Winds. So we are now down to a Tropical Storm. You would expect that as it makes landfall, it did so, of course, last night as an 80 mileperhour storm. This is the track as it heads away from us. As it continues to do so, our weather is getting worse because of the outer rain bands. Well get to it at friday at 1 30. Ten years we went without a landfalling hurricane. There it was at st. Marks. That drought is over, and we take a look at the rainful that continues here with pockets of embedded lightning as well. Frequent lightning, in fact, doing a little better in hillsborough and pasco as well. Hernando and citrus, you are not out of the woods as we get the streams of moisture basically what we call in the hurricanes, a theater band, right . We had one with major impacts across the other and now were patch. What do we have to our west . A gulf of mexico. So its unlimited moisture here. So long as this band sets up here, and it has done so for now, it will continue to rain pockets. Tropical downpours, and these have the lightning as well, but very gusty winds embedded in them. So were talking 40, 50 mile perhour winds. That could put down trees and Power Outages that weve been talking about here. This is an ongoing event. Were still under storm warning and with good reason. The gusts have been 35 to 40. In the st. Pete airport as well, gusting over 50 Miles Per Hour at this hour. So breaking it down for you, heavy rain continues. Windy today. The coastal flooding, of course, has to do with the times of high tide. Weve already passed that and now were getting towards low tide. Some better news there, but its too late. Damage has been done and its out of citrus. Crystal river getting big damage. Gusts at 40 and higher at the coast. Were hoping for the rain band that moves a little farther south money i dont see that happening for now. So were going to continue with big problems. Of course, you dont have to be on the roads. My goodness, i know folks have to get to work. Take it easy out there. It is not just windy, but its pouring with very limited visibility. Were watching flooding and crashes. I posted on twitter at tampa bay traffic. Were also following this big crash here on i275 southbound just after bush. This is our camera thats situated right at bird street. You can see only one lane getting by. We have new information. Fhp says this involves an 18 wheeler carrying some u. S. Mail. You have to have that off to the side. Just avoid southbound 275 if you can see the backup starts right around bush. Definitely avoid this area. The sunshine sky way is closed. You have to take the long way around so leave enough time to make that detour. Dan . In pasco county, rescuers are heading into flood waters. Marisela burgos is there live as they rescue families from the flooded homes. Reporter that 12 people in this neighborhood needed to be rescued from their homes. You can tell how high this water is. You can see the intersection at aurora and massachusetts. There is a lot of flood water that is covering this entire intersection. Its incredible to see the rescue teams coming out here trying to help the families here earlier. They did transport some people out probably 30 minutes ago. The rescues have been happening there were about so far 25 people in pasco county that have been rescued from their homes. Particularly earlier today, it was in the green bay and hudson beach areas. So now they are looking here. At least we know there was a family that was rescued from their home. As soon as we get more information, whether more rescues are going to happen, well bring that back to you. Marisela burgos reporting live, abc action news. Thank you, marisela. Also near new port richey, the cody river started pouring over its banks. River gauges are 2 feet higher than usual. There are a lot of homes and loulying areas there. Folks are no doubt waiting for today. Remember just 6 inches of water can stall out most cars. A little more 18 to 24 inches can actually move your car off the road. Its difficult to tell, by the way, how deep water is before you drive in to it. Remember the slogan, turn around, dont drown. We take tout big bend area where hermine made landfall around 1 30 this morning. Thousands of families are now without power. Thats where Michael Paluska is in the capital city right now. Reporter we know that 60 of tallahassee doesnt have power. This side of the street if you look, you can see the street lights over there excuse me, just down excuse me. Thats what happens when you have been talking all night. Im going to shoot down this way towards the end of that street where you see the flashing red light. If you look to the right side, this is completely out. So its sporadic at best. We are seeing for the first officers cruising the area. Were not able to get a broad stroke at this point of how bad the damage was. We know weve been following the reports and weve seen a lot of trees on houses and limbs in the roadways. Thats knocked out a ton of power. For the first time, First Responders are getting out, surveying the area and getting a feel for what they are up against. We were here overnight. I dont know if we have that video that show you how bad it was. It was unbelievable at 1 30 when hermine came and made landfall. You mentioned st. Marks. We were getting inundated with rain. If wasnt a band. It was just a constant stream of heavy winds. It lasted for maybe an hour, hour and a half. Luckily, maybe we were spared a little bit because we took refuge in the parking garage. Ot its the best place to go live because there is an overhang where we can get out of the way. It was intense and luckily, we were able to stay out of the storm. We heard a lot of booms, trees falling, limbsracking, an transformers blowing as well. Once we get a perspective from the air of how bad this was and what the storm surge was by the coast, well know how many people