Spouts, thats right, at least two of them right there as they moved right over lake pontchartrain. This was at the exact time the Tornado Warning was issued for parts of louisiana. And now similar spouts were spotted over the Mississippi River as well. Now that same line of storms is now moving across florida. Heres a look at the storm team 8 max radar right there. We should start seeing some rain in about an hour. And meteorologist leigh spann is joining us now with a look at whats headed our way. It looks serious. Yeah, and thankfully for us, the worst weather is going to stay to the north. The most significant widespread Severe Weather outbreak will head through georgia, South Carolina and up into north carolina. But we have this trailing cold front and thats why citrus, hernando, pasco, sumpter, you remain under the tornado watch until 10 00 this morning. A watch means conditions are setting up that we could see strong thunderstorms. Not that theyre occurring. In fact, as you see right now, its not even raining in these let me time this out for you. This is a forecast for a half hour from now. Were still quite dry. And now forward until about 7 00 a. M. Where we could start to see the first few showers in citrus, hernando and pasco. And then about 8 00, now this is when things start to get more widespread as far as the rain is concerned and. We could even see it get farther south into the hillsborough and Pinellas County communities. Still seeing rain in hernando and citrus. For hernando and citrus, your rain coming to an end about 10 00 this morning. And st. Petersburg, tampa, across i4, lakeland, northern polk county, thats about mid morning through early and thats why im advising some of you to take your lunch to work so you dont have to get out in this mess. Afternoon and evening. Quite cooler. So by the afternoon, the storms and now coming up in weather and traffic on the 8s at 5 38, when these storms roll through, threat to be most concerned but we need to take this very seriously because of the history of this storm. Lindsey mastis now joinses from the Tampa News Center with what is left behind to the north and west. Reporter yeah, sadly the storms proved deadly and now the destruction spans four states. In louisiana, two people are dead after the storm passed through a mobile home park. The states governor believes several people are still missing. Tornado thes also touched down in mississippi, alabama and here in florida. Cars upside down. Homes are crushed. An 18wheeler got tossed. Roofs were ripped off. Survivors describe a heroing experience. All it was, we hear a loud noise. And the wind looked like it come down and went up. You know, funniest thing i ever saw. You hear a lot of whirling wind. Thats all. The house started shaking. Reporter the governors of louisiana and mississippi are declaring states of emergency. And here in florida, several panhandle are canceling classes as storms roll through. More storms are expected including in states already hit hard. A lot of cleanup happening today, leigh. Its windy anywhere and then on the elevated bridges, especially across the skyway bridge. Fhp has issued a wind advisory. You can see traffic is still getting by. Its open but use caution you move across it. And lets go back to the maps as i zoom in here. A collision wrapping up here, fowler avenue at river hills driver. Be aware of that. And lakeland, i4 right at kathleen road, again the roads are dry and traffic looks very good but we are expecting that to change as the weather changes. In breaking news this morning, crews in nepal are combing through the charred wreckage of a small plane that crashed into the mountains there. 23 people were onboard when it went down during a scheduled 18 minute flight. A Police Official reports the plane slammed directly into the mountain. Right now, investigators dont know the cause of the crash but they arent ruling out bad weather. And they dont believe there are any survivors. 8 on your side will continue pressing several agencies today about wrongway dangers. You have to see this incredible and terrifying video again. Look at this. The driver is going the wrong way for miles. News channel 8s Adrienne Pedersen is joining us now live from i275. So adrienne, unfortunately, we report on these stories all the the video. Thats right. And its so scary because how do you even have time to react and a car jumps on here and to i275 . You would never even see that coming. Lets take a look at this unbelievable video again. According to deputies, thats 21yearold ryan flurry driving the wrong way on i75 in Sarasota County for six miles. He even almost hits a deputy. And not shocking here though, he was drunk. And according to the sheriffs office, his blood alcohol level limit. Amazingly, nobody was hurt. And now unfortunately, this one, lets take a look at this next piece of video, was a deadly crash. You remember this happened at the ashley exit in tampa earlier this month. Two drivers killed, one of them going the wrong way. We covered this extensively when it happened as breaking news right here on news channel 8 today. As for flurry, the guy going the wrong way in sarasota, i just checked and he is out on bond. Now lets take a look at this wrongway sign right here. This is the exit ramp to 275. And now if a car gets on here going the wrong way, that sign will start flashing. This is part of a pilot program. Fdot proms that they are monitoring these signs, checking to see if theyre working to decide if they should roll out more. So gayle, we will check on that again and let you know what they have to the say. You know, and you cant only point the finger at drunk driver, this is happening to every day people. It gets really confusing on the roadways so hopefully something will be done to stop this dangerous trend. Thank you, adrienne. More disturbing this morning. This one of a fedex truck all over the road. You see the driver here. The guy who shot the cellphone video says the driver was asleep bethe wheel. You can see the truck going over the median and right up against oncoming traffic there. And the other driver that recorded the video on ehrlich road in Hillsborough County got the fedex guy to pull over eventually. And thats when deputies chatted with the guy. But they couldnt charge him with anything because the keys werent in ignition and they never saw him driving. We can see him driving in this wild video. By the way, we did reach out to fedex after this incident and they gave 8 on your side the following statement, quote, safety is our highest priority at fedex. We are cooperating with the investigating authorities in determining what caused this incident and will take the appropriate action once the investigation has concluded. And pretty wild weather headed our