Welcome back to first look live on the red carpet of the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards. We are live from the Beverly Hilton hotel and the red carpet is really getting crowded now as the stars continue to arrive. I have one of the stars with me right here, mark rylan, there only four double nominees here tonight, and you, my friend, are one of them nominated for bridge of spies. How does that feel . It feels lovely to be celebrated, doesnt it . Yes. Your first Golden Globes . Its my first awards thing on the west coast, yeah. So what do you think of all of this . Its a little bit crazy, dont you think . Yeah, yeah, but, you know, its a way of encouraging people to go and see movies, and thats a good thing. In bridge of spies, we were talking about how you dont have a whole lot to say, but sometimes thats the best acting. And thats the hardest acting, too. I think its easier to get away with it when you havent a story like my character was and youre mysterious, youve got a lot going for you. Think of how Clint Eastwood made his career. Yeah. And you have a different accent in that film, too. Are you a fan of the accents . Are you good at all accents . My wife is very good. Since i married her 25 years ago, shes helped me a lot. Oh. Yeah, he was a spy. So he had he actually had a natural scottish accent. He didnt have a russian accent. You were excellent in both things. They recognize my work for a second year. That is an extreme honor. I feel so blessed to be here. I brought my dad who is my best friend, hes my homie. And im so glad he gets to experience this with me. The nervousness about, like, the winner nod is gone because, you know. I want somebody else to feel that experience, too, you know . Yeah. Lets start with regina king. So she was in this really beautiful gold dress that i thought was stunning. And if you notice, that is a cape attached to her dress. One of the trends tonight to look for is to expect the unexpected. We saw cape details, and i think were going to start seeing them here in the red carpet. Good luck tonight, regina. I know youre nominated for american crime. Double nominee because alicia vycander is nominated. Shes an ambassador for louis vuitton. I thought she would wear louis on the carpet, and i was right. How amazing does she look in this dress. White is always a goto color on the red carpet. And the reason is that it pops. It doesnt matter what your skin tone is. This color works on the red carpet, and this girl gets fashion. This is a fashion moment. Im telling you, she will be on every best dressed list tomorrow. And she is making fashion work for her. Now, speaking of the woman in a gorgeous white gown, sara, i believe you have the beautiful laverne cox with you . I have the beautiful, the stunning, the gorgeous, the talented laverne cox who is also in white. Off white . White . Its white. As far as i know, its white. Its elizabeth kennedy. Im so happy to be wearing this dress. This jewelry is to die for. Is this two pieces . Christina, my stylist, had the idea to sort of have a story here. Its called a story. A jewelry story. Yes, a jewelry story. I love it. This is my first Golden Globes. I was going to say, this is your first globes. So what douk you think of all this craziness . Its insane. Weve been to the emmys and the vmas. I think because you have film actors who bring a different kind of gravitas. Those tv actors, its amazing. Is there anyone youre really excited to see tonight . I havent even thought about it. Leo dicaprio whos nominated. Did you see the revenant . I have not seen it yet. I have a screener at home. Ive been so busy. Its amazing. You have to commit to it. Its amazing. Yeah. I have to be ready because its very gory, allegedly, apparently. Yes, but its worth it to watch the gore. How many people are on your glam squad . Because putting this whole thing together is, like, whoever did it is amazing. My stylist, christina, is amazing. Shes constantly communicating with designers because im not sample size to get things custom made. So everything i wear almost always is custom made. Perfect for you. Steven hair and smith makeup. You look fantastic and congrats because the show is nominated so goo have a fantastic first time at the globes. And shoutout to ouzo aduba. And a movie that i happen to be in. Were hearing from the spouses that are being cheated on. How do you like that . Its really fun. I had a great time this year. I mean, i sort of worked less but did more. So it was really satisfying. And i just really took care of me. The writers wrote some great, challenging stuff and i had a blast. When i first heard about this show, okay, its a show about an affair. How far can you go with that . But the writing and acting is amazing. Yeah. Its not just about the affair. It is about the affair, of course, but its the fallout of that affair of everybody involved and that sort of destruction it can wreak and is that worth it . So theres places to go with this. Do you like these parties . Well, ive only been nominated for one other one. So right now im really great with them. It feels really nice. Im very happy. And proud. Have you written your speech . The funny thing, it wasnt new, but hulu has seinfeld. Ive been watching it religiously. Its one of my favorite shows. Its such a nice thing to do after work to laugh a little bit. Especially after i killed a bunch of people at work that day. So yeah, im obsessed with seinfeld. Yeah. So what do you think about this whole experience of the Golden Globes . Is this your first . It is. We get to see everybody, and you get really close with a lot of strangers and get a little touchy feely and cuddly because its so tight down there. Its amazing. And whats beautiful about this dress is its not just sequins, its beaded, and it moves as she walks. She is a vision in gold tonight. By far one of the most beautiful women i have seen on this red carpet tonight. Honestly, i cannot tell you, these stars are bringing their a game to the Golden Globes this evening. Sara . Yes, i bet youre feeling it right now. Yeah, no, its good. Helpful because theres so much information out there. But yeah, the pressures there. But pressures good, you know, keeps one on ones toes. You know, its nice to reflect on people that changed the world that we live in. Yeah. I feel like you play a really good person with a temper. Ive seen this in other roles that youve done. Is this reflective of who you are as a human being . That i have a good temper . You know, i think Little Things tend to annoy me like tying a shoelace or something. But generally, no, im pretty, you know, i think upbeat and light. I try to be, anyway. I want to know if theres a speech in one of these pockets. Do you plan ahead or do you wing it . I do now. Im not very good at watching myself. But, i mean, its such a beautiful kind of story and its written, like, poetic, scary, its erotic. I mean, john logan, the show runner, is a genius. Well, you probably pulled in a lot of people with that description. You also worked with tim burton. Yes, i just finished a film with him, and she looks after a dark mary poppins. Yes, its very cool. If you can get your ya down, youre good. Tighten your os. Just try not to sound too irish. That is hard. I love you in this role because youre so goodnatured, and youre a really nice guy, but youre getting it done. Hes not messing around. Hes in it to win it. It was great. It was actually great playing somebody with such strength and soul. So do you plan for the speech, or do you wing it . You know, the opportunity comes so rare. I told him he had to because when he gets nervous, he rambles a little. And i said, no time for rambling. So youve got to write something down. I did write something down. Well see if i use it. I watched so many of these episodes all in a big chunk. Ive become a binge watcher. Right. Are you a binge watcher . I am, yeah. We do not have a routine of watching tv. When we can.