were affected. We know there were a lot of people without power and who had a very, very terrifying night in the panhandle as we did for that hour and a half when the winds were rocking you Michael Paluska, abc action newsp. Thanks, michael. My brother is a lieutenant with the tallahassee fire department, and he told me they are getting call after call of structure collapse, which means a tree fell onto a house. You heard them mention the Power Outages up there. Power outages. Pinellas county taking it on the chin, too. 3700 without power in central Pinellas County. Quick check on peco energy, and they are reporting even more Power Outages than we reported a half hour ago. The number of customers without power mostly in Hillsborough County up to 17,500. In addition to our crews in the field, were getting aoo outages. We want to show you the videos and photos you are sending us. This was sent to us by claudia morales. I know it may be hard to see. I will try to widen it out for you. Keep liking. That is a bicycle. You see the water up to the tires right there. This is at the sponge dock. King. The road is closed right now. This was taken at 1 30 this morning. And one more photo we want to show you. This one here was sent to us. This is an apartment complex in cedar key. At 5 40, a tree tore a mobile home in half while a child was inside. Five adults also were inside when the rains came through. Everyone made it out okay. It was like slow motion. We saw the ceiling come down. Living room, his daughter was in the far room. The way the tree fell, we were inches and they werent of course the only ones suffering damage. Trees came down on several homes and vehicles. Code enforcement and emergency officials are out inspecting all of that damage. All right, an ongoing event of hermine of course. It made landfall and is losing its intensity because of the winds. We one of its arms is still water and its got an indefinite supply of moisture in the gulf of mexico. That is what is setting up this morning to be our event for very heavy rainfall moving over the same area. Lightning and wind gusts in excess of 50 miles per ho were not forgetting you at polk county. Its not just a coastal situation here. This is where we are finding little farther east. Look at palm harbor getting clocked with very heavy rain and frequent lightning as well. Widen out the shot so we can see the feeder band coming from the south and west. When we come back, well take to you Citrus County as well with cars and water over the hood. That is an ongoing event. Ill have the latest on the forecast coming up. You are watching continuous coverage on abc action news. Im a coupon guy. I signed up for the publix digital ones. I clip the paper ones. In fact if there was a third kind, id probably love those too. Thats how i save at publix. How bout you . So this is weekend me. She makes lists with the weekly ad. But then there is weekday me, no time for anything. Has tons of bogos. Thats how i save at publix. How bout you . It is 15 minutes until 6 00 right w. Weve been watching strong storms come down throughout the morning. At one point it was so loud, you could barely hear yourself. Yeah, and in fact, normally you could expect the system to weaken, of course, as it makes landll. It is doing that. The problem is e of feeder bands is still stuck on us here. Well talk about that a lot this morning in just a second here. Theres the latest track, 70 mileperh conditions improving closer to the center, right, and for us going in the other direction as far as the heaviest of the impacts eventually headingup to the northeast there. Well talk about these feeder bands as they continue to come in. Its one in particular that is training right on top of us here. The tornado watch continues to get smaller and smaller. As the threat diminishes, not the day. Embedded lightning as well in portions of pinellas and citrus where its not raining as heavily. The problem is that we continue here with some very heavy rainfall that is moving in from the gulf, right . As long as that happens, look at this. You can widen out and you able to see this. This is as far as the radar go. All of this has to push through here, and eadily direction. Eventually it will. For now its not doing that so were going with the heavy rain over the same areas. Well get some lulls and get through it on and off throughout the day. That is whats transfiring here as we continue to see rainfall rates up to 1 to 3 inches. The winds have also been an issue. Weve had the Tropical Storm Miles Per Hour, which is the threshold for a Tropical Storm. Not st along the coast, but now we have the bands that extend farther inland. You are going to get gusty winds in excess of 30, 40, 50ho its going to happen over and over throughout the morning and into the midday. Early coastal flooding. That has been one of the biggest issues that weve had. Of course we had a high tide yesterday. We had coastal flooding and overnight. The water is obviously flowing u. S. 19 is shut down between homasassa to Crystal River because of the flooding. Forget going west anywhere off of u. S. 19. Peoples homes are flooded up to 6 to 7 feet of water. Headsup, if you are coming out this this dont walk in the water. Ive already seen at least a 2 foot snake slithering through here. We had reports of alligators like this. Keep in mind if you are out and you are driving, it is incredibly dark out here. There are major intersections without power. My photographer and i saw downed power lines at a major intersection and there was nobody there to warn us there were down power lines. So keep that in mind. Unless you need to be out, stay inside. At least until the sun comes out, you can get out and assess the damage in and around your homes. For bill logan, back to you. Thanks souc along with the standing water, we have the tornado threats through citrus and hernando and pasco yountys.
