Draft in Nashville and I think that if you were to stack up teams that got the most coverage teams that got the most criticism teams that were looked at as maybe making mistakes the New York Giants probably go to the top of that list the Giants making the move to draft Daniel Jones they go to the top of the list a team that very questionable what was the idea behind it you know or why him how did you really feel that he was that good I mean or is this a reach and so there is some of that out there in the Giants are getting their criticism they got after the 1st day and so Dave Gettleman and the comments he made and he may have mistaken a conference and all the other stuff like there's a lot of that going around and my whole thing on the Giants is I understand why it is they made the move that they made the Giants identify the guy that they wanted if it means reaching form and then you reach form but the Giants said that's the best quarterback on the draft that's the player we want He's highest on my draft board I'm not going to criticize them I'm just not. I'm not going to do it in real time I'm going to wait this thing out maybe that's not the right thing to do in sports radio but I'm not going to criticize Dave Gettleman and I'm like I'm not going to smash the Giants just because they drafted a player that maybe I wouldn't have taken Number 6 I'm not in their draft room I'm not in their war room I don't know what's going on there and I've got news for you neither you you have no idea whether or not Danny Jones going to work out as a quarterback you just don't know. So many of these draft picks the majority of these guys don't work out if Daniel Jones doesn't work out it's not a referendum on Dave Gettleman as an evaluator people miss all the time people with all the time so if the Giants miss on this they miss on it but I'm not going to look at this draft as as a bust in how why do you take Dan to Jones there if they believe he's the dude you go and get your guy that's it and my point I was making earlier it's driving a long way is don't wait to get gas if you see a gas station and you're coming up on empty stop and fill up don't run the risk that you stranded the Giants in when the run the risk that they were going to get stranded in the draft and lose out on the quarterback that they had ranked higher than everybody else I mean it is it's a possessor quarterback draft class it really is if you want to think about it last year's draft class all the quarterbacks that came out they were all pretty high up on everybody's draft board you can make the case and I don't think this is a stretch you can make the case that Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones and to Wayne Haskins were selected where they were based on the teams that were there and what I mean by that is if the Arizona Cardinals weren't picking number one overall do you think Kyle Emery still goes number one overall because I don't and in fact I think he drops if the Giants weren't picking 6 overall Where's Daniel Jones going. Maybe 17 but they don't want to wait around if the Wayne Haskins doesn't go 15 to the Redskins how far does he fall I think those teams liked those players way more than anybody else did and because of that that's why they were taken where they were so it's a draft class it's why look we haven't had a bust in the 1st round of the draft when it comes to quarterback and a long time the last guy was Paxson Lynch I mean just think about it in all that everything that's gone on in the draft I think Jay missed Winston's going to have a big year I think Jay was going to be a good quarterback and have a big year for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers I don't think he's a bust Marcus Mariota is teetering on bust this is a huge year for Mariota It's why they brought in Ryan Tannehill to Tennessee they want to see what they got with him you go to the next year Carson once he's not a bust Jared God he's not a bust what about the year after that. He's not above us they were in the playoffs to Schott Watson isn't a bust Patrick My home's sure as hell isn't a bust does Baker Mayfield look like a bust to Sam Donald looked like a bust Lamar Jackson was in the playoffs does he seem like a boss what about Josh Allen put up the had some pretty good games jury still out on Josh Rosen So the only guy in recent years that's been a bust in the 1st trying is Paxton Lynch who was drafted late in the 1st round in the one scoffed draft so it just makes me wonder if we're not do if maybe one of these guys or 2 of these guys or maybe all 3 just don't end up working out. And so while I don't criticize the Giants for. Taking Daniel Jones because that's a guy that they like there are some people who want to go back in time and play this game there are people out there who are criticizing the Giants because they passed on Sam Donald last year and they're adding Daniel Jones this year and let's just say that the Giants are acknowledging that we made a mistake right we should have taken Sandon let's just say it if anything I give him credit for adjusting to it immediately and trying to correct what may be a mistake like you may not like Arizona trading a guy they just drafted a year ago and then taken another quarterback but if they feel like they made a mistake squash it and get it done with it made it a I screwed up we screwed up here so if anything I give the Giants credit for identifying we should have done something a year ago