidade County having the highest number of cases at five. Osceola county officials plan to put out traps and monitor the mosquito population closely. Reporter courthouse sources tell me that watson was discussing his charges with other inmates on their way to the courthouse on wednesday, when the trial was supposed to start. When the inmates heard about watsons charges involving exposing himself around children, the inmates reacted by physically attacking him. We have heard that head butting might have been involved. As we told you at 4 00, a High School Student has come down with whooping cough which is preventible. Channel 9s mark price have been following the story. Have any other children gotten sick . Reporter School Officials say no other students who attend the high school here have come down with whooping cough symptoms. But they say this is so serious that once they found out there was a student infected, they immediately took precautions. I heard about it but i dont know the kids. Reporter students say alert that School Officials sent out to parents, warning them about a student that showed up to school with a contagious disease. One of the students has been diagnosed with a respiratory diseases known as disease known as whooping cough. Reporter a letter was sent out like this to parent to 250 students who may have come in contact with the sick student. They explain, your child may have been exposed. It also explains it is a very contagious disease. A vaccine is available. And if your child hasnt been vaccinated or updated their shots, they need to go see a doctor. Reporter we asked how the this was a case of the student not being vaccinated. But School Officials are not sure how he got it and he has not been back to school since. Theres new Research Showing that teenagers may be vulnerable to whooping cough. A study published in the journal of pediatrics shows that the latest vaccine is effective for only a year and provides little immunity after two or three years. There has been a rise in the number of cases since the weaker vaccine was introduced back in the 90s. The cdc says in 2012, there were 48,000 cases and 20 deaths. A toddlers body was he showed no emotion walking into the courtroom today. An Orange County deputy says he has proposed an idea to create a special unit for prostitution. This vice unit wouldnt just be working the trail and other high traffic area, this would be along the tourist area. He said on any given day you can see dozens of prostitutes here waiting to meet up along this busy road, at hotels, restaurants and parking lots. Its an issue that he says for law enforcement. But when you look at the crimes along i drive on the sheriffs see that the deputies are mostly responding to thefts and burglaries, not calls for prostitution. But some of the deputies believe there is a direct correlation between the prostitution and the uptick in crime on i drive. They say get rid of that element, and the crime here will go down. The Sheriffs Office has worked for years with new ideas along i drive when it comes to crime. The latest was a grant for 7 new deputies on the tourist strip. An Orange County teacher is working with students despite allegations of hitting students in the past. She is even accused of damaging dental work by pulling a lollipop out of a students mouth. We asked why she is on the job and why it has taken years to take any action on her teaching certificate. Reporter according to this state complaint, the lollipop incident happened three years ago. Have any discipline on her state certificate. She has worked with the Public Schools for 15 years, despite some terrible accusations. This administrative complaint accuses her of hitting students. It also says she forcefully pulled the lollipop out of a 12 yearolds mouth, damaging dental work. They dont have the patience to work with kids. Reporter the district suspended her for four days but the department of education has not taken any action against her teaching certificate. The negotiations failed so now she is taking the case to court. As long as theyre handling it, its all right. Reporter we called and e mailed her and stopped by her house. But we have still not heard from her. We asked district officials why she was only suspended after the lollipop and hitting allegation surfaced but they told me they do not comment on personnel issue.
