But as you can see, a lot has changed over the past four years. This is the entrance way to camp xray. It looks very different. You can see the barbed wire, the overgrowth. This is what some describe as the dog run. At one time, 300 detainees were kept here. Reporter most of the detainees were captured in afghanistan or pakistan. U. S. Forces caught only 5 . The majority of men flown in were picked up by antitaliban. Some of the captured may have been innocent. Many in the wrong place at the wrong time. You walk through here, you can see the individual cells. Reporter the eight by eight foot chain link cages prompted critics in the u. S. And around the world to question living it is an affront to the principles of democracy. Reporter detainees later claimed interrogators tortured them and forced them to talk. Not true according to our military tour guide. No forced interrogations took place here. No forced interrogation. And for only four months this took place. And if a detainee didnt want to speak, they didnt have to. Reporter but they were operating under the interpretation that enemy combatants were not entitled to the geneva convention. That thinking didnt change until the Supreme Court changed it in june of this year. So how did they treat detainees in the early going . We are told they provided valuable information that saved american lives. Our guide tells us when they wanted to talk, they were simply escorted to these sweltering sheds for questioning. The person asking the warnings would stay here. The detainee would be shackled with two guards seated to his right. One on that seat. Another one here. And just behind this door and this wall, you have more guards waiting here to come crashing through the door to assist the questioner if he needed help or if the other guards needed help restraining the detainee. Reporter by may of 2002, military guards began moving detainees to the newly constructed Detention Centers in camp delta. Two of them, airconditioned jailhouses modeled after maximum Security Prisons in the u. S. The overgrown cages of camp xray are now history. Why are these facilities not torn down . Torn down.