at the quarterback position we didn't do it you know what we're not making that same mistake again we still like Daniel Jones a lot and we're going to go take him like if this is an admission of a team that screwed something up a year ago then I give him credit for it I actually do because I think sometimes we get so committed to our idea that we have a tendency to hold on to that idea all the way up until the very end. You know he can't fall in love with these guys Danny Ainge always tells a story talking to read our back who ran the Celtics for years and years and years and Danny Ainge remembers having a conversation with Red our back and this story was told at a Christmas party and read our back said I regret not getting rid of Larry Bird Kevin McHale Robert Parish when I should I held onto him too long because I was so loyal and I was so committed to him that I could have got something in the franchise would've gone into that 20 year drought that they went into you know he just as much as you know he loved them and he loved that they played majority of their careers with the Celtics all of them except Robert Parish you know he said look I just part of me wishes I would have not been so tied to it and so connected and felt so strongly about it because I just couldn't part with those guys you know like it's hard for these organizations people in the front office to admit you know hey the end is near it's time to move on you know at least the Giants are kind of doing that they're saying Man maybe we made a mistake last year we probably should have taken Sam Donald you know yet the end is near where you know what we're not going to make that mistake again we're going to get our guy now and you know what they did the same thing with Odell back I'm They did the same thing with other with other parts of the roster at times they traded Odell back and after they signed him to a deal I give them credit they got a 1st round pick back. And they acknowledged even after signing him that was a mistake we're not close to winning having that much money tied up into a wide receiver it just doesn't make sense fiscally So let's move on let's let's just move on and so they did and they traded Odell back they weren't they weren't loyal to the deal itself they realize we got to make the move snacks Harrison was a guy a year ago I knew the Giants and I actually think this is a real thing. I thought the past couple of years I like the Giants to win the n.f.c. East I thought the Giants were the team to beat the n.f.c. East I actually picked and we do our pick segment every August we're going around picking division winners I actually pick the Giants I think a couple of years in a row I thought this team's going to win the division and that was all based off that one season the one season where the Giants went to the postseason and lost of the Packers that opening round that was the Odell back I'm on the yacht in Miami week that whole fiasco I think the Giants did exactly what I did I think the Giants overrated themselves I think they overrated the roster and I think they thought they were closer to being a championship caliber team than they actually were they got fooled by one year they got fooled just like I think the Raiders got fooled by one year and because of that the Giants have now acknowledged if you look at all these moves they're acknowledging we've made mistakes. We should've maybe taken a guy year ago when it came to backing up and looking towards a future after you lie Manning we made a mistake our bad let's correct the mistake trading away snacks Harrison a year ago a veteran player getting rid of him ever players on that defense we made a mistake we thought we were close to the competing than we actually were we are not we are going to go in a different direction trading away Odell back we made a mistake we thought we were closer to competing for a title in reality it made no sense to have all that money tied up into a wide receiver we screwed up our bad let's correct the mistake I give them credit for that. Yeah but you know Sam Donald was there and unless Dave Gettleman was dead set on best player available best player available and say Kwan was the best player available the idea of having Sam Donald you know in the same building but for the other team crosstown lighting up the league potentially for the next decade that's something that the New York Giants don't want to deal with they don't want to deal with it and so they tried to address the quarterback situation this year I have no idea and no problem at all no issue at all with them taking Daniel Jones they felt he was the best guy for the job they made the move good for them and we'll see how it works out but nobody knows these these projections these I had this grade on him Well I'm sorry your grade sucked sorry Well he he wasn't going there in my mock draft Ok I'm sorry you're mock draft sucked sorry it's not Dave get a problem somebody else's problem but yours get over it. Sox Fox Sports Radio All right so this was funny the other night I was listening to Fox Sports radio's coverage of the n.f.l. Draft and I had heard this before but I didn't I didn't get the actual details of it because I think people just sort of got it got lost in the shuffle with with everything else that was going on in and one of the teams out there. That there's been a lot of discussion has been the Green Bay Packers and the thought in Green Bay was look Aaron Rodgers coming up towards the