way. Thats right. Its 5 38 now. At this point, no rain on the radar but its extremely windy ahead of the storm system. And when the system arrives, we have the tornado watch until 10 00 a. M. And you see that the rain is just off your shore at this point but its still dry. So let me go hour by hour and show you what to expect. At 8 00 this morning, the rain there through about 10 00 a. M. , especially for areas north of i 4. Its a 70 chance through lunchtime. And 40 through the early afternoon before things clear out. This is the graphic i think will be very helpful. You may want to check it out. Yellow shaded area, citrus, hernando, northern pinellas. Rain starts as early as 7 00 and continue until 11 00 a. M. And green shaded areas like tampa through and along i4 through western polk, eastern portion of pasco county, rain starts at 9 00 a. M. And lasts until about 1 00. And it will take it until 11 00 a. M. For places like southern polk county and Highlands County before the rain starts. And once it start, obviously heavy downpours and spotty areas of lightning. I dont think hail is a big dale but strong, damaging wind gusts in the individual storm cells is a possibility. And i kept the tornado threat at low but its kind of in the high part of the low category. And now weather and traffic on the 8s. So again, dry but windy at the moment. Very windy especially on the skyway bridge. Heres a look at the Howard Franklin. Very windy across the water. Right now, its still only going to take six minutes to cross it but use caution. And our skyway bridge, folk, fhp has issued a wind advisory, so extra windy. Its scary enough going over the skyway bridge as it is when its not windy. Six minutes on the Howard Franklin. Four minutes on the gandy. Seven minutes to cross the Courtney Campbell causeway. And no delays on the little bayside bridge either. Thats a look at weather and traffic on the 8s. The latest, a fire lieutenant and medic suspended for having a sexual relationship on duty. Yep. He is upset. He is sad. He said one incident is too many. Let alone two. I havent met anybody who condones or feels good about what has happened. Reporter both people involved in this latest incident were suspended between 15 and 30 days. A report shows they lived like a married cup and will had sex often at work. Back in 2014, a nearly two decade veteran of the department resigned after a graphic sex video of him and a woman taken inside a fire house surfaced. And now city leaders plan to improve relationships between those at the top and firefighters and paramedics including a system to watch over them. The two window washers were stuck for more than an hour at a Highrise Hotel in manhattan. They were working on the 65th floor when their scaffold stalled. Yep. Firefighters say the scaffold was stable but mechanics couldnt get it moving again. They actually had to remove a pane of glass to bring the workers inside to the building. Now both of them came off the rig laughing and joking and hey, at least they had a nice view of up there. New Surveillance Video of a plane crash we first told you about yesterday right here on news channel 8. You have to stop what youre doing and check this out. Surveillance video captured the crash of a plane on a small street in california. See it again there. The plane slams into a car and then look, it loses its wing. Later in the video, you can see the pilot emerge from the plane. Witnesses say this guy is lucky to be alive. He did a great job. I have given him a lot of credit for what he did here. Train tracks before crashing. Five cars were damaged but there were no reportsover injuries. Well, this one is hard to believe here. You see this little boy. This morning, he is off the hook after being sentenced to life in prison. That happened last week in egypt. And now he is only three years old. A military Court Sentenced him for various crimes he allegedly committed during a protest in 2014. That would have been when he was just 16 months old. This morning, authorities are acknowledging it was all a case of mistaken identity. We know Human Trafficking is a serious problem. Not just in the state of florida but right here in the tampa bay area. And many wonder what they can do to help. And this week theres a sex Industry Outreach Program happening in tampa. Its a threeday workshop that starts tomorrow where volunteers are trained to help people who might be trapped in the sex industry. The watch means the situation is setting up that we could see tornadoes. Obviously because its not even raining now and not happening at the moment. We will wait for these storms in the gulf of mexico to come on shore. Now this is a part of a huge storm system which has brought deadly tornadoes across the southeast. And now the area of low pressure where the most widespread Severe Weather is expected is going to head to the north and east which is why i have the bullseye of the biggest risk of Severe Weather today which is in eastern north carolina. We zoom down here to our area, a risk. But in the lighter green area, Citrus County down to polk and manatee and sarasota, strong wind, isolated tornadoes between 7 00 a. M. And now im going to break this down each hour on the weather wheel here. 6 00, just a 20 rain chance. And 30 at 7 00. And 40 at 8 00 this morning. By 10 00 this morning, its a 60 chance. So the rain is continuing to march south into the area. Most widespread rain happening around lunchtime, a 70 chance and some of the storms could be strong and then the rain chances dwindle again as it exits to the south. Heres a look at the graphic look at where the rain will be. At 8 30, storms start in northern area, citrus, hernando, pasco areas. Thats where the tornado watch is in effect. The cold front pushes the showers south. So pinellas over to polk county, your rain will start in the mid morning and last through the early afternoon. This is about 2 45. Everything exits to the south. Breezy and maybe even a few light sprinkles but after the front, the big story will be the chillier rain. At the morning commute time. Thats not good news. Lets enjoy the dry roads while we have them. We have a collision here and were seeing a little bit of a delay fowler avenue at river hills drive west of i75 in the new tampa area. And i75 looks wonderful in and out of new tampa. And lets talk about lakeland, downtown looks good and also i 4, no delays. In fact, from kissimmee, up to speed. I want to let you know, remind you here, very, very windy on the skyway bridge so use caution between manatee and Pinellas County there. Thats a look at weather and traffic on the 8s. Based on a pocket calendar, the construction crew figured out that the wallet had been buried since 1944. So the builder got to work and actually tracked down the owner.
