As the storm ripped through hollywood, the rain was heavy and the wind intense. Those punishing winds knocked two trees on this trailer at 58 58th and arthur. Out of nowhere i heard a huge crash. Neighbors in their trailer. He raced to get them out. The trailer is history. She was in the front. The husband must have been in the bathroom or the back. All i know is she was screaming and crying. Reporter he couldnt open the door so he had to break a spot in the wall that was breached. Her husband and i were able to push it away and we had to carry her out. Reporter another couple trees fell down the street it. I looked out and it just started swirling. A couple of my plants flew. Then it went boom, boom no time flat, boom the tree went down. Then this one went down. Reporter its not easy to see but under the branches there is a car. This tree fell on it while a father and his two children were driving. They were lucky and got out unscathed. Joining me live is william manning. William and his wife were inside the trailer. It happened early this morning. We heard a loud crash. So we had no warning. When i turned around the roof was collapsed on top of my wife and the tree was on top of the roof. I had to use myself as a jack to drag her to safety. We couldnt open the doors so we had to go through a hole in the side of the wall. Reporter fortunately both of you are okay, just back from the hospital and it looks like things are okay. Appreciate it. Quite a story for him to tell. There are stories like that all over south florida today. Gabby. Reporter ted, we are actually on i95 right now between Miami Gardens drive. They just opened the interstate here a couple minutes ago. Traffic is starting to flow. Take a look at the mess left behind. Crews were here for hours cleaning overturned trees. Look at the sign on the floor. And went airborne and flew across the road and ended up from the south bound to the north bound side. A semi truck flipped on its side, trees uprooted and snapped, debris littered across the interstate. It was basically like the twister movie. Reporter a possible tornado touching down in northeast miami dade carving a path of destruction during rush hour. The wind was spinning really fast. It was cloudy. There was debris and trees and branches and leaves in the air swirling around. Reporter severe winds swept debris and sent everything airborne. A road sign was ripped in half and smashed down on davids car while he drove to work. Something like a metal sign just slashed and hit the front of my car and shattered the window. Reporter the wild weather peeled the top off of this 18 wheeler. The wind and everything was truck moving i knew what was going to happen. The wind took the truck and side. Reporter damage bringing i95 to a stand still. The highway was shut down for clean up but fortunately, no major injuries. Incredible inconvenience it is costing drivers. We ask them to have patience because we are doing everything we can to open the roads as quick as possible. Reporter crews are working to repair one of the loose road signs to be sure it doesnt fall on anyones car. As they make repairs, the express lane for south bound i95 remains shut down but for now all north bound lanes have reopened on i95. Live from northeast miami dade, gabby fleishman. Thank you. What have you been able to find . Reporter as gabby referenced a lot of clean ups are going on. Hundreds of trees or down or damaged like the one behind me at northeast miami dade. We are live on 195th street Near Northeast 10th avenue. All of this is causing significant traffic problems. A striking sight in the skies over north miami dade. Bands of rain are swirling as strong winds pummel trees. One man is treated inside his home for injuries because of flying debris. There are also dramatic images of Miami Gardens where a power line knocked down by the storm sparks a shed fire. Oh my god, i heard it. I called my son and said it must be a tornado. I have never heard this before reporter strong winds throughout northeast miami dade took down trees in neighborhood like this one at northeast 197 197th street and 13th place. Really scary, you know. It was like 8 00 and i was sleeping. I heard my phone, the alert. I went to the window and i saw the tree over there blowing away. I heard a loud bang and i go to check on our patio, our sliding door, and i see everything falling apart. The house behind us, their reporter that was just a sample of some of the damage to trees. This is 193rd street and first avenue where the National Weather service, we are told, will be out to survey the area, survey the damage and determine if a tornado is indeed what caused all this damage we have been showing you. Chopper 4 is panning over rather quickly but you see how many fences were toppled up. Be done. The storm damage sparked this fire from chopper 4. You can see a gas line break bubbling up. The fire crews were on scene to put out the flames. We now take things inside to get a closer look at the storms. This all happened so quickly. It did and we were live warning everyone when the Tornado Warnings were issued. I was just reaching to the National Weather service meteorologists. Indeed the survey crews are out there and they will analyze the confirm if indeed these were tornadoes. Right now thankfully the radar is quiet in broward, dade, even down through the keys. The line of storms is well offshore. As we take a look back at what happened this morning, the first Tornado Warning was at 7 13 am for a severe thunderstorm through Pompano Beach. There you see the severe storm reports, the red right there. Those two are indicating possible tornadoes touching down near Pompano Beach and damaging gusty winds indicated by the blue, were you are seeing the circles and blue thats indicating where hail may have impacted areas. Later we had another Tornado Warning for portions of northeast miami dade and southeast broward county, Miami Gardens, sun life stadium, north miami. We had multiple tornado reports and also multiple reports of damaging gusty winds as we approached the 8 00 am hour. Some of the peak gusts so far ranging from 25 to even up to 60 Miles Per Hour with some of the strongest storms. Checking on some of the highest rainfall totals, in sunrise we picked up over two inches, an inch and 3 4 oakland park and university. Winds were gusting from 26 to currently the sustained winds have settled down anywhere from three to seven Miles Per Hour out of the west northwest indicating that the front is on the way. We are seeing the comfortable low 70s across the board in broward and dade, 75 in key west. Later this afternoon we should start to see a bit more 80s. All morning long we were talking about tornadoes that developed across the southeast and the rest of the state and strong to severe storms were headed in our direction. Hopefully everyone heeded our advice to stay inside and wait it out because the storms caused damage and possibly some tornadoes. We are waiting on confirmation from our friends and meteorologists at the National Weather service. The survey crews will be analyzing the damage and based on what they see and assess know if those were tornadoes around Pompano Beach, Miami Gardens. In a live view from biscayne bay, we are just seeing some clouds. Earlier this morning it was black at one point and we couldnt see a thing. Visibility was that low due to the storms. This is the current radar view. You wouldnt know that this morning was so active and stormy because all of the storms are now well offshore and to our south and east. That line of storms really packed a punch and impacted our friends across central and southwest florida. They were under a tornado watch as well. This is a look at the radar starting at 7 00 am through now. You can see it is a squall line almost and embedded within winds, torrential downpours, dangerous lightning. As we take a look back armed 7 15 when the first tornado Pompano Beach, eastern broward county, yes indeed we had we have to wait on confirmation for that. Also damaging gusty winds around there, plantation, near hollywood, pen broke pines, sun life stadium. A we look at the storm reports later around 7 56 am when the second Tornado Warning was issued, this is the radar and strong to severe storms that swept across Miami Gardens. The wind gusts were from 25 to 60 Miles Per Hour. Today thankfully the winds have calmed down and are light from 3 to 7 Miles Per Hour. Temperatures are mild in the low 70s. 73 in broward and dade, 75 in key west. Here is the reason for the line of storms. We had this frontal boundary, winds in mid to upper levels at the west and at the surface, at the south and then we get rotation that can occur with the cells that develop. Water vapor imagery showing the behind it is lots of red indicating dry air. For the rest of the day, we are looking mainly rain free even through tonight. Tomorrow, plenty sunshine and not as warm. We have a weak cold front that will roll through. By friday we will wake up to comfortable temperatures, pleasant sunshine, in the providing a nice weekend. We will see the highs climbing clearing. It is not a good day for boating obviously as a Small Craft Advisory is in place. The highs for the rest of the week, 70s.