end of things. Possibly Let's bring in an office of Coach let's go that route let's try and maximize Aaron Rogers while we've got him let's keep him healthy let's build a defense around him all that makes sense but Jay Glazer while on Fox Sports Radio pointed out a sort of what if scenario a scenario that had it gone down and it was on the table to go down that would have changed things and would have made this draft and the Packers look much different so the Oakland Raiders have gotten a lot of their the team people like to pick on sometimes they don't know what they're doing they picked on their 1st pick they picked on they picked on the m.r.e. Cooper trade and they especially people have picked on the cologne Mack trade Jon Gruden saying during the year you know we need more out of our pass rushers where you had one in the offseason maybe the best guy in the league and you decided to trade him so we don't really understand and so because of that the Raiders took a lot of a lot of bashing for the trade. I don't know if the Raiders have made any mistakes with these moves I don't know we can look at Cologne Max production and we can say yeah he made a mistake or they made a mistake but for the amount of money he's getting paid it's really your prerogative as to whether or not you think that's worth putting that much money into a player who does what does there are teams out there who are willing to do that the Bears being one of them the Raiders are in a different situation Jon Gruden felt differently so I don't know if the Raiders have made any mistakes with these moves I still think we've got to wait and see but I do know that they definitely made one mistake with their strategy behind the moves. Jay Glazer talked about this on Fox Sports radio during the draft and he said The ironic thing about the 1st round of the draft is we're talking about all the picks the Raiders have and the Raiders had the number 4 pick but they also had 2 picks in the late twenty's and those 2 picks were acquired one from the Bears for Colo Mack and the other from the Cowboys for Mari Cooper he says The ironic thing is they had a better offer on the table the Raiders had an offer from the Green Bay Packers for the Packers to 1st round picks this year those picks turned out to be $12.21. That was an offer and the reason the Raiders. Passed or declined the trade with the Green Bay Packers is because they felt the bears were going to be a worse team than Green Bay and that the Bears would have had worse 1st round picks in a worst 1st round pick than Green Bay would. You couldn't criticize the move you can compliment the move but the strategy behind the move that's where the Raiders made a mistake and and I I think I probably would have done the same thing at the time because I thought the Packers were going to be better than the Bears but when that pick continued to look worse and worse the more the Bears kept winning games and going to the playoffs you know Jon Gruden had to be sit around going Damn I coulda had both Green Bay's number one and our number one they would have had better better players both Green Bay's number one was better than the 2 that the Raiders got at the back of the draft now whether the Bears would have been picking that high gosh probably not with the amount what Kalu mac did but they were still a decent team so it wasn't the issue when everybody thinks it was the Bears still had a top 10 defense without clothes back. Had anybody drafted in the 1st 2 days 3 full rounds I think Texas went the 1st 2 days with no one take it either so once again when we get to those high school recruiting shows and websites and know this is a such and such right class it's kind of like what you were saying about some of the draft choices let's just hold off a little bit on all that I just and I know that even more so with high schoolers there just doesn't feel and look the not having the Pac 12 Network and so many homes to where people can't watch a game including Well cities I just think I think it's such an under reported story because it's out here in the West Coast and we live it and wear around it daily but the lack of buzz and quality teams in the Pac 12 in basketball and especially in football is shocking to me I mean there you could always pencil in a thread in the Pac 12 nationally and the only threat you had a year ago was Washington once they lost I believe is the 1st week of the season that was it then shot Washington and they've had great with the course. The former Boise State coach Chris Peterson as their head coach they've had great. Star talent recently yeah clued in draft choices but their star running back Miles Gascon was nearly Mr relevant this year yeah he was a 7th rounder to the Dolphins today u.s.c. a Decade ago had back to back drafts where they were the school with the most players take it now it's Alabama last year and this year Alabama with 10 how can the how how many players from u.s.c. Got drafted there was a linebacker I know there was one that is on him of all there's another star linebacker there that wasn't taken all still out there by the way University of Buffalo quarterback Tyree Jackson one of the Q B's that was not taken this week he reportedly will sign with the Buffalo Bills guys like Mississippi state's Nick Fitzgerald and others quarterbacks that are completely undrafted Penn State's trace McSorley was taken 6th round by the Baltimore Ravens who added a quarterback and the much travelled q.b.
