Today we thought it would be interesting to kind of get outside of des moines, get a little bit of the flavor of this hawk eye state, this first in the nation caucus state. Its big ag country with rolling plains, the birth place of john wayne. People are surprised to learn john wayne was an iowan. Reporter like the duke, the people like to embrace the values, john wayne values, especially in iowa. Reporter iowa is heavily associated with agriculture, for good reason. But this states economy also thrives on finance and insurance. Unemployment here is under 4 . And every four years, this small town charmer takes on a big time caucus. And the locals thrive on it. This is the heartbeat of the caucuses, des moines, where the landmark golddomed capitol is located. Iowan . Absolutely, were the best reporter while iowans savor the attention, businesses like ray gun cash in on it. Every four years we bring out our caucus merchandise. This is the time of the year. Let me show you. Weve got a helicopter flying overhead. There are dive teams on the water, searching for this boater desperately. He hasnt been seen since last night, and officials are worried he may be suicidal. Let me give you a background here. Officials tell us the boaters wife called the coast guard after she was concerned for her husband. A search began and the boat was soon found abandoned near the sand key coast guard station at gulf boulevard. It soon became an active scene. County Sheriffs Department helped out with the search, with dive teams in the water and coast guard overhead. The boater may be suicidal. This is an active search that will go on until sundown. Hillsboro county deputies are asking for your help tonight in locating two teenagers who escaped from the falconburg academy. Deputies tell us 18yearold anthony bays and 17yearold anthony cook escaped around 9 15 this morning through a hole they cut in the fence. They were last seen wearing green shirts and blue pants. Crime stoppers now offering a reward of up to 3000 for information that leads to their location and to their arrest. A clearwater man facing dui manslaughter charges, after deputies say he hit and killed a motorcyclist while driving the wrong way. Deputies tell us that kenneth southbound lanes when he hit the motorcyclist headon. This happened on county road 1 at bern ham lane and dunedin last night. The motorcyclist, john sorenson, of clearwater, later died at the hospital. Super bowl week is upon us. So is bayshore boulevard, and thats why volunteers wanted to get out as soon as possible to get things cleaned up. Pirates have a reputation for being many things, but being clean and tidy is typically not one of them. From beads in trees to plastic cups, the crowds of gasparilla left behind a pretty big mess, leaving more than enough work for the dozens of volunteers from the florida aquarium, keep tampa bay beautiful, and the city. Seeing halfeat earn turkey legs is something you dont get see a lot of feather boas, beer and bottles, typical gasparilla celebration. Reporter groups were each given a designated area of bayshore to clean up, an effort especially crucial, since the gasparilla parade route is located so close to the water, and all of that mess and debris can harm marine life. Some helpers came out on their own, like matt carnele, who brought along some of his canine companions to do the dirty work. This is like christmas morning, looking for the old food. Their favorites are buns. Keep them away from the chicken bones. Definitely corn dogs are big time favorites. Melted popsicles, fritos, all of that stuff. Reporter bill pettyjohn collects beads and donates them to be passed out at the fourth of july parade in lutz. After going through a seven month, 740,000 renovation, the rock port golf course is ready to open. The grand reopening taking place tuesday morning. We flew over the course on dana shore drive. These renovations include new greens, tee boxes and fairways. The mayor will be one of the speakers at the ceremony. The reopening of that course. The Road Warrior Foundation held its annual hops for heroes beer cart this afternoon. 20 breweries participated in the event, which featured a home brew competition, silent auction, and food truck rally. Hops for heroes benefits veterans of the Road Warrior Foundation and organization that helps those injured while they are serving. We do things on the water with seadoos, on land with sidebysides and atvs. We call it adventure therapy. Its a good way for our veterans to help find themselves, forget about their troubles, and help bring themselves up into a better place. And anders, as you saw, was injured while serving in the air force. He started the Road Warrior Foundation three years ago, with a fellow air force pilot.
